The tunnel lets you walk beneath the strait from Shimonoseki to Moji. Its 780-metre passage connects Yamaguchi and Fukuoka prefectures.

Pedestrians enter free. Bicycles/mopeds cost 20 yen; dismount and push them inside.

What to see at Kanmon Pedestrian Tunnel
Take the lift to the undersea passage
Descend by lift at Shimonoseki’s entrance to the undersea passage towards Moji. Walk beneath the sea to Fukuoka Prefecture on the other side.
How to get to Kanmon Pedestrian Tunnel
From Shimonoseki stands 1/2, take a Kokudo Line bus to Mimosusogawa, then walk about one minute to the pedestrian entrance. From Karato, use stand 6. Adults pay 300 yen one way. Descend by lift for the 780-metre Moji passage. Before setting out, check date-specific buses both ways and the Mimosusogawa return-stop position.

Before you visit
Pedestrian access and bicycles
Use the pedestrian entrance, separate from road/JR tunnels. Dismount bicycles/mopeds and push them through. Going to Moji and back covers 1.56 km inside the tunnel alone.
