Opening hours

Regular opening hours are 09:00–16:30. Bunshokan closes on the first and third Monday of each month, or the following day when that Monday is a public holiday, and from December 29 to January 3. A notice listed extended opening until 18:30 from August 4 to 14, 2026. Those extended hours apply only to that period.

Stained glass on the stairs and the auditorium ceiling

The stained glass on the stair landing features laurel decoration. Look up in the auditorium for restored plaster motifs featuring Yamagata products such as safflowers and cherries.

How to get to Bunshokan

Walk about 30 minutes from Yamagata Station to Bunshokan’s front entrance. By bus, take a regular service via City Hall and get off at Shiyakusho-mae; it is about a one-minute walk from the stop.
