Where should I stay in Kanagawa?

Choose Yokohama for harbour visits and meals; for temples and Enoshima, compare Kamakura and Fujisawa. For a Hakone night and museum visit, compare Yumoto and Gora accommodation; Gora requires a further mountain railway ride from Yumoto. With an early flight, decide whether to spend the final night in Hakone or move towards the airport first.

Yokohama and Kamakura are separate cities in Kanagawa Prefecture. Enoshima is in Fujisawa City and Hakone in Hakone Town. To visit all four, also compare courses that change accommodation.

Adult two-day passes cost 7,100 yen from Shinjuku or 6,000 yen from Odawara. They cover designated Hakone transport, with one Odakyu return between your starting station and Odawara. JR Yokohama–Odawara, airport trains, Romancecar supplements and Open-Air Museum admission cost extra. This course excludes the lake and ropeway. Two-night course B’s Odawara return and Yumoto–museum–Gora–Yumoto ordinary rail total 1,800 yen, below the 6,000-yen Odawara pass. Compare ordinary tickets if using only those sections. Plan your Hakone stay alongside departure travel

On arrival day, travel from the airport to your base station, then choose sightseeing around arrival time. Hotel dinner deadlines, bathing hours, shuttles and luggage storage depend on your booking; ask before choosing an itinerary. On departure day, allow separately for luggage collection, station access, train waits, transfers and rides, terminal travel and airport procedures. From Hakone, also allow the descent to Odawara. For a morning flight, move the previous day to a city with airport access and omit final-day sightseeing. Courses suggest a visiting order; choose actual departure times using services for your date and booking conditions.

Admission and transport included in course subtotals

Costs are for one adult using Open-Air Museum same-day admission and individual Enoden fares. Days using both Enoshima’s tower and Escar include the 1,100-yen daytime set. On event days, the course leaves the garden before 17:00; evening garden charges are extra. JR, Minatomirai Line, airport travel, station–hotel access, meals, accommodation, separate hot-spring bathing, Buddha interior and extra activities are excluded. Courses visiting Nippon Maru and the museum on separate days use individual 400-yen and 500-yen tickets; the 800-yen same-day combined ticket cannot be split across two dates. Fujisawa–Tsujido JR fares are separate from the free ukiyo-e exhibition. Prices were checked on October 8, 2026.

Kanagawa areas to explore a day at a time

Kanagawa Prefecture · 神奈川県

Choose Yokohama for harbour and ship visits, Kamakura for temples and the Great Buddha, or Enoshima for island sea views. Add separate mountain railway time for Hakone’s museum and hot-spring accommodation. Your return route differs depending on whether you stay throughout in Yokohama or move to Hakone.

Sakuragicho · 桜木町: harbour ship and exhibitions

Walk from Sakuragicho Station to Nippon Maru and the port museum. Choose the ship for its interior or the museum for harbour history. Same-day combined admission differs from individual tickets on separate dates. After a late arrival, choose waterfront walking or meals rather than rushing indoor admission deadlines.

Sankeien: garden walking on a separate harbour day

Allow a separate half-day for Sankeien’s garden and historic buildings. Take a bus from Yokohama’s east exit, then walk from the stop to the main gate. It is not beside the harbour waterfront, so you need not fit it and the ship into a short arrival day. Allow both bus and walking returns to Yokohama.

Hase · 長谷: walk between two temples

Take Enoden from Kamakura or Fujisawa to Hase and walk between Hasedera and Kotokuin. Admission is separate, and Hasedera involves steps up and down. After the Great Buddha, eat around Hase Station and return. Adding Hakone’s mountains the same day reduces temple time.

Enoshima · 江の島: island views and daytime garden

Give Enoshima’s sea views and island walks a separate day from the temples. From Enoden Enoshima Station, cross the bridge, follow Nakamise Street and ascend island slopes to Sea Candle. Escar runs uphill only; allow walking time downhill. The daytime garden is free, the tower is paid, and event-day evening garden admission is separate.

Tsujido · 辻堂: free woodblock print exhibits

Visit Tsujido’s ukiyo-e museum for prints of Fujisawa and Enoshima. Walk about five minutes from JR Tsujido’s north exit to floor seven of Cocoterrace Shonan. Exhibition admission is free; Fujisawa–Tsujido JR fares cost extra. As an indoor visit distinct from temples and island views, it can have its own arrival-day slot, as in four-night course B.

Fujisawa Ukiyo-e Museum free admission, hours and access

Hakone-Yumoto · 箱根湯本: hot-spring stays and the museum

Use Yumoto for hot-spring accommodation, history exhibits and outdoor sculpture. Separating the history museum and art museum across days leaves viewing and resting time. The art museum and Gora require further mountain railway travel. Compare two Yumoto nights in two-night course B with one night and a return to Yokohama before departure in four-night course A. For a morning flight, descend the previous day for a final night somewhere with easier airport access.

Frequently asked questions

Can I visit Kamakura temples and the Hakone museum on the same day?

Give each area a day for unhurried temple and museum visits. In Kamakura, walk between Hasedera and the Great Buddha; in Hakone, travel further from Yumoto by mountain railway to the museum. Combining them reduces viewing time because of travel between areas.
