The roughly 600 m of old streets are free to walk, as is entry to the Preservation Centre (八日市・護国町並保存センター). Shopping, house and museum visits and paid guides cost extra; prices vary by service.

Opening hours

The old streets are public roads without separate business hours listed. The Preservation Centre opens 09:00–16:30 and closes Tuesdays, public holidays and over the year-end period. Shops, houses and museums have individual operating and closing days; check each place you plan to visit.

How to get to Uchiko’s old streets

Take a train via Uchiko from JR Matsuyama Station and get off at Uchiko. The old streets’ southern entrance is about 1 km/15 minutes away on foot. Ozu trains via Iyo-Nagahama do not pass through Uchiko, so check stops. Required tickets also vary by train category.

How much time should I allow to explore Uchiko’s old streets?

The tourism association suggests 1–2 hours for walks around the old streets and Uchiko-za, or about 3 hours with a café stop or lunch. The southern street entrance is about 15 minutes on foot from Uchiko Station; allow extra time for both station walks and train waits. Uchiko-za’s main building is closed for construction.
