3 days in Kobe: Himeji Castle or Arima?
Choose a middle day for Himeji Castle/Koko-en or bathing at Arima Kin no Yu. Stay 2 nights in Sannomiya and make either a day trip.
Himeji uses JR; Arima changes between subway/Kobe Electric Railway. Both rail routes cost separately from harbour City Loop tickets.

Day 2 morning: JR to Himeji Castle
Start Himeji Castle in the morning, eat outside, then visit Koko-en. Search date-specific Sannomiya–Himeji trains in each direction.
- JR Sannomiya → JR Himeji

- JR Himeji north exit → Himeji Castle
Use Himeji's north exit and walk towards the castle. Official station-to-castle guidance gives about 20 minutes, excluding ticket queues and travel inside paid areas. Find lunch options between station/castle and enter the castle first in the morning.
- Himeji Castle → Main tower viewing and lunch outside
Official FAQ viewing guidance gives about 90–120 minutes, with roughly another hour's wait possible when busy. Remove shoes inside the tower; steep stairs have no lift. Minimize luggage and do not commit to interior viewing if stairs are difficult. Start in the morning rather than close to 16:00 last admission. Check same-day validity/no-re-entry conditions, then eat lunch outside after viewing.

- Outside Himeji Castle → Separate Koko-en entrance and viewing
Visit Koko-en in the afternoon before returning to Kobe. After leaving the castle, locate Koko-en's western entrance on the official access map: a walled gate distinct from castle paid-area entry. Allow the separate walk. Standard garden hours are 09:00–17:00, last entry 16:30; check event-day operations separately. This day's castle/garden costs use the combined ticket.
- Koko-en → JR Himeji and Sannomiya
Koko-en's official approximately 15-minute walk describes JR Himeji-to-garden access. For returns, check your actual exit, walking pace and station route, adding station access/train waits. Take an Osaka/Kyoto-bound train from JR Himeji to Sannomiya. If castle viewing runs late, shorten garden time or choose a later return.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a Kobe city bus pass for Arima?
City Loop tickets do not cover Arima's subway/Kobe Electric Railway journey. The ordinary adult one-way fare via Tanigami is 720 yen, separate from City Loop.
City Loop fares, passes and outletsKobe Electric Railway ordinary fare search
Can one 2-day pass cover buses on days 1 and 3?
No. It lasts 2 consecutive days. The 3-day Himeji route uses City Loop on days 1/3, so one pass is not applied. Five single fares total 1,500 yen.
Do I return to Kobe after only the castle in Himeji?
After tower viewing, eat outside then enter Koko-en separately. Divide time between castle/garden, then return to JR Himeji for Sannomiya.
