  1. After completing immigration and baggage pickup, exit to the arrival lobby on the 1st floor. Check the bus vending machines and ‘バス’ signs. There is no railway station directly accessible from the airport.
  2. Choose your stop at the airport vending machine and buy a ticket, or prepare cash, an acceptable card, and the remaining balance. For vending machine payment methods, check the marking on the machine.
  3. Outside the terminal, go to number 2, ‘高松市内方面’ (Takamatsu city centre). Kotoden Bus · ことでんバス Airport limousine goes to the city. Check the timetable arrival column for ‘高松駅’ and ‘フェリーターミナル’ and take the bus to the required stop.
  4. Large suitcases must be loaded and unloaded directly into the lower trunk, which is opened by the driver. Take valuables and breakables with you on board, and don't forget your luggage when getting off.

Pay when getting off, touch your card both on and off the car

Put paper tickets in the fare box when getting off, and pay in cash when getting off. The currency exchange machine in the car only accepts coins and 1,000 yen bills, so don't just bring large bills. For touch payments using nationwide interchangeable transport IC cards such as IruCa, Suica, ICOCA, and supported credit/debit cards, use the same card when getting on and off.

After purchasing a paper ticket, do not pay with a card again.

Accommodation/JR transfer around Takamatsu Station

Takamatsu Station · 高松駅
Takamatsu-Chikko Station · 高松築港駅

  1. Arrival lobby → Prepare 1,300 yen ticket or payment method to Takamatsu Station → Go to airport number 2.
  2. Take the airport limousine via ‘高松駅’ for about 50 minutes. After entering the city, it passes through Kawaramachi, Hyogo-machi, Takamatsu Chikko, and JR Hotel Clement.
  3. Get off at Takamatsu Station No. 6. For the return journey, airport buses use stop 3, so don't confuse the arrival and departure numbers.
  4. To take JR, go to the southwest ‘JR 高松駅’ station building from the bus terminal, buy a ticket, and enter the JR ticket gate. Please check the electronic display board on the day for platform and departure times. If you are going to your accommodation, do not enter the ticket gate, but start looking for directions using your accommodation address at the square in front of the station.

Kotoden is Takamatsu Chikko Station, not JR

To ride the Kotoden, go from the JR station square to the east side of Chuo-dori and Tamamo Park and go to the entrance of Takamatsu-Chikko Station. Separate tickets, fares, and ticket gates are used. If this station is your destination, you can get off the airport bus Takamatsu Chikko No. 8 first and follow the nearby crosswalks and station signs.

Although the name is similar, you cannot ride the Kotoden if you enter through the JR ticket gate.

  3. Follow the park fence and ‘東門’ (East Gate) sign to the East Gate ticket office. The official tour guide is about a 1-minute walk from the stop. The map shows the East Gate access point rather than the center of the garden.

A railway station with a similar name is at a different entrance.

Kotoden Ritsurin-Koen Station · 栗林公園駅 is located southeast of the East Gate, about a 7-minute walk from the official gate, and JR Ritsurin-Koen-Kitaguchi Station · 栗林公園北口駅 is about a 3-minute walk from the North Gate. JR Ritsurin Station · 栗林駅 is another station, about a 15-minute walk from the garden. This is not a route where you take the train directly from the airport to these stations, but a route where you first take a bus to the city and transfer.

If you are just visiting the park, it is easy to get off the bus in front of the park.

General opening hours in October are 6:00-17:30. The last bus arrival does not determine when the garden closes, so if you arrive late, please visit the next day. East and north gate lockers have size and space restrictions, and for luggage that does not fit, check the official storage instructions (400 yen per item). Please leave time to collect your luggage.

  1. Prepare a 1,300 yen ticket or card from the arrival lobby to the port → Go to airport number 2.
  2. Choose a bus with an arrival time in the ‘フェリーターミナル’ (Ferry Terminal) column of the official timetable. The journey from the airport via JR Takamatsu Station to the port takes about 53 minutes. A blank column means that bus does not serve the port.
  3. Get off at the port stop and collect your luggage. Check signs 1 and 2 and the ferry ticket booth north for ferries, and signs 3 and 4 for high-speed ships east. You should not think of tickets for all islands and all ships being sold in one building.
  4. If you took the bus that ends at the station, walk from the station bus terminal to the ticket booth for each vessel following the signs for Northeast Portサンポート. The official operator guides you from the JR station to the port in about 5 minutes, but please allow extra time for bus disembarkation, signals, ticketing, and each boarding point.

  • Naoshima: First-come-first-served basis without general reservations or advance sales. Ticketing begins 40 minutes before departure for ferries and 30 minutes before departure for high-speed boats. 20:30 The last high-speed ferry is sold by the crew at boarding area 3, so don't wait in front of the closed ferry window. High-speed boats only accept cash; ferry vending machines accept credit cards. Refunds for unused tickets within the validity period are subject to an adult fee of 200 yen.
  • Teshima: From March 20th to November 30th, the spring, summer, and fall schedule is used, and from December 1st to March 19th, the winter schedule is used. From spring to fall, operations vary by day, including Tuesdays when the museum is closed, but the last direct flight at 18:03 is indicated for the previous day. 1,450 yen in cash; ticketing begins 20 minutes before departure; reservations are not possible. For same-day refunds, contact the purchase counter or crew. The capacity is 70 people, so you may not be able to ride if it is full.
  • Shodoshima Tonosho: For both ferries and high-speed boats, pedestrian passengers are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis without reservation. Web reservation of vehicles is subject to separate conditions. The ferry weekday 15:10 departure is not available for general passengers due to the transportation of dangerous goods. Please check weekend and public holiday conditions and notices. The refund fee for unused tickets is 200 yen per ticket.
  • Ferries can transport cars, but high-speed ships cannot carry cars. Bicycles are not allowed on the Tonosho High-Speed Line. Please check with each operating company for suitcase size, quantity, storage location on board, and separate fares, and do not apply bus trunk rules to ships.

Even if the ship departs on time, there may be immigration, bus congestion, ticket lines, and sold out. As an editorial suggestion, compare itineraries to arrive at the port at least 30-60 minutes ahead of your desired ship departure, but this is not a common operator boarding cut-off time or guaranteed connection. Even if you arrive before the operator begins issuing tickets, you will need time to line up and move to the boarding area.

For last-minute itineraries, prepare alternative hotels in the city.

Last Takamatsu airport bus and delayed arrivals

The last regular bus departing the airport from October 1 to 24, 2026 is 21:45 → Ritsurin Koenmae 22:13 → Kawaramachi 22:20 → Takamatsu Chikko 22:30 → Takamatsu Station 22:35. The port space for this section is blank. The last bus to the ferry terminal is 19:10 → Port 20:03, and there is no day restriction for both bus services.

Some other international connecting flights have symbols such as Friday only or Sunday, Tuesday, Friday. Bus departures timed to Seoul flight arrivals are also displayed separately, and in the October table, they are scheduled as arrival 10:30 → bus 11:30, arrival 16:15 → bus 17:15.

This does not mean that entry will always take the same amount of time. After October 25th, check back in the table for the new coverage period.

Kotoden informs you that airport departures are adjusted according to flight arrivals and baggage pickup, and states that times may vary due to international flight delays. If the bus is full, you may need to wait for the next bus, and connection to JR, Kotoden, or ships is not guaranteed. If you are late, ask about the actual final destination and remaining buses before boarding.

Even if buses are still running, the last ferry may be different

Even if the last bus to the port arrives at 20:03 as scheduled, it will only be 17 minutes until the last ferry to Tonosho at 20:20. Considering baggage claim, ticketing, and waiting for boarding, connection cannot be guaranteed. The 20:30 Naoshima High-Speed Line also does not connect automatically, and the last sailing to Teshima (18:03) has already departed.

Check the destination island/port port and travel date, and if your flight is late, consider staying in the city and traveling the next day.

If the bus is over, check the official taxi stand and reserved vehicles. Ask your accommodation when late check-in is possible and have your address ready. Check the remaining walking distance, suitcase transport, crosswalk, and elevator use times at the station or port, but do not arbitrarily expect a shuttle or late-night shuttle to your accommodation.

Official transportation purchase and reservation information

For airport bus and ship tickets, you can check how to purchase them in the operator's official information below. Below is official information, not an affiliate link. Airport bus tickets are issued on-site and paid for on-board; for ships, purchase at each ticket office; for pre-booked vehicles, check the reservation conditions directly with the company.

The boarding location is different for regular taxis and pre-booked vehicles

Regular taxis use the official pick-up point in front of the Information Center. For pre-booked/app-called vehicles, cross the crosswalk and check the vehicle number with the company at the separate reservation taxi area in the front parking lot.

Official meter estimates, as of update on March 16, 2026, are from about 6,300 yen for stations, about 6,000 yen for Kawaramachi, and about 5,400 yen for park east gates, and vary depending on the route, waiting time and destination.

Flat-rate taxis are priced at 5,200, 5,800, and 6,000 yen depending on the area, and late-night taxis that cover all sections between 22 and 05:00 are priced at 6,240, 6,960, and 7,200 yen. Don't apply the same flat rate to all hotels near the station. Before making a reservation, please check the address zone, vehicle type, number of luggage, flight number, delay notification, additional stops, restrictions on changes outside the zone, tolls, waiting fees, cancellation conditions, and the final total amount.

Rental cars: first-floor counter, then transfer to the branch

The official airport information states that after applying at the rental car counter in the arrival lobby on the 1st floor, free transportation to and from each airport office is provided. Business hours vary from company to company, so don't assume you can get your car until the last bus.

Before booking, confirm valid driving documents, collection arrangements after a delay, insurance, return and parking conditions. Ask whether taking the vehicle to an island is permitted.

A rail pass or sightseeing tour is not necessarily an airport bus or ferry ticket. Check which journeys your pass covers and whether separate reservations are required.

Where should I get off to get to Kawaramachi accommodation?

Take the city-bound limousine from airport stop 2 to Kawaramachi stop 5: about 35 minutes and 1,000 yen. Start your hotel walk from the west-side bus terminal. For Central Park or Hyogo-machi, compare a nearer stop against your hotel’s address.

Do I need to make a reservation for the airport bus?

General passengers of the Kotoden Airport Limousine ride in unreserved seats without reservations. If seats are full, you may have to take the next bus. For wheelchair lift-compatible vehicles, separate reservation conditions must be checked.

How do I pay the bus fare?

Tickets purchased from airport vending machines are placed in the fare box when disembarking. Pay cash when getting off, and prepare coins and 1,000 yen bills for on-board currency exchange. IruCa, nationwide interchangeable transport IC card, and supported credit/debit card touch payment is made by touching the same card both when boarding and when getting off. Please check the on-site display for card support for each vending machine.

Are JR Takamatsu Station and Takamatsu Chikko Station the same place?

They are separate stations. For JR, go to the JR ticket gate of the Takamatsu Station building, and for Kotoden, go from the plaza in front of the station toward the eastern Chuo Dori and Tamamo Park and enter the Takamatsu Chikko Station ticket gate. The airport bus drop-off point is not a railway platform.

How do I get to Ritsurin Park from the airport?

Take the limousine bound for the city and get off at Ritsurin Koenmae. It costs 1,000 yen for adults, the ride is about 28 minutes, and the official guide is about a 1-minute walk to the east gate. Kotoden Ritsurin-Koen Station is about a 7-minute walk from the east gate, and JR Ritsurin-Koen-Kitaguchi Station is about a 3-minute walk from the north gate.

Can I go directly to Takamatsu Port?

Only buses with arrival times in the ferry terminal box on the timetable go to the port. From October 1 to 24, 2026, the last bus serving the port will depart the airport at 19:10 and arrive at 20:03, and the last bus terminates at the station at 21:45. If you get off at the station, you must walk an additional distance to the ticket office and boarding area for each ship.

Can I take a boat to Naoshima on the same day I arrive at the airport?

Check a sailing you can reach after immigration, baggage collection, bus waiting, the ride, the port walk and ticketing. The checked regular timetable gives the last Miyanoura ferry as 18:05 and last high-speed boat as 20:30. For 20:30, crew sell tickets at high-speed boarding area 3. Delays, full services or suspensions can prevent the connection; compare overnight accommodation in Takamatsu if needed.

Do ferries and high-speed boats use the same dock?

No. The Naoshima Miyanoura and Shodoshima Tonosho ferries are numbered 1 and 2, the high-speed ferry for both routes is numbered 3, and the Teshima Ferry bound for Teshima Ieura is numbered 4. Please also check the ferry ticket office and high-speed boat ticket office separately. The Jumbo Ferry to Sakate is a different terminal.

Can I use it with a large suitcase?

Load and collect your own luggage from the limousine’s lower compartment, and keep valuables and fragile items with you. A single allowance for all bus and boat services has not been confirmed. Ask the relevant operator about large or multiple bags, especially on high-speed boats.

What do I do if my flight is late and I miss the last bus or sailing?

Kotoden adjusts airport departures to flight arrivals and baggage delivery, but onward train and ferry connections are not guaranteed. Ask staff about remaining buses. After the last sailing, compare a night in Takamatsu and travel the next day. After buses finish, compare an official taxi or confirmed pickup and check your hotel’s late-arrival conditions.
