Which Ishikawa attractions should I visit?

Kenrokuen Garden兼六園
Walk leisurely among Kenrokuen’s ponds and trees, following paths between hills and pavilions. From 16 October, closing moves one hour earlier, from 18:00 to 17:00.
- AdmissionOrdinary individual admission is 320 yen for ages 18+ and 100 yen for ages 6–17. Check official visiting guidance for free opening days and concessions.
- Seasonal hours and closuresFrom 1 March to 15 October, hours are 07:00–18:00, last admission 17:30. From 16 October to the end of February, they change to 08:00–17:00, last admission 16:30. The garden opens year-round; teahouse hours and closures are separate.
- Access, stop and garden entranceTake the Right Loop from Kanazawa east-side stand 7 to Kenrokuen-shita/Kanazawa Castle, then walk about five minutes to Katsurazaka entrance (桂坂口). From Hirosaka/21st Century Museum, the nearer entrance is Mayumizaka (真弓坂口), a different gate. Garden itineraries here use Katsurazaka.

Omicho Market

- Access from the stationOfficial tourism guidance gives about 12 minutes on foot from Kanazawa’s east side, or a route via Musashigatsuji/Omicho Market bus stop. Allow separate time for browsing, eating and shopping.
- Individual shop hours and closuresOfficial tourism guidance gives roughly 09:00–16:00, but shops vary. Check Wednesday closures and New Year holidays. For an evening visit, check your chosen shop’s hours.

Higashi Chaya’s traditional teahouse lanes have machiya cafés and gold-leaf craft shops. Rest with matcha and Japanese sweets while exploring. Indoor teahouse admission and shop hours vary.

- Bus stop, streets and residencesOfficial tourism guidance gives about five minutes on foot from Korinbo. Street walks and individual residence admission are separate. Check opening hours before choosing a paid indoor visit.
- Return bus and mealsAfter Nagamachi, return to the Right Loop at Korinbo outside the former Bank of Japan for Kanazawa Station. Distinguish it from the Left Loop outside Atrio. Lunch is an option in Korinbo/Katamachi, but check opening, reservations and prices with your chosen restaurant.

Yamanaka Onsen
山中温泉
Rest at a Yamanaka Onsen hotel after city sightseeing. With two nights, leave time for a nearby riverside walk and hotel rest in between. Take a train to Kaga Onsen, then transfer to a bus or prebooked hotel pickup.
- Bus from Kaga Onsen StationThis onsen area is reached by bus from Kaga Onsen Station. The tourism association lists Yamanaka Onsen-bound buses from stand 2. Check visit-date fares and services with the bus operator below.
- Rail fares and suspended direct busKanazawa–Kaga Onsen local trains use IR Ishikawa Railway. Ordinary adult fare is 880 yen one way or 1,760 return on the same section, excluding Shinkansen and onsen buses. The official fare table was revised on 14 March 2026 and states no fare changes apart from adding Shikibu Station. Check travel-date trains and your hotel bus stop separately. The direct Kanazawa bus is listed as suspended after its last service on 31 July 2023; check current operating notices before planning a direct trip.
- One or two onsen nights?The example hotel, Ohanami Kyubei, has check-in at 15:00 and check-out at 11:00. One-night courses return to Kanazawa the morning after arrival-day baths and dinner. Two-night courses allow nearby riverside walks and hotel rest between nights. Arrange meal times at check-in. Rooms and meals depend on your booked plan; accommodation and food are outside transport/admission subtotals.
- Prebooked hotel pickup or local busFor Ohanami Kyubei’s free pickup, book separately by the previous day. Choose a pickup matching your travel-date train from official hotel access guidance. The suggested ride takes about 25 minutes; it does not run without reservations. Book the return from check-in until breakfast the next morning; for consecutive nights, confirm your actual check-out-day service. Hotel pickup uses the south-exit hotel boarding point; local buses use stand 2. Local buses require extra fares and a separate walk to your hotel.

Kakusenkei
Kakusenkei Gorge鶴仙渓
Kakusenkei’s riverside path runs about 1.3 km from Korogi to Kurotani Bridge. View the gorge from bridges or walk only a section near your hotel. Riverside tea seating depends on season and weather.
- Kawadoko tea seating feesKakusenkei Kawadoko · 鶴仙渓 川床 Ordinary tea seating costs 700 yen for adults and 600 for elementary-school children, including Kaga bocha tea. Dessert sets cost 1,000 and 900 yen respectively. Apply affiliated-inn guest discounts only after checking hotel and proof conditions. Kawadoko seating fees are separate from the riverside-walk subtotals below.
- Kawadoko hours, closures and suspension conditionsHours are 09:30–16:00 from 1 April to 31 October, and 10:00–15:00 in November, with last orders 15 minutes before closing. Closed December–March; November closed days vary. Service stops in rain or rising river levels; seats cannot be reserved.
- Short walks and access to tea seatingKawadoko is below Ayatori Bridge, about 850 metres from Yamanaka Onsen bus terminal; official tourism guidance gives about 15 minutes on foot. Ohanami Kyubei’s guide to nearby sights gives about 20 minutes to Kawadoko and seven minutes to Korogi Bridge. The Korogi–Kurotani path is about 1.3 km. Three- and four-night courses with two onsen nights walk a nearby section and return the same way. Allow more time for Kawadoko or the full path.
- From your hotel to the pathWalk about seven minutes from Ohanami Kyubei to Korogi Bridge, explore a nearby path section, then return the same way. Allow separate route/time planning for Ayatori Bridge or a different hotel. Check on-site stairs and access guidance.
- What to seeThe riverside path runs about 1.3 km from Korogi to Kurotani Bridge. The courses with two nights at the same onsen hotel use a shorter section.

When does Kenrokuen close in October?
Kenrokuen closes at 18:00 through 15 October, then at 17:00 from the 16th. Last admission is 17:30 and 16:30 respectively.
What does city sightseeing cost including garden admission?
Kenrokuen admission is 320 yen per ordinary adult. Including admission, two Loop Bus rides total 760 yen and three total 980. Garden admission plus a bus day pass costs 1,120 yen. Three single bus fares total 660 yen versus an 800-yen day pass; compare actual rides and eligible routes. Accommodation, food, rail, onsen facilities and residence admission are extra.

Which stops serve Higashi Chaya and Nagamachi?
For Higashi Chaya, get off the Right Loop at Hashibacho outside Kinjoro and walk about five minutes. For Nagamachi, get off the Left Loop at Korinbo outside Atrio and walk about five minutes. Return to the station using the station-bound Right Loop at Korinbo outside the former Bank of Japan. Stops sharing the Korinbo name differ by loop direction and boarding location.

Can I use Kakusenkei tea seating in winter?
Kawadoko closes December–March. Hours are 09:30–16:00 April–October and 10:00–15:00 in November, with last orders 15 minutes before closing. Service stops in rain/rising water; November closed days vary. Ordinary adult seating costs 700 yen or 1,000 with dessert, extra to riverside-walk subtotals.
