Arrival at KMI → Miyazaki Station / City Hotel / Aoshima

Miyazaki Airport to Miyazaki and Aoshima

For a hotel near Miyazaki Station, take a JR train; for Tachibanadori, use a bus from stop 1. For Aoshima, take a local bus from stop 2 or change JR trains at Tayoshi—you do not need to travel into the city first. If you arrive late, check the last service to your destination and the hotel’s check-in deadline.

This guide starts at Miyazaki Bougainvillea Airport · 宮崎ブーゲンビリア空港 (KMI). City-centre hotels and the beaches to the south lie in different directions.

Check the official data: · Time is Japan time (UTC+9), price is in yen, one way for adults.

From Miyazaki Airport arrival hall to JR, bus, and taxi stop

  1. Please move based on the actual arrival flight listed on your ticket. For international flights, after completing immigration, customs, and baggage pickup, you will exit to the arrival lobby on the first floor of the same terminal. For domestic flights, please proceed from the 1st floor after receiving your baggage.
  2. JR: on the first floor, follow JR 乗り場 towards the west side of the building. The official floor plan places JR near the domestic check-in counters and buses near the international counters. Leave through the station-side exit, buy a ticket or use an accepted IC card, and follow the gates to the platform. The bus queue outside the front of the terminal and the second-floor flight departures area are separate.
  3. Bus: Follow the ‘バス乗り場’ sign on the 1st floor to the outside bus area near the international flight counter. Number ① is for Miyako City, Tachibanadori, and Miyazaki Station, and number ② is for Nichinan/Obi via Aoshima. Please distinguish between express bus number ③ or number ④ bound for Seagaia.
  4. Taxi: Exit to ‘タクシー乗り場’ in front of the terminal on the 1st floor. The taxi stand is in a separate area from the JR station or bus number ②.

If your arrival location is different or you have large luggage or a wheelchair, check the general information on the 1st floor for directions to the JR station and boarding area.

Bus payment and large suitcase

Regular route buses do not have a seat reservation system. For cash, take a numbered ticket when you board and pay the fare when you get off. Place your transport IC card on the terminal when boarding and getting off. There is no change, and 5,000 yen, 10,000 yen bills and new 500 yen coins cannot be used in the in-car currency exchange machine, so it is convenient to prepare small bills or coins or a recharged card.

Free baggage standards are within 10kg in weight, 0.027㎥ in volume, and 1m in length. Exceeding this may result in a baggage fee equivalent to the child fare, and baggage exceeding 30kg, 0.25㎥, or 2m cannot be brought in. If it is crowded, even luggage within the specified size may be rejected. If there are too many suitcases blocking the bus aisle, check the operator's baggage regulations and compare taxi models. How to ride Miyazaki Airport JR and exceptions to limited express surcharges

To get to Miyazaki Station, purchase a regular ticket from the airport station to Miyazaki or prepare a usable transport IC card, and then take a regular train bound for Miyazaki. Pass through Minami Miyazaki and get off at Miyazaki Station, and check the east and west exits where your accommodation is located.

The regular ticket in the official fare revision data is 400 yen and the airport line additional fare is already included. The 130 yen will not be added again.

Non-reserved seats on limited express ordinary cars used only within the Miyazaki - Tayoshi/Miyazaki Airport section can be ridden with a regular ticket. Reserved seats, Green Car seats, and limited express trains that continue beyond Miyazaki cannot be viewed under the same conditions. Check the non-reserved seat markings on the train and do not sit in the reserved seat arbitrarily. Aoshima is outside this special section, and the Sightseeing Limited Express Umisachiyamasachi also requires a separate reserved seat ticket.

JR transport IC card and luggage

Starting January 17, 2026, the SUGOCA Miyazaki area has been expanded to include Aoshima Station. You can use it to travel within the areas of Miyazaki, Airport, Tayoshi, and Aoshima. When continuing south of Aoshima or to other IC areas, check the ticket conditions rather than assuming that you can use the same card for the entire route.

JR’s carry-on baggage standards are a maximum of 2 pieces, with a total of three sides of less than 250cm, length of 2m, and 30kg. You must move your luggage yourself and clear the aisles and doors. This standard should not be applied to regular buses as well.

Hotels in Miyazaki city: Divide the station front and Tachibanadori.

Accommodation in front of Miyazaki Station

The order is Arrival Hall → Airport Station → Miyazaki Station → Hotel Entrance. JR on-board journey time is about 10 to 15 minutes, but you need to add time to wait for the next train. If you first check whether your accommodation in front of the station is on the east or west side, you can avoid having to cross the station again with large luggage.

If you are taking a bus, take number ① bound for Miyazaki Station. Getting off at the station is different from arriving at the hotel lobby.

Accommodation in the center of Tachibanadori

For a hotel on Tachibanadori · 橘通り, take bus 1 and get off at the nearest stop—1-, 2- or 3-chome. The fare to 2- and 3-chome is 500 yen and the ride takes about 17–24 minutes, depending on the service. The faster Airport Liner serves the airport, Miyako City, Tachibanadori 1-, 2- and 3-chome, and Miyazaki Station; local buses make more intermediate stops. Check your hotel’s address before choosing a stop.

If you go to Miyazaki Station by JR first, you must add walking, city bus, or taxi to the hotel in the city. If you have a lot of luggage or it is raining, it is a good idea to check if you can use the airport bus at a stop close to your accommodation. The directions below are examples of the bus stop area. Please change the destination to your actual accommodation address to check.

Transfer between Miyako City and Minami-Miyazaki Station

Miyako City is a bus terminal, and Minami Miyazaki Station is a JR station to the east. Get off the airport bus number ① and walk around the corner of the south building to the east JR station. Check the official guide map for JR station directions and crosswalks. This is not a facility that automatically transfers to the same stop name. JR station direction on the official guide map

To go directly from Miyazaki Airport to Aoshima, the beach, and the shrine

Aoshima · 青島 is south of the airport. If you don't plan on stopping downtown, look at options going directly south from the airport rather than going up to Miyazaki Station and back.

Regular bus No. ②: Airport → Get off at Aoshima

Arrival hall → Airport No. ② → Regular bus bound for ‘日南・飫肥’ → Aoshima stop → Accommodation, beach, shrine in this order. Adult one-way fare is 610 yen, the ride is approximately 24 minutes, and no prior seat reservations are required. The ANA Holiday Inn stop is in front of Aoshima, so if you are staying at this hotel, please check the drop-off point according to the hotel's official information.

In the revised table on October 1, 2026, airport departures are at 10:09, 11:39, 13:59, 18:06, and 19:19 every day, and at 15:49 on weekdays. The 15:49 bus does not run on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

The last Aoshima bus leaves the airport at 19:19 and reaches Aoshima at 19:43. Check both the destination and the stopping pattern; some services continue farther along the southern coast.

The timetable for the 700 yen summer-only shuttle that ran from July 1 to September 30 should not be applied to regular buses in October. Currently, the information is for regular buses to Nichinan.

JR regular trains: check Tayoshi transfer first

At Airport Station, check the destination as Aoshima, purchase a regular ticket or check the conditions for using the IC, and then move in the following order: Airport Station → Tayoshi Station → Aoshima Station. The ride from the airport to Tayoshi takes about 2 minutes, and from Tayoshi to Aoshima takes about 19 to 23 minutes, but transfer waiting time is separate.

Regular trains do not run directly from the airport to Aoshima.

At Tayoshi, leave the Miyazaki-bound train and change to a southbound train that stops at Aoshima, towards Aoshima, Aburatsu, Nango or Shibushi. Check the specific train’s stops and platform on the official timetable and station display.

Some connections allow a change at Minami-Miyazaki instead. That takes you back north, so the fare and total time can differ from the airport–Tayoshi–Aoshima route.

The sightseeing limited express Umisachi Yamasachi · 海幸山幸 is listed as airport departure 10:00 and Aoshima arrival 10:21. It does not run every day. All seats are reserved, so check its operating calendar and reserve a seat.

Check the travel date operation calendar, airport departure direction, and fee on the reservation screen. No non-reserved seating exceptions apply.

Aoshima Station/Bus Stop → Beach/Shrine Entrance

Aoshima Station and the Aoshima bus stop are separate places. From the station, follow shrine and beach signs east to the shrine approach. From the bus stop, use the pedestrian crossing to reach the same approach.

Walk to the mainland entrance of Yayoi Bridge, cross to the island and continue to Aoshima Shrine · 青島神社.

Tourist organizations provide information about the distance from JR Station to the shrine, which is about 800 meters, about a 10-minute walk. Don't confuse the map pin on the shrine's main shrine with the mainland bridge entrance. After crossing the bridge, there is a sandy section to the entrance of the shrine grounds, so suitcase and wheelchair transportation must be considered separately.

Vehicles are not allowed on the island. Visiting hours are from 6:00 to sunset, so don't plan on arriving late at night.

For beach hotels, do not go to the shrine, but go to the hotel entrance on the beach. ANA Holiday Inn Resort Miyazaki officially provides separate hotel stops or access to Kodomonokuni Station. Check the check-in, reservation and transfer conditions of your accommodation, and do not think that you have arrived at all hotels just by ‘arriving at Aoshima’.

Miyazaki Airport bus/JR last bus and late arrival alternative

The times below run from the airport towards the city. Bus times follow the 1 October 2026 revision; JR examples were checked for 5, 10, 11 and 12 October. If a Saturday is a public holiday, use the operator’s stated holiday conditions.

JR transfer to AoshimaDaily 21:55 Airport StationArrival at Tayoshi 21:57 → Departure at 22:42 → Aoshima 23:01. Waiting for transfer for 45 minutes There is.

Taking the airport 21:55 train does not mean you will arrive at Aoshima around 22:00. You also have to wait for Tayoshi and walk after getting off. If you arrive late or have a lot of luggage, compare taking a taxi directly to your accommodation instead of waiting for a long transfer, and prepare a night walking route and a way to contact your accommodation first.

Boarding the last bus cannot be guaranteed based on the aircraft landing time alone. After completing immigration and baggage pickup, check the actual arrival time at the boarding point and the day's operation information. If your flight is delayed, you will not be notified that a regular bus or JR will be waiting.

If public transportation is over, take a taxi in front of the airport

Please show your accommodation’s Japanese address and reservation screen at the official taxi stand in front of the terminal. The airport informs taxi staff that their hours are from 8:30 to 21:30, but this does not guarantee dispatch after that time. If you plan to arrive late, please contact airport information or the official taxi company in advance for available taxi times.

Miyako Taxi's February 2026 rate list is 600 yen for the first 1km for regular vehicles, and 100 yen for every 285m thereafter. Low speed and waiting time also affect the rate. A fixed total amount to the city and Aoshima was not provided. Check with the company about late-night conditions, reservation/call costs, whether toll roads are used, and which vehicle type and payment method is suitable for large luggage. The travel distances for city hotels and beach hotels are different, so the same estimates should not be applied.

Some hotel taxi-transfer services are restricted to guests and have limited vehicle availability. Check your hotel’s terms separately from ordinary airport pickup. If your flight is delayed, contact the hotel or operator about changing or cancelling the transfer.

A changed flight does not automatically change hotel, train or rental-car bookings. For a rental car, confirm the pickup point, branch shuttle and collection deadline, driving documents, insurance and delay-contact arrangements.

If you cannot use the JR ticket you purchased due to a flight delay

There is no change fee for regular tickets when changing to the same type once before use or within the validity period, and the fare difference is calculated. A 220 yen fee applies for refunds of unused regular tickets.

Changes to reserved seats must be requested before departure from the boarding station, and once the designated train departs, the reserved seat ticket becomes invalid and cannot be refunded. Discounted products and online reservations may be subject to separate seller and product conditions.

Do not confuse flight delays with the JR train's own cancellation/delay refund policy, and contact the station or reservation office before departure.

Changes/refunds/missing the designated train before JR official use ↗

If there is a typhoon or heavy rain, check each operation information separately.

The suspension of flights, JR trains, and buses cannot be determined based on weather alone. Check the actual flight number, JR operation information, and Miyazaki Transportation notices of the airline and airport. Beach and bridge access is subject to local controls and facility guidance.

Tickets and reservations

The following is the operator’s official usage/purchase guide and is not an affiliate link. Regular JR tickets and route buses are different from tourist express reserved seats, reserved pickup, and rental car products.

For general tickets, check your destination at the airport station and purchase them, and for buses, follow the cash and transport IC card boarding procedures above. For the tourist express, check the operation date, direction, seat designation, and change/cancellation conditions before making a reservation. Frequently asked questions about traveling to Miyazaki Airport and Aoshima

How do I get from Miyazaki Airport to Miyazaki Station?

From the arrival hall on the 1st floor, follow the JR signs to Airport Station and take the train bound for Miyazaki. It costs 400 yen one way for adults and takes about 10 to 15 minutes on the train. Take the bus from the airport number ① to Miyazaki Station. It costs 530 yen and takes about 25 to 30 minutes. The 21:20 bus to Sumiyoshi does not stop at Miyazaki Station.

Is it more convenient to get to hotels in Miyazaki city by train or bus?

If you are staying in front of Miyazaki Station, compare JR first. If you are staying at Tachibanadori 1, 2, or 3-chome, you can save yourself the trouble of going back from the station by taking bus number ① and getting off at the nearest stop. Adult one-way ticket to Tachibanadori 2 and 3-chome is 500 yen. It doesn't stop in front of all hotels, so make sure you check the walking route from your drop-off point to your accommodation entrance.

Can I go directly from Miyazaki Airport to Aoshima?

A Nichinan- or Obi-bound regular bus via Aoshima leaves stop 2: about 24 minutes and 610 yen per adult. Its last airport departure is 19:19 daily. For JR, change at Tayoshi for an Aoshima-bound local train. The July–September shuttle does not operate in October. Umisachi Yamasachi is a separate sightseeing limited express requiring an operating-date check and reserved seat.

Is there an additional fee required if I take the limited express train from Miyazaki Airport?

Between Miyazaki and Tayoshi/Miyazaki Airport only, an ordinary ticket covers non-reserved ordinary-class seats on limited-express trains. Reserved seats, Green Car seats and journeys beyond that section have separate charges and conditions. The sightseeing Umisachi Yamasachi towards Aoshima has all reserved seats and is excluded from this exception.

Are Miyako City and Minami-Miyazaki Station the same place?

No. Miyako City is a bus terminal and Minami-Miyazaki is a separate JR station. Follow 南宮崎駅 on the terminal map, walk around the south building towards the station to the east, and use the crossing. Add the walk, luggage handling and train wait.

What if I arrive late at night or miss the last train?

The last Miyazaki Station bus leaves at 19:46 on weekdays and 19:55 on weekends/holidays. The last airport train leaves at 21:55. A daily 21:20 Sumiyoshi bus serves Miyako City and Tachibanadori, but not Miyazaki Station. The last Aoshima bus is 19:19; the checked JR connection from the 21:55 airport train reaches Aoshima at 22:42. Allow arrivals and baggage time before relying on a connection. After services end, ask at the official taxi stand and contact your hotel or pickup operator about the delay.

Official basis and confirmation date

Data from airports, JR Kyushu, bus and taxi operators, and official tourism organizations were compared as of October 5, 2026. If the timetable changes, please select a date and check again. Fees, operating dates, and boarding area conditions are linked to the relevant basis in the paragraph above.
