Matsuyama Airport to the city and Dogo Onsen

Choose the stop closest to your hotel: JR Matsuyama Station, Matsuyama City Station, Okaido or Dogo Onsen. The limousine bus serves the main stops quickly; local buses cost less. For Dogo Onsen, choose a bus that continues there rather than one that terminates at Matsuyama City Station.

Order of boarding the bus at the arrival hall on the 1st floor

  1. After completing immigration and baggage pickup, go to the bus stop outside the arrival hall on the 1st floor. There are no rail or streetcars available directly from the airport.
  2. For regular route buses, go to number 3, and for limousines, go to numbers 4 and 5. Numbers 6 and 7 are where the limousine drops you off when you arrive at the airport, so don't confuse them with the line heading downtown.
  3. Read the destination display before boarding. For Dogo Onsen, look for 道後温泉駅前; a bus displaying 松山市駅 ends at Matsuyama City Station. Check the distance from that stop to your hotel.
  4. Board the limousine through the front door and pay when getting off. On a local bus, cash passengers take a numbered ticket when boarding and put it in the fare box with the fare when leaving. Tap your transport IC card when boarding and leaving a bus; on trams, tap when leaving.
  5. You must load and unload luggage into the limousine trunk yourself. Take power banks and valuables into the car, and check the number of luggage again before getting off.

Official information supports nationwide reciprocal transport IC card and Bikan app payment, and provides a 20 yen discount on adult fares compared to cash. Credit card touch payments should not be considered the same thing.

Prepare change for cash, and check the instructions for 1,000 yen notes when exchanging banknotes. When bringing a large suitcase onto a regular bus or tram, please inquire with the operator about the size and quantity requirements and manage it so that it does not block the aisle.

Limousines do not take reservations, so if they are full, you may have to wait for the next bus. For Iyotetsu Airport transportation inquiries, call 089-972-2511. Information hours are 10:00 - 12:00 and 13:00 - 16:00 JST. 089-972-2511

This is a conceptual diagram of the movement path. The blue dotted line represents the airport bus, the purple line represents the streetcar transfer, and the brown line represents the walking connection. It is a direction of travel between points and is not an actual road, rail, or pedestrian alignment.

The bus travel direction is Airport → JR Station → Matsuyama City Station → Okaido → Dogo Onsen, and depending on the destination, it tends to end somewhere in the middle.

JR Matsuyama Station: If you are changing trains or staying near the station

JR Matsuyama Station · 松山駅

  1. From the airport, take a limousine via JR Station from numbers 4 or 5, or a regular bus from number 3. Cash fares are 1,000 yen and 530 yen respectively.
  2. Get off at JR Matsuyama Station and follow the new station information signs on site. Please check the on-site information for the drop-off point number and do not assume it is the same as the airport pick-up point number.
  3. The station’s ticket gates are on the first floor and train platforms on the third. For JR connections, check the destination and platform display, then use the lift if needed. For your hotel, stay outside the ticket gates and check whether its address is east or west of the station.

Work around the station is continuing, and maps from before the 2024 station relocation may show a different route. Matsuyama City opened a temporary passage on 31 August 2026 between the new station’s north entrance and the underpass leading to the tram stop. Follow that passage and current signs for a tram to Dogo.

The city announces that it has secured a passageway width of at least 2m and installed night lights and Braille blocks. For traffic locations during construction, please give priority to the latest notice below.

Matsuyama City Station: This is a different station from JR Station.

Matsuyama City Station · 松山市駅

  1. From the airport, select the bus via Matsuyama City Station. Cash for limousine is 1,000 yen, regular bus is 640 yen.
  2. Limousines drop off at drop-off point C2. Separate this from the B3 boarding point you use to return to the airport. When getting off a regular bus, follow the on-site instructions for your convenience.
  3. Check the address and walk to hotels near the station. If you transfer to the Iyotetsu suburban train or take streetcar number 3 to Dogo Onsen, follow the signs for each platform.

The tram from the city station to Dogo Onsen takes about 20 minutes and costs 250 yen in cash. If you want to take a limousine to Dogo, you must select the one bound for Dogo at the airport rather than taking a new one at the city station.

Okaido Accommodation: Stop names vary depending on the bus

Okaido · 大街道
Ichibancho · 一番町

Compare getting off at Okaido for limousines and Ichibancho for regular route buses. The names are different and the stop locations are not the same. The limousine costs 1,200 yen in cash, approximately 29 minutes, and the regular bus costs 720 yen, approximately 35 to 40 minutes. The remaining walk will vary depending on which end of the shopping district your accommodation is at.

  1. Choose a limousine serving Okaido or a local bus serving Ichibancho. Buses terminating at Matsuyama City Station do not reach these stops.
  2. After getting off, check the walking route from the drop-off point to your destination using your accommodation address. The limousine's drop-off point for city arrivals and the pick-up point for the airport on the Mitsukoshi side are separate.
  3. For Matsuyama Castle, walk to the lower ropeway station described below. Searching only for the castle can direct you to the hilltop grounds.

  1. Take the limousine from Airport No. 4 or 5 to Dogo Onsen Station. Cash 1,200 yen, ride approximately 40 minutes. For regular buses, take number 3 to Dogo, cost 830 yen in cash, and take about 49 to 55 minutes.
  2. Get off at the stop in front of Dogo Onsen Station and check the location of the station and Hojoen. The bus drop-off point and tram station are separate. If you transfer to the tram, get off at Dogo Onsen Station.
  3. The main building is located along the Dogo Haikara-dori shopping street. Individual hotels may have different directions from the main building and some are located on hills, so please use the accommodation address for directions.

Get to Matsuyama Castle from the ropeway boarding point at the bottom of the mountain.

Matsuyama Castle · 松山城
Shinonomeguchi Station · 東雲口駅

Walk about five minutes from Okaido along Ropeway Street to Shinonomeguchi Station. Buy a ticket on the first floor and board on the third. The ropeway ride takes about three minutes; from the upper station at Chojaganaru, allow another ten minutes on foot to the castle tower.

If you depart from JR Station, Matsuyama City Station, or Dogo Onsen, take the tram to Okaido and then compare the walking route. Asking first whether large luggage can be stored at your accommodation will reduce the burden of moving it. Please check the operating hours of the ropeway, lift, and castle tower separately for the season and operation status.

Below are the directions from the airport to the city. Do not be confused with the timetable in the opposite direction from the station/Dogo Onsen to the airport.

  • Limousine: Airport 21:30 → JR Station 21:45 → Matsuyama City Station 21:54 → Okaido 21:59 → In front of Dogo Onsen Station 22:10. This is the last scheduled bus in the table for October 1-24, 2026, and there is no day limit indicated in that row.
  • Regular bus weekdays: Airport 20:10 → JR Station 20:29 → Matsuyama City Station 20:39 → Ichibancho 20:43 → Dogo Onsen Station 20:54.
  • Regular buses on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays: The last bus bound for JR Station and Matsuyama City Station departs at 20:20 and arrives at 20:39 and 20:47, respectively. This part ends at the city station. The last route to Ichibancho and Dogo Onsen departs at 19:40 and arrives at Ichibancho and Dogo at 20:14 and 20:26. The Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday schedule also applies from December 29th to January 3rd.
  • The last route 3 tram to Dogo leaves Matsuyama City Station at 22:01 and arrives at 22:21. The last route 5 tram leaves JR Matsuyama Station at 22:00 and arrives at 22:25. The official published timetable checked for this guide was revised on 1 November 2023. Allow time to walk from the bus stop to the tram stop and wait; a connection is not guaranteed.

Limousines can wait for your arrival when your flight is delayed, but if you are significantly late, they can direct you to the next bus. Not all international arriving passengers or the last bus will necessarily be waiting.

If you are late, first ask about the remaining destination at the bus stop and inform your accommodation of your expected arrival time and whether late check-in is possible. After October 25th you will need to check again with the new limousine timetable.

If your bus is over or you miss your transfer to Dogo

After exiting the arrival hall on the first floor of the airport, check the official taxi stand on the right side of the front entrance. Show the Japanese address rather than the name of the accommodation and ask about the estimated total amount, night surcharge, additional costs, and luggage availability.

When paying by card or smartphone, check the corresponding vehicle display and do not assume that on-site dispatch is always possible. The reserved vehicle is compared to the actual company, pickup location, and vehicle number.

The taxi association reservation contact information in the official airport information is 0120-71-2441 (weekdays 8:30~17:00, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays). This does not mean that this contact will take late night reservations. Use accommodation transfer service only when the actual operation and reservation conditions of the accommodation in question have been confirmed. 0120-71-2441

Matsuyama Airport Transportation, Frequently asked questions

How do I get from Matsuyama Airport to the city?

Take the Iyotetsu Limousine at numbers 4 or 5 outside the arrival hall on the first floor of the airport, or take a regular bus at number 3. First, check the drop-off point and bus destination closest to your accommodation among JR Station, Matsuyama City Station, Okaido, or Dogo Onsen. There is no rail station at the airport.

Are JR Matsuyama Station and Matsuyama City Station the same place?

No. JR Matsuyama Station serves JR trains. Matsuyama City Station serves Iyotetsu suburban trains and a separate hotel district. At the rebuilt JR station, gates are on floor 1 and platforms on floor 3. For trams, check the current temporary passage linking the north entrance with the tram-stop underpass.

Where should I get off at Okaido accommodation?

For limousines, get off at Okaido (大街道), and for regular route buses, get off at Ichibancho (一番町). The names and locations are different, so please check the remaining walk to the accommodation address. The limousine's pick-up point for the airport and drop-off point for arrival in the city are also separate.

Can I go directly from the airport to Dogo Onsen?

There are limousines and regular buses that stop in front of Dogo Onsen Station. Some routes end at Matsuyama City Station, so check the destination. Limousine rides take about 40 minutes, and regular bus rides take about 49 to 55 minutes. Waiting, entry, and walking times are separate.

What is the difference between a limousine and a regular route bus?

The limousine serves key stops and has a lower luggage compartment; passengers load and retrieve their own bags. Regular buses serve all stops and you manage luggage on board. Cash adult fares, limousine/regular bus, are JR Matsuyama 1,000/530 yen, Matsuyama City 1,000/640 yen, Okaido/Ichibancho 1,200/720 yen and Dogo Onsen Station 1,200/830 yen. Ask the operator about large luggage.

Do I need to make a reservation for the airport bus?

Iyotetsu Limousine does not take reservations, and if all seats are full, you can use the next service. You can also board regular route buses at the bus stop. For separately reserved vehicles, check the pick-up and cancellation conditions of the company you reserved.

How do I pay?

On the limousine, board at the front and pay when getting off. Cash users on regular buses take a numbered ticket when boarding and put it with the fare into the box on exit. The official information gives a 20 yen reduction from cash fares for supported nationwide transport IC or the Mican app. Follow the reader instructions for boarding and exit; bank-card contactless payment is a separate system.

Can I use it with a large suitcase?

Load and collect your own luggage from the limousine compartment. Carry power banks and valuables in the cabin. On regular buses and trams, keep aisles clear and ask Iyotetsu about large-bag sizes and quantities.

How do I get from the Dogo Onsen bus stop to the main building?

Get off in front of Dogo Onsen Station, check the location of the station and Hojoen, and walk along Dogo Haikara-dori shopping street to the main building. The bus stop, tram station, and main building are not at the same point, and if your accommodation is on a hill, the route to the main building and the route to the accommodation will be different.

How do I get to the Matsuyama Castle ropeway platform?

If you walk about 5 minutes from Okaido toward the ropeway street, you can reach Shinonomeguchi Station at the bottom of the mountain. Buy a ticket on the first floor and go up to the boarding area on the third floor. It takes about 10 more minutes to walk from Chojaganaru on the mountain to the castle tower.

What should I do if my flight is late and I miss the last airport bus?

The 1–24 October 2026 limousine timetable lists 21:30 as the final airport departure for all four destinations. Departures may be adjusted for flights, but significant delays can mean being directed to another bus. Boarding the last bus is not guaranteed. Ask staff about remaining departures; otherwise compare an official taxi or confirmed pickup.
