Toyama attraction guide
Choose Kansui Park for walks near Toyama Station or the museum for exhibitions. For temple and sea together, visit Takaoka’s Zuiryuji and Amaharashi. Give Murodo mountain scenery or Suganuma village walks a separate day, checking return transport first.

Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design
富山県美術館
The museum collects paintings as well as posters and chair designs. Visit for everyday-object design alongside art. Displayed works change, so choose exhibitions from your date’s programme. Ordinary adult collection admission is 350 yen; special exhibitions cost extra.
- Collection admission and effective dateOrdinary adult collection admission is 350 yen, applicable from 1 July 2026. Check special-exhibition fees and free-admission eligibility separately.
- Museum and rooftop hoursMuseum hours are 09:30–18:00, last admission 17:30. Check your date’s calendar for Wednesday, post-public-holiday and New Year closures/exceptions. Rooftop hours are 08:00–22:00, last admission 21:30, with closure from 1 December to 15 March. Weather can also restrict access.
- Walk or bus from the stationOfficial guidance gives about 15 minutes on foot from Toyama Station’s north exit. Allow park-walking time separately if taking that route. From north stand 1, take a bus via Toyama Red Cross Hospital and the prefectural museum, alighting at the museum stop for immediate access. Check bus fares, your date’s services and step-free entrances in official guidance.

Fugan Canal Kansui Park
富岩運河環水公園
Walk and rest by the water without travelling far from Toyama Station. View the canal and Tenmon Bridge or pause beside the lawns. The park is about nine minutes from the north exit and walks are free. Tower hours are 09:00–21:30; check separate cruise fares and operating days.

- Park and observation-tower hoursThe park itself is always open; Tenmon Bridge tower hours are 09:00–21:30. Shorten walks in strong wind or rain.
- Walk from Toyama Station’s north sideThe official city tourism association gives about nine minutes from the north exit. Add hotel-to-station access, station walks and crossings. Return towards the same north exit.

Zuiryuji
Zuiryuji Temple瑞龍寺
At Zuiryuji, view its National Treasure gate, Buddha hall and Dharma hall, with corridors joining the buildings. Visit in Takaoka for historic Japanese temple architecture. Ordinary adult admission is 500 yen; enter at least 30 minutes before closing. Winter closing is earlier.
- Admission feesOrdinary admission costs 500 yen for adults, 200 yen for junior-high and high-school students, and 100 yen for elementary-school students.
- Visiting hours and winter closingOpen 09:00–16:30, with last admission 30 minutes before closing. Closing is 16:00 from 10 December to 31 January.
- Walk from the stationGuidance gives about ten minutes from Takaoka Station’s south side or 15 minutes from Shin-Takaoka. Choose your route for the station where you arrive.
Amaharashi Coast
雨晴海岸
Walk or photograph sea and rocky-island scenery at Amaharashi. Clear weather and good visibility may reveal the Tateyama mountains across the sea, but they are not always visible. Coastal walks are free and about five minutes from Amaharashi Station. Choose your Himi Line return first to decide how long to spend here.

- JR Himi Line access and returnTake a Himi-bound JR Himi Line train from Takaoka to Amaharashi. Official tourism guidance gives a five-minute walk to the coast. Return on a Takaoka-bound train.
- Views and nearby rest facilitiesWeather may hide the Tateyama mountains across the sea. Michi-no-Eki Amaharashi is a nearby rest facility, distinct from the coast itself.
Murodo
室堂
Give Murodo a day for mountain scenery away from the city. Exit the terminal rooftop to Murododaira. Transfer from Dentetsu-Toyama through railway, cable car and highland bus; the ordinary adult return on the same route costs 10,220 yen. Choose walks according to mountain weather/restrictions and arrange complete connections through the return private railway.
- Mountain transport return fareFrom 15 April 2026, the ordinary adult return costs 10,220 yen for Dentetsu-Toyama–Tateyama–Bijodaira–Murodo and back on the same route. It includes railway, cable car and highland bus without crossing to Kurobe Dam/Ogizawa. Special/reserved seats, food and accommodation are extra.
- Mountain operating season and timetablesThese dates concern transport operation, not opening hours for the Murodo area. The operator’s planned 2026 season is 15 April–30 November. Timetables vary by season and weekdays/weekends. Choose your outbound and complete return, including private railway, for your date. Do not apply this route unchanged outside the season. Check Snow Wall visiting dates and weather-related suspensions separately.
- Route to Murodo and return orderTake a Tateyama-bound private train from Dentetsu-Toyama. At Tateyama, take the cable car to Bijodaira, then a highland bus to Murodo. Return via Bijodaira and Tateyama to Dentetsu-Toyama.
- Ticket collection and transfer timeLeave ticket-collection and transfer time between your private train arrival and Tateyama reservation.

- WEB ticket reservation timeRegister to book WEB tickets, then choose date, section, one-way/return and departure time. From the Toyama side, the reserved time is departure from Tateyama Station, not the Dentetsu-Toyama train. Busy-period guidance advises arriving 30 minutes before departure and collecting tickets 15 minutes before. Check ticket-collection conditions in the WEB guide below.
- Travel-date WEB ticket salesWEB sales periods, deadlines and bookable departures vary by season/product. Choose your date and Tateyama section, then check sales and seats on the official booking site. Consult same-day ticket guidance for dates without WEB sales.
- Return connections and seasonal last departuresReturn by highland bus to Bijodaira, cable car to Tateyama, then private train to Dentetsu-Toyama. Connections vary by season and weekdays/weekends; check through to the final private train. The last mountain connection alone does not secure a Toyama-city return. November mountain connections end earlier, so choose returns first.
- Terminal walks and returnExit the terminal rooftop to Murododaira; restaurants/shops are inside. Walk according to weather/restrictions, returning to the same terminal before your bus. Food costs extra.

Gokayama Suganuma Gassho Village
Suganuma Gassho-zukuri Village菅沼合掌造り集落
Walk lanes outside Suganuma’s gassho houses for mountain-village scenery. Residents live here; do not enter homes without permission. Check opening/admission separately for indoor exhibitions. Visit by World Heritage Bus from Takaoka; buses and food cost extra.
- Village visits and residential areasThis is a residential village in Nanto. Distinguish homes from visitor exhibitions and do not enter residents’ homes without permission.
- Village visiting hoursOfficial tourism guidance gives 08:00–17:00 April–November and 09:00–17:00 December–March. Closed 31 December/1 January. Visit in daylight and avoid coming after sunset. Check exhibitions and restaurants separately.
- World Heritage Bus and reserved seatsTake the World Heritage Bus from Takaoka Station stand 7 to Suganuma (菅沼); return from the Takaoka-bound stop. Use the official map for village entry and return boarding points. Check travel-date operation, unreserved-seat conditions and the onward Toyama train together. Tourism guidance gives about one minute from stop to village. Ask the village about step-free access and check the map for the return stop.
- Vehicle contribution and extra costsThe conservation contribution is 1,000 yen per ordinary car or 300 yen per motorcycle, not admission for bus visitors. Indoor exhibitions, food and buses cost extra. Check bus fare/returns with the operator and the stop-to-village route in official village guidance.
- Gokayama two-day pass and reserved seatsThe adult Gokayama pass costs 2,800 yen and is valid two days from first use on the World Heritage Bus between Takaoka Station/Shin-Takaoka and Sasara-kan-mae. It is incompatible with reserved-seat tickets and does not secure a seat. Toyama–Takaoka trains, accommodation, indoor exhibitions and food are extra.

Weather may hide the mountain ridges. Do not plan on mountain visibility being guaranteed.
