More literature and temples, or time on the coast?
Stay three nights in Morioka for separate days at the Kenji museum’s literary exhibitions and Hiraizumi temples. For beach, market and cruise on separate days, stay one night in Morioka followed by two in Miyako. The museum still needs an uphill walk and stairs after the bus. If coastal sailings are cancelled, omit the cruise and spend time at the market and on city walks. The museum itinerary includes ¥340 return for buses between Shin-Hanamaki Station and the museum stop. Recheck services and fare changes for your date in the official timetable.

- Outside Miyako Station → Local bus to visitor centre
From stand 3 outside Miyako Station, take a bus towards Jodogahama or Miyako Hospital that calls at the visitor centre. Choose both journeys for your date before leaving; walking to the beach takes additional time after the bus ride.
- Visitor centre → Walk to the beach
The city gives about a 15-minute walk from the centre to the beach.
- Jodogahama beach → Enjoy the beach, then walk back for the bus
After the beach walk, retrace your route to the visitor centre stop for a Miyako Station-bound bus. Leave time to walk back from the beach to the stop.
- Miyako Station → Return to your accommodation; check the day-pass price
Return to Miyako Station for dinner and stay at the same accommodation. The Jodogahama/Miyako Port one-day area pass costs ¥500 per adult and covers local buses within its designated area. Outside the free park shuttle’s operating season, return by an ordinary local bus.
Allow time to walk back from the beach to the visitor centre. Adjust the walk for local restrictions and weather.
Day 3: Miyako Station → market → Dezaki Pier cruise → stay in Miyako
Explore the market, then see the coast on a cruise from Dezaki Pier. If wind or waves cancel sailings, spend time at the market and on city walks.
- Miyako accommodation and station → Morning market walk
Walk about 10 minutes from the station to Miyako’s fish and produce market (宮古市魚菜市場). Browse shops selling fish and seafood. For a meal, check individual restaurants’ hours and menu prices. Official market hours are 06:30–17:30, closed Wednesdays; individual shop hours may differ.

At Sea Topia Nado, go to the Miyako Umineko Maru ticket office at Dezaki Pier. Check your date’s departure and return sailing alongside both bus journeys, allowing for ticket queues and boarding. The adult cruise ticket is ¥1,800; showing that day’s ¥500 city bus pass reduces it to ¥1,500. There are no Tuesday sailings in April–June and September–December, except public holidays. October’s final service, number 7, does not run. For this itinerary, choose a cruise that departs Dezaki and returns to the same pier, without getting off at the beach.
