Stay at the same hotel or move to Yufuin?

With two Beppu nights, visit hells and ropeway on separate days. For a hot-spring town overnight stay, choose one Beppu night then move to Yufuin. Adjust visits around first-day arrival and final-day airport buses.

3 days / 2 nights A

Separate the two hells clusters and mountain views by day

Stay two nights at the same hotel near Beppu Station. The airport Airliner stops at Kitahama, so arrange hotel access separately. Use the hells combined ticket on days one and two. Choose the day-three ropeway only with enough time for flight procedures.

Day 1: airport → hotel → five Kannawa hells

Leave your bags at the hotel, then choose Kannawa hells you can finish before closing.

  1. Oita Airport and accommodation → Beppu Station west side → Kannawa visits

Alight at Kitahama from the airport, leave bags at your hotel and go to Beppu Station west stand 3. Take APU-bound route 5 to Umi Jigoku-mae for Kannawa’s five nearby hells. Choose the return bus first in the official weekday and weekend timetables.

  2. Last Kannawa facility → Umi Jigoku-mae → Beppu accommodation

Finish all visits by 17:00, then walk to the stop. Allow inter-facility walks and visit fewer hells if five do not fit. Eat near the station and rest at your hotel. The 2,400-yen combined ticket, 780-yen route 5 return and 1,600-yen airport–Kitahama bus give a 4,780-yen day-one subtotal.

Leave bags at your hotel after arriving at Kitahama, then go to the Kannawa-bound stand on Beppu Station’s west side. Allow walks between facilities and back to the return stop. Reduce viewing as needed to catch your chosen bus after leaving the facilities.

Day 2: Chinoike and Tatsumaki → Beppu accommodation

Use yesterday’s combined ticket for the unvisited Chinoike and Tatsumaki, then return to the same Beppu hotel.

  1. Beppu accommodation → East stand 5 → Chinoike Jigoku-mae

Buy a 1,100-yen Kamenoi Bus Mini One-Day Pass for today. Take route 26 from Beppu Station east stand 5 to Chinoike Jigoku-mae, then return on outer-loop route 16 towards Beppu Station. Return route 26 heads towards Kannawa; it is not the same direction. Check official weekday and weekend timetables, entrance walks and eruption waits.

  2. Chinoike and Tatsumaki → Route 16 → Beppu hotel and rest

Enter each of the two unvisited hells once with yesterday’s combined ticket. It does not allow repeat visits to the same facility, and bathing is separate. Return to the station for lunch, then rest or use a booked bath at your hotel. No airport travel today. Today’s 1,100-yen Mini One-Day Pass is included for return travel, separate from the combined admission ticket. Day-one route 5 uses ordinary fares.

Day 3: ropeway → Kitahama → airport

After mountain views from the ropeway, return to Beppu and take the airport bus from Kitahama.

  1. Beppu accommodation → West stand 1 → ropeway stop

From Beppu Station west stand 1, take route 36 stopping at Beppu Ropeway. Choose outward and return services in official weekday and weekend timetables. Some services do not stop at the ropeway; check the stop mark. Omit the visit after a late arrival or during suspension.

Buy a 1,800-yen adult return ticket at the lower station and ascend. After viewing and descending, take Beppu Station westbound route 36 from the ropeway stop. Return bus fares are a separate 1,000 yen. Check the last downhill ropeway and a return bus that actually stops here.

  3. Beppu accommodation → Kitahama airport-bound stand

Collect bags and go to the Kitahama airport-bound stand. Plan the walk or transport for your booked hotel address, allowing its time and cost separately. The airport-bound boarding point differs from your arrival stop.

Check the actual route and travel time from your hotel to the Kitahama airport-bound stand.

  4. Kitahama airport-bound stand → Oita Airport

Choose an airport-bound bus in your date’s official timetable that leaves ample time before airline check-in closes. Adult single fare is 1,600 yen. Allow traffic delays and airport procedures beyond scheduled bus arrival. If you cannot catch it after sightseeing, shorten or omit final-day visits.

Choose outward and return route 36 services from the station’s west side that actually stop at the ropeway. The facility is about one minute from the stop; tickets, boarding and descent waits require extra time. Omit the ropeway if returning to Beppu, collecting hotel bags and reaching Kitahama would leave insufficient airport time.

Subtotal of the items included below: 10,280 yen

Included items: Hells combined ticket 2,400 yen; route 5 return 780 yen; return ropeway 1,800 yen; route 36 ropeway buses both ways 1,000 yen; Kitahama airport buses both ways 3,200 yen; day-two Kamenoi Bus Mini One-Day Pass 1,100 yen for route 26 outward and route 16 return.

Costs outside the subtotal: Hotels, meals, flights, bathing, private facilities, bag storage and extra travel between hotels, Kitahama, stations and bus centres.

This subtotal adds the hells combined ticket and listed transport and admission. Day two’s 1,100-yen Mini One-Day Pass is included in 10,280 yen. It cannot be reused on another date and does not replace hells admission. Hotels, meals, flights and bathing are extra. If omitting the ropeway, also subtract its 1,000-yen return bus and 1,800-yen return ropeway fares.

3 days / 2 nights B

Beppu mountain views first, then Yufuin

Stay one night near Beppu Station, then one near Yufuin Station. You must reach Beppu in daylight for a first-day ropeway visit. After late immigration, omit that visit or reconsider the trip’s scope.

Day 1: Kitahama → hotel → ropeway → Beppu hotel

Visit the ropeway if you reach Beppu in daylight and can leave hotel bags. After a late arrival, omit it and rest at your hotel.

  1. Oita Airport and accommodation → Beppu Station west side → ropeway stop

Alight at Kitahama from the airport, leave bags at your hotel and go to Beppu Station. From west stand 1, take route 36 stopping at Beppu Ropeway. 2. Ropeway stop → Mountain views and walking → Beppu hotel

Buy a return ticket at the lower station and ascend. After mountain views and walking, allow time for descent and stop access before the return bus. Airport fare 1,600 yen, return buses 1,000 yen and ropeway 1,800 yen give a 4,400-yen day-one subtotal. Descend and return on Beppu Station westbound route 36 from the ropeway stop.

Choose outward and return route 36 services from the station’s west side that stop at the ropeway. Walk about one minute from the stop, allowing extra time for tickets, boarding and descent waits. If wind or maintenance suspends service, or arrival is late, omit the visit and rest at your Beppu hotel.

Day 2: Beppu → Yufuin

Check out in Beppu and move to Yufuin. Walk the street if your new hotel can store bags, then stay there tonight.

  1. Beppu accommodation → West stand 1 → Yufuin bus centre

From Beppu Station west stand 1, take Yufuin-bound route 36 to Yufuin Station bus centre. Adult single fare is 1,100 yen. Check operation for your date in the official timetable below. Temporary direct services may board elsewhere; distinguish them from standard route 36 and check large-bag loading conditions.

  2. Yufuin bus centre → Hotel bag storage → Yunotsubo Street

On arrival, check whether your hotel can store bags. Choose lunch between the station and Yunotsubo Street, then explore shops in the afternoon. Do not add a return to Beppu carrying bags because you missed the first-day ropeway. Return for hotel check-in and dinner. Route 36 costs 1,100 yen one way for this hotel move; do not count 2,200 yen for return travel.

Standard route 36 and temporary direct services board at different Beppu Station stands. Choose an actual Yufuin-bound service after checking stops and operating dates. Fit the move around large-bag loading, seats and your new hotel’s storage, check-in and shuttle conditions.

Day 3: Lake Kinrin → Yufuin airport bus

Finish the lake walk, then take the airport bus from Yufuin Station bus centre.

  1. Yufuin accommodation → Yunotsubo Street → Lake Kinrin and back

After checkout, visit Lake Kinrin if bags can be stored and flight timing allows. Walk about 25 minutes from the station via Yunotsubo Street, then return the same way. Add shopping, photos and rests beyond 50 minutes of walking. Morning mist is not guaranteed.

  3. Yufuin Station bus centre → Oita Airport

Choose an airport-bound bus in your date’s official timetable that leaves ample time before airline check-in closes. Adult single fare is 2,000 yen. Allow traffic delays and airport procedures beyond scheduled arrival. Shorten or omit final-day sightseeing if the bus does not fit. Yufuin airport buses do not guarantee flight connections.

Return from Lake Kinrin to collect hotel bags, then go to Yufuin Station bus centre. Buses do not guarantee flight connections; if check-in time is short, reduce the walk or take an earlier bus. If you need an earlier airport arrival, reconsider the previous night’s accommodation too.

Subtotal of the items included below: 7,500 yen

Included items: Airport–Kitahama 1,600 yen; return ropeway 1,800 yen; route 36 ropeway buses both ways 1,000 yen; Beppu–Yufuin 1,100 yen; Yufuin–airport 2,000 yen.

Costs outside the subtotal: Hotels, meals, flights, bathing, private facilities, bag storage and extra travel between hotels, Kitahama, stations and bus centres.

This subtotal adds only items verified with ordinary fares and does not cover the whole trip with hotels and meals. Omitting the ropeway removes its 1,000-yen return buses and 1,800-yen ticket. Route 36 on the hotel-move day includes only the 1,100-yen single, without return fares.
