What are the differences in times and fares between direct buses and regular buses?

Times are based on after boarding the bus. Immigration inspection, baggage pickup, waiting for the bus, and walking after getting off must be arranged separately. The schedule may be delayed depending on road conditions and full capacity.

Even if you see number 14 on the airport's regular route list or old timetables, do not select it as your current service. No. 4 enters the city via Hirae · 平得, Ohama · 大浜, Shiraho · 白保. Don't confuse your destination with the route heading north from the airport.

How do I prepare payment and luggage?

Both companies list cash and contactless payment with supported credit cards. Transportation cards such as Suica and PASMO cannot be used. Kari Tour requires prepayment when boarding, and QR payment is not possible. Azuma Bus' cash fare box does not provide change, so prepare change in advance or use the currency exchange machine on the bus.

Regular route buses do not have a seat reservation system. The Kari Tour online ticket does not secure seats, and if the bus is full, you must wait for the next departure. If there are many large suitcases, your group may not fit on the same bus. From the international arrival hall to the Ishigaki Airport bus stop

Check the actual arrival terminal on your ticket, and for international flights, go to the arrival hall on the 1st floor after completing immigration, customs, and baggage pickup.
Outside the international terminal, go right and head toward the domestic terminal. The bus stop for the city is located on the domestic side, not right in front of the international arrivals hall.
Coming out of the central domestic entrance, buses are on the left and taxis are on the right. You don't have to cross to the regular parking lot to catch the bus.
Distinguish between Azuma Bus A·B and Kari Tour C. Azuma Bus also has routes in the opposite direction, so check not only the route number but also the destination of ‘石垣港離島ターミナル / バスターミナル’ (ferry terminal / bus terminal) before boarding.

If you are arriving on a domestic flight, after receiving your baggage on the 1st floor, go out through the central entrance and go to the bus area on the left. There is no need to go upstairs to the departure hall.

Where should I get off to get to my accommodation in the city and Euglena Mall?

City center/Misakicho accommodation

In Misakicho · 美崎町 and the port area, the hotel entrance may be different from the bus stop.

If you take Azuma Bus No. 4 to Bus Terminal, it is about a 4-minute walk or 280m to Ishigaki Public Market · 石垣市公設市場 in the mall. At the stop, select Okawa Public Market (大川208) as your destination and enter the mall. Get off at No. 4 ‘Museum-mae (博物館前)’ and it will take you to the market in about 4 minutes and 300m.

Kari Tour No. 55 does not stop in front of the mall. Get off at the remote island terminal and take the downtown walking route to the public market for about 9 minutes or 650m. After arriving at the port, go to the ticket counter and boarding area.

Ishigaki Port Remote Island Terminal · ユーグレナ石垣港離島ターミナル is located at 1 Misakicho. Not to be confused with the large cruise ship terminals.

Arrival hall → Domestic Terminal C → Kari Tourism No. 55 → Get off at the remote island terminal bus stop. You can also use Azuma Bus numbers 4 and 10 that stop at the port.
From the bus stop, go into the passenger terminal building and look for information at the counter of the shipping company you made a reservation at or for E-ticket information. Allow time after the bus ride for ferry ticketing and boarding.
Compare the reservation number, boarding route, and port of arrival, and check whether the ticket requires counter ticketing or a ticket for direct boarding using QR.
Go to the pier/boarding area indicated on the day and follow the staff’s boarding instructions. Do not apply a fixed dock number to all ships.

Airport Areas A and B → Azuma Bus No. 10 → ‘ANA Intercontinental’ stop → Go to the entrance of the building you reserved. It takes about 21 minutes to get to the stop, and additional time is required to get to your room within the spacious resort.

Departures from Airport No. 10 are at 8:45, 11:45, 13:45, 14:15, and 15:45, and this is not a route that continues to have evening hotel stops. Intermediate hotel rates vary by disembarkation section, so check the fare before boarding. Art Hotel's official information indicates that the bus stop is in front of the entrance. Fusaki Beach Resort on the west coast · Fusaki Beach Resort Hotel & Villas · フサキビーチリゾートホテル＆ヴィラズ is not a stopover number 10 like the above two hotels. Check the reservation and shuttle conditions of the hotel connected to the airport or compare taxis. To connect from Ishigaki Airport to Taketomi Island and Iriomote Island

Airport → bus or taxi → remote island terminal → ticketing/boarding → destination port. Bus and ferry bookings are separate; neither guarantees a connection from your arriving flight.

Taketomi Island · 竹富島

Check ferries from Ishigaki to Taketomi Port · 竹富港. After landing on the island, transportation to the village and accommodation is separate. If you have booked a village tour or cart ride, you must also check whether the meeting point is the port or the travel agency counter.

Iriomote Island · 西表島

Uehara Port · 上原港 and Ohara Port · 大原港 are different destinations. Check the pick-up port for your accommodation/tour. Even if the sailing to Uehara is canceled, it does not mean that you will automatically be able to use the ferry and land transfers to Ohara.

Anei Tours advises arriving at its counter about 30 minutes before sailing and completing ticket purchase at least 15 minutes before departure, even with a reservation. Yaeyama Scenic Ferry advises you to purchase tickets 30 minutes in advance and go to the pier 15 minutes before boarding begins.

There are separate procedures for online E-tickets or tours, so information on the purchased ticket takes priority. Do not apply this number as a common cutoff for all shipping lines and all routes.

If you miss the boat, check with the shipping company about seats on the next sailing and change/refund conditions, and inform your accommodation/tour of the delay in arrival and change of pick-up. If the last sailing of the day has departed, you will need to make separate arrangements for accommodation at Ishigaki Island and travel the next day. Island accommodation reservations will not be automatically canceled or changed to Ishigaki accommodation.

Currently, there is no separate distinction between weekdays and weekends for these three routes in the bulletin board. Please check again for notices of temporary suspension or change in operation dates. Even if the landing time is before the last bus departure, boarding is not guaranteed because baggage, immigration, and stop transfers must be completed.

When the bus is over, go to the official taxi stand.

As you exit the central entrance on the 1st floor of the domestic terminal, use the official taxi area on the right. The official airport fare table provides a reference value of approximately 25 minutes and 3,500 yen to the remote island terminal.

It is not a fixed fee and varies depending on the actual meter rate, driving route, congestion, surcharge, and reserved vehicle conditions. The Taxi Association's maximum fare list for regular vehicles in isolated islands is 500 yen for the first 1.136 km, 100 yen for every 463 m thereafter, and 100 yen for every 2 minutes and 50 seconds below 10 km/h. If you arrive late or have a lot of luggage, check the distance to walk from the stop to your accommodation and check-in deadlines. Save the accommodation address and reservation number on your phone, and compare the ride to the accommodation instead of a long walk.

Is it possible to receive a rental car immediately upon arrival at the airport?

It varies from company to company. Official airport information distinguishes between a rental car pickup area in the general parking lot and a hotel pickup area next to the parking lot. Move to the right outside the international terminal entrance, in front of the domestic terminal central entrance, and use the crosswalk and boarding area designated by the reservation company.

Take the free shuttle from the airport to Ishigakijima Rent-a-Car Station · 石垣島レンタカーステーション and pick up the car at the OTS counter on the right end of the building. Don't expect to receive your vehicle straight from the terminal. The shuttle interval for OTS information is 15 to 20 minutes, and business office hours are 08:00 to 19:00.

Do not apply this to other companies.

If there is a delay, please contact the OTS sales office at 0980-84-4323 with your flight number and expected arrival time and check for shuttle, after-closing pickup, reservation maintenance, and next-day pickup. You must check the product information with the company you made the reservation for regarding driving qualifications that can be used in Japan, original documents, insurance, exemption, non-operation charges, and return conditions.

Even if a flight arrives, it cannot be assumed that buses or ships will operate normally. Check your flight number with the airline, facility and access notices with the airport, service notices with bus operators, and each ferry route’s status with its operator. Don't judge whether a particular ship will be canceled based on the weather forecast alone.

Where can I catch a bus from the international arrival hall to the city?

After immigration, baggage collection and customs, leave first-floor international arrivals and head right towards the domestic terminal. The bus stops are left of the domestic main entrance. Follow the signs for Azuma Bus bays A/B or Kari Tours bay C, and check the city or ferry-terminal destination.

What is the difference between a bus that goes directly to the port and a regular bus?

Kari Tours bus 55 runs directly between the airport and ferry terminal in about 30 minutes. Azuma bus 4 serves city stops; bus 10 serves ANA InterContinental and Art Hotel. Bus 4 departures from 19:30 onwards skip the ferry-terminal stop. Azuma’s direct bus 14 has been suspended since 1 October 2026.

Where should I get off to get to Euglena Mall?

From the city bus terminal, the public market in Euglena Mall is about 280 m or 4 minutes away on foot. Azuma bus 4’s Museum-mae stop is about 300 m or 4 minutes away. From bus 55’s ferry-terminal stop, allow about 650 m or 9 minutes. These official walking estimates lead to the market; your shop or hotel entrance may be elsewhere.

Can I take a boat to Taketomi Island right after getting off the plane?

Allow immigration, baggage collection, the bus wait and ride, ferry ticketing and the walk to the boarding point. A flight and ferry are separate bookings, with no guaranteed connection based on landing time. Check the ferry operator’s same-day timetable and your ticket’s procedures.

Which port should I go to when I go to Iriomote Island?

Ferries leave Ishigaki Port for separate Uehara and Ohara ports on Iriomote. Use the port specified by your hotel or tour. If Uehara sailings are cancelled, ask the ferry operator and your booking provider whether an alternative port and land transfer are available.

How do I get to downtown if I arrive late at night?

The last airport departure of Kari Tours bus 55 is 19:05. Azuma bus 4’s last departure for the city bus terminal is 21:45, and skips the ferry-terminal stop. Reach the bus stop before departure; boarding can be refused when full. After buses finish, compare the official taxi stand right of the domestic main entrance with a confirmed hotel pickup.

What do I do if I miss my booked boat or rental car due to a flight delay?

A flight change does not automatically change ferry, rental-car or hotel bookings. Ask the ferry operator about available sailings and change/refund conditions, and your hotel or tour about meeting times and alternative ports. Give the rental office your flight number and revised arrival time; pickup after closing is not guaranteed. If the last ferry has left, arrange a night on Ishigaki and travel the next day.
