Admission
Permanent exhibitions: adults living outside Matsue City 700 yen; junior-high students and younger free. This free admission applies from 1 July 2026. Adult groups of 20 or more pay 560 yen; Matsue residents 350. Special-exhibition prices vary. An adult ticket combining Matsue Castle’s keep and permanent history exhibitions costs 1,520 yen and is valid ten days from first use. Individual tickets cost 1,200 and 700 yen, totalling 1,900. The combined ticket excludes history special exhibitions.

How to get to Matsue History Museum
Take Lakeline from JR Matsue stand 7 to Otemae Horikawa boat boarding/History Museum-mae (大手前堀川遊覧船乗場・歴史館前). Walk about three minutes to the museum. Afterwards, return to Matsue Station on the loop bus from the same stop.

Closures and special opening dates in 2026
The museum closes on Mondays, or the next weekday when Monday is a public holiday, and 29 December–1 January. Special openings are announced for 10 August and 2 November 2026. Check the calendar for your visiting date.
