Arrive at Toyama Station around noon on Day 1 for park walks, then visit the museum on Day 2. A hotel within walking distance north of the station makes both days easy on foot. Stay one night near the station; any bus journeys cost extra.

Day 1: Kansui Park walks

Walk beside the canal and water at Kansui Park north of Toyama Station.

  1. Toyama Station north exit → Kansui Park

    Walk about nine minutes from Toyama Station’s north exit to Kansui Park. Allow extra time from hotel to station, within the station and at crossings.

  2. Kansui Park waterfront → Tenmon Bridge and observation towers

    Walk along the canal in the afternoon. Park entry and waterfront walks are free, and the park itself is always open. Tenmon Bridge and its observation towers are landmarks, but tower hours are 09:00–21:30. Spend time by the canal and bridge in good weather; shorten walks in strong wind or rain. Cruises, cafés and meals are outside this free walk.

  3. Kansui Park → Toyama Station north exit

    Return to the station’s north exit in the evening, then head to your booked hotel. The park–station walk is about nine minutes. Leave time for dinner and hotel access too. Visit museum exhibitions the next morning; use this evening for park walks and dinner.

Day 2: museum collections, then depart Toyama

Visit the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design collections, then return to Toyama Station.

  1. Toyama Station north exit → Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design

    Walk from the north exit to the museum. Official museum guidance gives about 15 minutes. For the 09:30 opening, leave your hotel early enough for station walks and crossings too. A bus from north-side stand 1 also runs via the museum; get off at the museum stop. Check its fare, wait and walk from the stop separately from the 15-minute walking route.

  2. Museum entrance → Collection exhibitions

    Visit the collections after opening. Normal hours are 09:30–18:00, last admission 17:30; ordinary adult collection admission is 350 yen. Allow around two hours, adjusting for exhibition changes and your pace. Special exhibitions cost extra. Free building access does not include paid collection exhibitions. Check operating and weather conditions separately for lunch or a rooftop visit.

    Return along the same route to Toyama Station’s north exit. Allow the 15-minute walk plus crossings and station access before your departure. Buses cost extra.

Day 2: Zuiryuji and Amaharashi coast

Visit Zuiryuji, then Amaharashi coast.

  1. Toyama Station → Takaoka Station south side to Zuiryuji

    Take a westbound ordinary Ainokaze Toyama Railway train from Toyama to Takaoka, distinct from Shinkansen Shin-Takaoka Station. The adult one-way fare is 390 yen. Exit south and walk about ten minutes to Zuiryuji.

  2. Zuiryuji → Return to Takaoka Station and buy JR tickets

    Visit the temple after its 09:00 opening, then return to the station. Ordinary adult admission is 500 yen. Allow time for an early lunch and JR tickets near the station. Check both return rail sections first so temple and coast visits fit.

  3. JR Himi Line at Takaoka Station → Amaharashi Station to the coast

    Take a Himi-bound JR Himi Line train from Takaoka to Amaharashi. The adult single fare is 240 yen; walk about five minutes to the coast. Mountain visibility depends on weather. Choose your Takaoka-bound return first, leaving time to walk back to the station.

  4. Amaharashi Station → Takaoka Station

    Return to Amaharashi Station and take a Takaoka-bound Himi Line train. Check travel-date timetables and suspensions. Choose both return sections, including the transfer to Ainokaze for Toyama.

  5. Takaoka Station → Toyama Station

    At Takaoka, transfer to an eastbound ordinary Ainokaze train towards Toyama. The adult single fare is 390 yen. Allow time after leaving JR Himi Line to buy Ainokaze tickets and reach the platform. If delayed, ask station staff about the next Toyama train.

Frequently asked questions

Can I leave Toyama immediately after Amaharashi on Day 2?

Yes, if both return rail sections connect to your Toyama departure and allow station access. Take JR Himi Line to Takaoka, then Ainokaze to Toyama. Check long-distance train or airport access separately for your actual departure.
