Aomori Airport to Aomori and Shin-Aomori

If you are going to hotels near Aomori Station or WA RASSE, take the bus to Aomori Station from bus stop 2 at the airport. It takes approximately 35 minutes and costs 980 yen one way for an adult. The Shinkansen departs from Shin-Aomori Station. The airport bus does not stop at Shin-Aomori Station, so you will need to transfer to a train at Aomori Station or take a taxi from the airport.

Should I go to my accommodation or transfer to the Shinkansen?

Use Aomori Station · 青森駅 for central hotels and waterfront attractions. Shinkansen services use Shin-Aomori Station · 新青森駅, a separate station. Check your hotel address and Shinkansen departure station before choosing your route.

Take the bus to Aomori Station from the arrival lobby

After immigration, baggage collection and customs, enter the first-floor arrivals lobby. Bus stops and the taxi rank are outside the first-floor entrance, including for domestic arrivals. Follow the bus signs and official floor map.
Prepare cash or a supported transport IC card. You pay on the bus when getting off; there is no need to buy a separate paper ticket at a counter. From 1 October 2026, the bus cannot change 5,000-yen or 10,000-yen notes, so prepare smaller notes or coins.
Outside the terminal, go to bus stop 2. Check that the JR Bus Tohoku destination is ‘青森駅 / Aomori Station’. The adjacent stop 1 serves Konan Bus services to Hirosaki.
If paying cash, take a numbered ticket when you board and keep it until you get off. Put the ticket and fare into the fare box when alighting. If using a transport IC card, tap it on the reader when boarding and again when alighting. The fare to Aomori Station is 980 yen for adults and 490 yen for elementary school students.
Get off at Aomori Station stop number 11. After taking your suitcase, go to the plaza on the east side of the station. Follow the hotel or waterfront directions below.

Seats on this route are unreserved. Contact JR Bus in advance to reserve carriage of skis, snowboards or a folding bicycle. Space for ordinary suitcases can also be limited when the bus is busy.

If you take the Shinkansen from Shin-Aomori Station

Take the bus bound for Aomori Station until the end and transfer to the JR Ou Main Line. At the station, check the train stopping at Shin-Aomori Station and its departure time and then buy a ticket. Please follow the instructions for each train for platform numbers. When you arrive at Shin-Aomori, follow the ‘新幹線のりかえ口’ sign to the Shinkansen transfer ticket gate.

Official airport information puts the train journey between the two stations at approximately 6 minutes. Combined with the 35 minutes for the bus, the on-board journey time is approximately 41 minutes, plus the time to get off the bus and enter the station and the time to wait for the next train. Do not assume a train will leave immediately: check the timetable when planning your Shinkansen connection.

If you want to reduce transfers, you can take an airport taxi directly to Shin-Aomori Station. The on-board journey time is about 30 minutes, and the current taxi association reference price is about 6,600 yen. Snow can delay taxis too, so allow a margin before your Shinkansen departure.

From Aomori Station to hotels and attractions

Accommodations on the east side of Aomori Station and around Shinmachi

When you get off the bus, check the address of your accommodation based on the square on the east side of the station. Shinmachi 1-chome · 新町一丁目 extends from the east side of the station into the city centre.

The walking distance is different between hotels in front of the station and hotels inside Shinmachi. Enter your hotel name as the destination to check the final route, and compare how to take a taxi from the airport to your accommodation if you have a large suitcase or don't feel comfortable with the snow.

The bus also stops at Shinmachi 1-chome, Kencho-dori, and Shinmachi 2-chome, but you must check the addresses to determine whether the stop is close to the hotel. Don’t get off at the ‘downtown’ stop without knowing the location first.

Walk towards the waterfront from the east-side station plaza to reach WA RASSE. The museum lists a walk of about 1 minute from Aomori Station. Travel time from bus stop 11 to the front of the station is separate, and may take longer due to snowy roads or waiting at traffic lights.

A-FACTORY · エーファクトリー

A-FACTORY is on the waterfront east of the station, close to WA RASSE. Its official access guide gives a walk of about 2 minutes from Aomori Station. From the plaza east of the station, head towards the coast and find the entrance on the facility map.

The two places are connected by a short walking section, but rather than dragging large luggage and exploring right away, it is worth considering leaving it at your accommodation and then returning.

If you are going by rental car, decide on a parking lot first. A-FACTORY's own parking lot is closed from December to March due to snowfall on the Bay Bridge. In winter, please use the partner car park information on the official page.

Taking a taxi to your hotel or Shin-Aomori Station

Go out from the arrival lobby on the 1st floor and go to the official taxi stand. There is no procedure to buy bus tickets at the ticket office.
Please show the driver your accommodation name/address or ‘新青森駅’. There should be a clear distinction between Aomori Station and Shin-Aomori Station.
Before boarding, check the vehicle size, luggage capacity, estimated total amount, and whether cash or credit card payment is possible. You should not assume that the card works in all vehicles.
For reserved vehicles, please go to the meeting location and driver contact information provided by the company. When making a reservation, the flight, arrival time, number of people, and number of suitcases are provided, and in case of delay, waiting, change, and cancellation conditions are also checked.

Please distinguish quoted reservations from metered rates. If you miss a reservation, you must contact the company first as the next ride or refund is not automatically provided.

The taxi association lists a 20% night surcharge for 22:00–05:00 and a 20% winter surcharge from 1 December to the end of February. Ask the operator how surcharges apply to your journey and confirm the total, including tolls and reservation fees.

Rental cars are picked up at the rental car terminal next to the airport.

The airport's official list includes Toyota, Nissan, Nippon Rent-a-Car, Times, and Orix. Make sure it is the Aomori Airport branch of the company you reserved, and then go to the rental car terminal. Times directs customers out of the domestic arrivals lobby and to the rental car terminal on the right, about a 1-minute walk away.

For other companies, please follow the pickup location and procedures on the reservation confirmation.

After completing the arrival procedures, go to the company you reserved. Please prepare a reservation confirmation, valid driving qualification document in Japan, and payment method required by the company.
Check the contract, insurance, vehicle condition, and winter equipment at the counter and then collect the vehicle. Payment instructions at the Times Airport Branch are by credit card.
Enter the exact address of your accommodation and parking lot entrance into the navigation and set off. According to the airport's official standard, driving to Aomori Station and Shin-Aomori Station is approximately 30 minutes each, and contract and handover times are separate.
In winter, check equipment conditions, including winter tires, and road regulations. If you are staying at hotels in the city and only sightseeing on foot, it is a good idea to compare rental car parking and return costs as well.

Look at the business’s seasonal information before the general business hours in the airport listing. For example, the Times provides regular hours from 08:00 to 20:00 and December to March from 08:00 to 19:00 (excluding the New Year holidays). If your flight is late and you think you will miss the pick-up time, please contact the reservation office and check the change/cancellation conditions.

Last airport bus and delayed arrivals

The last bus to Aomori Station is from the airport at 21:30 → Aomori Station at 22:05. JR bus timetables for September 1 - October 24, 2026 and October 25 - November 30, 2026 are all marked as daily operation. After December or when the timetable changes, do not use this time and check the travel date in the official timetable.

The operator informs you that bus departure may be delayed due to aircraft delay or baggage congestion, and that if the aircraft is delayed, you may not be able to connect to the bus. If your flight is late, it doesn't necessarily mean that the last bus will also wait.

After reaching the arrivals lobby, check the remaining bus departures. If bus services have ended, use the official first-floor taxi rank or contact your pre-booked taxi company.

When going to Shin-Aomori Station, you must check not only the last airport bus, but also the train and Shinkansen you will transfer to at Aomori Station. If you think you will miss the Shinkansen you have booked, please contact JR or the sales office for change conditions before departure. Save the walking route from the station to your accommodation in advance. In snowy and icy areas, walking time with a suitcase may increase. Use the official pick-up point late at night, and if walking to and from the entrance to your accommodation is burdensome, consider taking a taxi to your accommodation.

If you are going to Hirosaki · 弘前, take the Konan bus bound for Hirosaki Bus Terminal at platform number 1. Official airport information is about 55 minutes, 1,600 yen for adults, and the destination and fare are different from the No. 2 bus to Aomori Station. How do I get from Aomori Airport to Aomori Station?

Take JR Bus Tohoku towards Aomori Station from bus stop 2 outside the first-floor arrivals lobby. Get off at Aomori Station stop 11. The journey takes about 35 minutes and costs 980 yen one way for an adult, payable on board with cash or a supported transport IC card when getting off. Are Aomori Station and Shin-Aomori Station the same place?

No. Aomori Station serves the city centre, WA RASSE and A-FACTORY. Shinkansen services use the separate Shin-Aomori Station. The JR Ou Main Line connects the two stations.

Can I travel directly from the airport to Shin-Aomori Station?

The Aomori Station airport bus does not stop at Shin-Aomori Station. Transfer to the JR Ou Main Line at Aomori Station, or take a taxi directly from the airport. The bus journey takes about 35 minutes and the train journey about 6 minutes, plus transfer and waiting time. A direct taxi takes about 30 minutes.

Do I need to reserve a seat on the airport bus?

Seats on the Aomori Station route are unreserved. Pay on board with cash or a supported transport IC card. Skis, snowboards and folding bicycles require advance contact and a carriage reservation with JR Bus. If the luggage compartment is full, you may need to wait for a later bus.

What if a delayed flight makes me miss the last airport bus?

The last bus to Aomori Station leaves the airport at 21:30 daily in the timetables for 1 September–24 October and 25 October–30 November 2026. Do not assume it will wait for a delayed flight. If you miss it, use the official first-floor taxi rank or contact your pre-booked taxi company, and tell your hotel about your late arrival.

Can I take a large suitcase on the bus?

Luggage space is available, but capacity depends on the size and number of bags and how busy the bus is. Ask the driver before boarding with large bags.
