Hakkoda Ropeway takes you to Summit Park Station for mountain scenery. For a walk on the mountain, consider the Gourd Line near the station.

The ride takes about 10 minutes each way. Plan time on the mountain around descending services and your return bus.

Admission

For junior high school age and older, return fares cost ¥2,500 and one-way fares ¥1,550. For elementary school students, return fares cost ¥700 and one-way fares ¥450. Preschool children travel free. Prices were revised 1 August 2026.

Opening hours

The regular first service is 09:00. The final service is listed as 16:20 from March to early November and 15:40 from mid-November to February. The ride takes about 10 minutes each way; check descending times that day too. Services may stop for winds of 25 m/s or more, bad weather or regular maintenance.

The Gourd Line is a walking route near Summit Park Station. After the ropeway ride, explore mountain views on foot. Check the weather and trail information and use only sections open that day.

How to get to Hakkoda Ropeway

Take a JR bus towards Lake Towada or Sukayu from Aomori Station and get off at Ropeway Eki-mae (ロープウェー駅前). The adult fare is ¥1,290 one way. Autumn and winter routes and booking conditions differ; check both journeys for your date. Applicable winter departures from Aomori and Shin-Aomori stations require advance reservations and a separate ¥300 reservation fee per ride. The notice states that reservations are not accepted for the return from Ropeway Eki-mae towards Aomori.

October 2026 first services start earlier, at 08:30 weekdays and 08:15 weekends and public holidays. The ropeway is scheduled to stop for inspection and power works from 8 to 20 November 2026; do not plan a visit during that period.

A visit for views needs different preparation from winter hiking or skiing. Check trail information and equipment for your activity. A ropeway ticket does not mean every trail is open.
