Choose Nippon Maru for harbour scenery and a ship interior, or Sankeien for historic buildings and garden paths. Visit Hase in Kamakura for temple worship and the Great Buddha, or Enoshima for sea views. For walks among sculptures, take the further mountain railway from Yumoto to Hakone’s art museum. Sankeien Garden三溪園

Explore historic buildings and Japanese garden paths at Sankeien. Take a bus to the garden rather than walking straight in from Yokohama’s harbour waterfront. A separate half-day from the harbour walk leaves more time inside.

Kotokuin and the Great Buddha of Kamakura

Kotoku-in高徳院

See the Great Buddha up close at Kotokuin. Worshipping before the statue and entering its interior have separate fees. Combine Kotokuin with Hasedera in the same half-day if you want both.

  • AdmissionGeneral admission costs 300 yen; ages 6–12 pay 150 yen. The Buddha interior costs an additional 50 yen.
  • HoursApril–September 08:00–17:30; October–March 08:00–17:00, with last grounds admission 15 minutes before closing. Buddha interior 08:00–16:30, last admission 10 minutes before closing. Standard visits need no reservation.
  • Getting thereFrom Kamakura, take Fujisawa-bound Enoden to Hase and walk about seven minutes. The official Kotokuin-to-Hasedera walk is about five minutes.

Kamakura Hasedera長谷寺

Add garden walks and sea views to worship at Hasedera’s Kannon Hall. The grounds involve steps up and down; allow rests between visits when combining it with the Great Buddha.

  • HoursNormal admission hours are 08:00–16:30, with gates closing at 17:00. April–June admission continues until 17:00, with gates closing at 17:30.

Enoshima Sea Candle

Look over the sea and surrounding mountain ridges from Enoshima Sea Candle. Steps and slopes continue towards the island’s upper area after reaching the island. Budget for tower admission and allow walking time within the island.

  • AdmissionTower admission costs 800 yen for adults or 400 yen for elementary-school children. Samuel Cocking Garden is free 09:00–17:00. On event days, leaving after 17:00 adds garden admission of 500 yen adults or 250 yen children. All Escar sections cost 500 yen for adults. The daytime tower and Escar adult set costs 1,100 yen at Escar section one’s boarding point. Do not add separate 800+500-yen tickets to the set price.
  • HoursOfficial general hours are 09:00–20:00, last admission 19:30. Facilities and events may differ.
  • Getting thereOfficial estimates are about 25 minutes from Enoden Enoshima Station or 20 minutes from Odakyu Katase-Enoshima Station, using Escar. Even with Escar, the return requires downhill walking.
  • From Enoshima Station to the island’s upper areaCross Enoshima Benten Bridge into Benzaiten Nakamise Street. Take all three paid Escar sections left of the shrine’s red torii; Samuel Cocking Garden’s entrance is on the right. The tower is inside the garden. Add meals, queues, tower viewing and downhill walking to the access estimate. This course uses the daytime tower and Escar set and leaves the garden before 17:00 on event days.

The Hakone Open-Air Museum彫刻の森美術館

Walk the outdoor sculpture garden among mountain scenery, then see indoor exhibits. Bring an umbrella or raincoat if planning outdoor viewing in rain.

  • Getting thereFrom Yumoto, take a Gora-bound mountain railway train to Chokoku-no-Mori; walk about two minutes. By bus, Ninotaira-iriguchi is about six minutes’ walk away and uses a different route.

Is Enoshima Sea Candle free during daytime too?

The daytime free area is Samuel Cocking Garden; tower admission costs 800 yen for adults. On event days, leaving the garden after 17:00 adds evening garden admission.

Does Hakone Freepass include Open-Air Museum admission?

No. Museum admission is separate. Course subtotals use the 2,000-yen adult same-day ticket; choosing the 1,800-yen general online ticket changes actual spending.
