Two nights in Ishikawa: where should I spend the second?

Stay two Kanazawa nights for market lunch, garden walks and both historic districts. For onsen overnight rest, split the stay into one Kanazawa night and one Yamanaka night, moving after Kenrokuen on Day 2. Add Higashi Chaya on the return day only if hotel shuttle, IR trains and return sightseeing buses fit your onward departure. Airport travel and procedures take extra time.

Frequently asked questions

Does booking a room automatically reserve Yamanaka pickup?

For Ohanami Kyubei, book pickup separately from your room by the previous day. It does not run at times without reservations. Board at the south-exit hotel pickup point at Kaga Onsen, distinct from local-bus stand 2. For another hotel, check its own pickup conditions.

Hotel access and pickup point

Can I see Higashi Chaya on the onsen return day?

After the hotel shuttle and IR local train to Kanazawa, add Higashi Chaya if enough time remains before your onward departure. Take the Right Loop from east-side stand 7 to Hashibacho outside Kinjoro, then walk about five minutes. The same loop returns via Kenrokuen, Korinbo and Omicho Market, longer than the outward journey. Compare shuttle, train and return sightseeing buses together; omit the district if time is short and continue from the station to your next service.

Can a Hokuriku rail pass cover the IR local train to Kaga Onsen?

Onsen course rail subtotals use ordinary Kanazawa–Kaga Onsen IR tickets at 880 yen one way or 1,760 return. The IR exception for the Hokuriku, Hokuriku Arch and Kansai–Hokuriku passes covers passing between Kanazawa and Tsubata without getting off at other IR stations. It therefore does not apply to this course getting off at Kaga Onsen. If switching to Shinkansen, recheck each pass’s coverage and seat conditions, travel-date trains and hotel pickup connections. Onsen buses and admission also need separate checks. Compare passes against your departure city and other journeys.
