Admission
Ordinary main garden admission costs 320 yen for adults or 160 yen for children. Adults are ages 15 and older excluding students in compulsory education; the child rate applies to children and students in compulsory education. During the plum festival, adults pay 500 yen and children 250 yen. Those aged 70 and older pay half the ordinary fee, 160 yen; check festival rates separately. Ibaraki residents and entry by 09:00 have separate free-admission conditions. Kobuntei interiors cost separately.
Opening hours
Main garden hours are 06:00–19:00 mid-February–September 30 and 07:00–18:00 October 1–mid-February. Areas outside the main garden remain open. Kobuntei opens 09:00–17:00 mid-February–September 30, last admission 16:45; October 1–mid-February hours are 09:00–16:30, last admission 16:15.

The main garden paths pass through bamboo and large cedar areas. Take time to walk among the trees and explore the gardens around Kobuntei.
How to get to Kairakuen
From Mito Station north exit, walk towards Kodokan to stop stand 1. Take loop route 10 towards Kairakuen to Kobuntei-Omotemon-iriguchi, then walk about five to eight minutes to the main garden’s Omotemon. Return from the same stand 1 on a Mito Station north exit-bound bus. This stop differs from the main garden’s East Gate and Kobuntei building entrance.

Before you visit
Plum festival and Kobuntei closures
Plum flowering varies by date. During the festival, main garden hours may be adjusted to close at 17:00. Kobuntei closes December 29–31. For its interiors, check fees and last admission separately from the main garden.
Walk from the bus stop to Omotemon
Kobuntei-Omotemon-iriguchi stop is about five to eight minutes from the main garden’s Omotemon. Despite its name, it is not directly outside the building entrance. It differs from the East Gate too; check Omotemon on the map.
