Admission
Gorge walks and sightseeing are free. Boat rental and parking cost extra. Boat prices cover one boat for 30 minutes and vary by date; check your visit date in the official booking calendar. Overtime costs ¥1,000 per additional 10 minutes.
Opening hours
Rental boats generally operate 08:30–17:00, with last reception at 16:30. Long queues may cause reception to close earlier. No single opening schedule is listed for the gorge paths, so check walking access and boat operation separately.

How to get to Takachiho Gorge
Official tourism guidance gives about 2 hours 15 minutes by car from Miyazaki city or the airport to the gorge. By public transport, take a bus from Nobeoka Station to Takachiho Bus Centre, a journey of about 90 minutes. The gorge is a further roughly 8-minute drive from the bus centre, so arrange transport to and from it separately.
Before you visit
Finish parking and reception before your reservation
Boat reception is inside Oshioi car park 1. There is no dedicated or reservable parking, and a boat reservation does not secure a space. Arrive with time for parking queues, reception and walks from the car park to reception and the boarding area.
Check boat operation and path access separately
Safety inspections, weather, water levels and bookings may suspend boats or cause reception to close early. Check maintenance closures in the official booking calendar. Open sections of walking paths can also change with weather, water levels and construction, so follow your travel date’s notices.

When can I book a boat at Takachiho Gorge?
Online reservations open at 09:00 fourteen days before use and close at 09:00 two days before, with advance credit-card payment required. Telephone and email bookings and cancellation waiting lists are not accepted. Some days require advance reservations and others have maintenance closures; check availability and the price for one boat for 30 minutes in your date’s official calendar.
If boats are suspended, can I still walk the gorge?
Check path access separately even if boats are suspended. Read your travel date’s weather, water-level and construction notices and explore only open sections.
