Day 1: Shizuoka Station → current city art museum exhibition → Shizuoka hotel

Use the underground passage to Aoi Tower’s third floor, about three minutes away. This differs from the prefectural art museum. Check your exhibition’s hours and admission deadline, then visit. Allow separate time for lunch and rest.

The museum opens 10:00–19:00, with exhibition admission until 18:30. It closes on Mondays except public holidays, when closure moves to the next weekday. Return towards the station via the underground passage. For other exhibition periods, recheck content, fees and closing days.

Day 2: Shizuoka Station → Nihondaira and Kunozan Toshogu → Shizuoka hotel
- Shizuoka Station bus stop → Nihondaira Ropeway bus terminus
Choose a bus reaching the Nihondaira Ropeway terminus. In your date’s weekday or weekend/public-holiday timetable, check both the summit-bound and Shizuoka Station-bound returns. After reaching the summit, allow time for the ropeway, shrine and viewpoints.

- Nihondaira Ropeway Station → Kunozan Station and Toshogu
Buy a return ropeway ticket and descend to Kunozan Station. After the approximately five-minute ride, climb about 80 steps to the shrine buildings. Ticketing, waiting and stairs are additional to ride time. If stairs would be difficult or wind suspends the ropeway, omit the shrine and focus on terrace views.

- Kunozan Toshogu Shrine → Shrine worship area
Use a shrine ticket for architecture and paid worship areas. Admission for high-school students and older visitors is 700 yen; the museum costs extra. The shrine opens 09:00–17:00, with reception until 16:50, but finish in time for your return bus.

- Toshogu and Kunozan Station → Nihondaira Yume Terrace
Take the steps back to Kunozan Station and the ropeway to Nihondaira. No walking path connects the two mountains. Allow summit lunch and rest, then follow terrace signs along the approximately three-minute walking connection. The outdoor walkway is free; general building admission is 100 yen. Building hours are 09:00–17:00 Sunday–Friday and 09:00–21:00 Saturdays. Closed the second Tuesday, or next weekday when that is a public holiday. Mt. Fuji visibility depends on weather.

Reach the stop for your chosen return bus to Shizuoka Station. If sightseeing runs late, shorten remaining views and rests to catch it. Have dinner near Shizuoka Station before going to your hotel. The return fare is excluded from this route’s partial total.

Day 3: Shizuoka Station → restored Sunpu Castle gate/turret displays → Shizuoka Station

Walk about 15 minutes from the station to the park. See castle-history displays inside restored Higashigomon Gate and Tatsumi Yagura. Distinguish free park walks from paid indoor exhibitions.

General admission is 200 yen; visiting hours are 09:00–16:30, with last admission at 16:00. Closed Mondays except public holidays, with no substitute closure, and 29 December–3 January. Return along the same route towards the station, about 15 minutes on foot, then have lunch and depart. Follow date-specific construction guidance.

Take a MOA-bound bus and alight at the terminus after about seven minutes. Choose museum-bound and station-bound return services for your date together. M-marked services do not run on museum closing days.

Descend the escalators to the stop, then take your chosen Atami Station-bound bus. Travel from exhibition rooms to the stop and waiting are additional to the approximately seven-minute ride. Have dinner or rest near the station.

Day 3: Atami Station → Sun Beach coast → Atami Station

After breakfast, walk about 20 minutes from the station to Sun Beach. Explore the sandy beach and promenade. Enjoy seaside scenery on a different day from architecture and art.

Shorten the visit in strong rain or wind. The return towards the station is uphill; add rests and boarding-area access to the approximately 20-minute walk. Choose lunch on the way or near the station. This itinerary is a coastal walk; summer swimming and water-park use are separate.

Nihondaira Ropeway plans suspension for equipment works. During this period, the ropeway route to and from Kunozan Toshogu is unavailable. Even for terrace views alone, check buses and terrace opening separately.
Frequently asked questions
Can I choose only the viewpoint instead of the shrine with two Shizuoka nights?
Yes. If Toshogu stairs would be difficult, visit Yume Terrace views and return. Keeping the city art museum and Sunpu Castle but removing ropeway/shrine makes checked costs 2,610 yen including the terrace building, or 2,510 using only its free outdoor walkway. This uses 1,600-yen Renoir same-day general admission for 22 September–15 November 2026. Nihondaira’s return bus, accommodation and meals cost extra. Choose the return bus in your date’s timetable.

Do I need a bus for every sightseeing day with two Atami nights?
Day-one Kiunkaku and final-day Sun Beach each use an approximately 20-minute walk from Atami Station. Only day-two MOA uses return buses from stand 8. The current 3,010-yen partial total includes MOA admission 2,000, return bus 400 and Kiunkaku admission 610. Budget separately if replacing slope walks with buses or adding facilities.
