Day 1: Bandai Bridge and riverside walk
Walk Bandai Bridge and the riverside at leisure on arrival day, then stay near Niigata Station.

- Bandai City → Bandai Bridge and Yasuragitei
Continue towards Bandai Bridge and Yasuragitei. The official section takes about five minutes. Choose how far to walk on the bridge and riverside around arrival time and weather.
- Bandai Bridge and Yasuragitei → Niigata Station to booked hotel
Retrace your walk towards Bandai City to Niigata Station, then go to your hotel. Official city guidance gives about 15 minutes from riverside to station, excluding food, shopping and crossing waits.

Day 2: Yoshida transfer and Yahiko Shrine
Explore Yahiko Shrine’s grounds beyond torii and stone bridge, then return to your Niigata hotel. Transfer trains at Yoshida, visit the shrine and have lunch before returning to Yahiko Station.

Go from your booked hotel to Niigata Station; Hotel Mets guests can use the west-side connecting passage. Choose a Yoshida-bound JR Echigo Line train. Yahiko JR return fares are outside the subtotal; check ticket coverage before use.

Take the Echigo Line to Yoshida. Check the travel-date JR guidance for your Yahiko train’s departure platform.

Use stairs and connecting passages shown on the station map to reach the Yahiko platform. Station guidance lists no lift or escalator; ask JR about alternatives if stairs are difficult.

- Yoshida Station Yahiko platform → Yahiko Station
Take a Yahiko-bound JR Yahiko Line train and get off at Yahiko. If your previous train is late, check the next connection.
- Yahiko Station → First shrine torii, worship hall and grounds
Official guidance gives about 1 km/15 minutes on foot from Yahiko Station to the shrine. Pass the first torii, stone bridge, second torii and Zuishinmon to worship in front of the hall and explore the grounds. Meals and visiting time are extra to the walk.
- Yahiko Station → Yoshida transfer to Niigata Station
After shrine and village visits, return to Yahiko Station and take a train to Yoshida. Also get off at Yoshida if boarding towards Higashi-Sanjo. Transfer to Niigata-bound Echigo Line. Ropeway, summit and paid Treasure Hall are outside this course.

Yoshida transfers use stairs. Allow station-return time after shrine visits and lunch; check travel-date return services/fares with JR. Ask the shrine about ordinary grounds-worship fees and access hours, planning walks in daylight. Treasure Hall, prayers and ropeway are excluded.
Day 3: Marinepia Nihonkai
Observe marine life in the Sea of Japan tank and penguin displays. Indoor exhibits can be visited on rainy days too.
- Niigata Station stand 9 → C22 to Suizokukan-mae
Take C22 towards Suizokukan-mae from Niigata terminal stand 9 to its terminus for 260 yen per adult. Check Niigata-bound return times before setting your visit length.
- Suizokukan-mae stop → Front entrance, exhibits and food
Buy ordinary adult admission for 1,500 yen at the front ticket office. Normal hours are 09:00–17:00, ticket sales until 16:30. Visit the large tank and indoor exhibits, allowing lunch/breaks; choose shows from same-day guidance. Food and extra activities are separate.

- Aquarium exit to Suizokukan-mae stop → C22 to Niigata, then same hotel
Take Niigata-bound C22 from Suizokukan-mae. Add bus waits and the stop walk to visiting time, then return to the same hotel to rest.

If the aquarium closes, use the observation-deck/market course instead. If only shows are cancelled, focus on exhibitions. Check closures and show times through the facility link in attraction guidance.
Day 4: observation deck and Pia Bandai
Combine city views and market lunch. Walk to the market after the observation deck, then return by station-bound bus.

Take a Sado Kisen-bound bus via Toki Messe from terminal stand 17, getting off at Toki Messe. The adult one-way fare is 260 yen. Use the second-floor pedestrian passage inside the terminal to reach the stand.

Cross the plaza to Bandaijima Building’s Hotel Nikko Niigata/office entrance. Take the direct observation-deck lift from the ground floor to floor 31, distinguishing hotel/office lifts. Ordinary entry is free; normal hours are 08:00–22:00, with last admission at 21:30. Private bookings and events may shorten hours or close access.

Go to your next train’s gates and platform. Allow walking time inside the station between bus arrival and train departure.

Day 2: Niigata Port to Ryotsu accommodation
Cross to Sado by ferry and stay in Ryotsu. Allow time for port arrival, tickets/boarding and hotel access after disembarking.

Take a Sado Kisen-bound bus via Toki Messe from Niigata terminal stand 17, getting off at Sado Kisen. The adult one-way fare is 260 yen. Choose services in the official timetable below, leaving procedural time after port arrival.

- Sado Kisen stop → Passenger terminal and boarding procedures
Walk to the terminal for tickets and boarding procedures. The bus operator advises finishing procedures at least 30 minutes before sailing. The ferry operator distinguishes port-arrival advice: arrival about 10–20 minutes before sailing for digital tickets, or 30–40 minutes before sailing for counter or ticket-machine purchases. Allow extra time according to your purchase method.
- Niigata Port: second-class car ferry → Ryotsu ferry terminal
Take a second-class Ryotsu car ferry to Sado. Sailing takes about two hours 30 minutes. Check date-specific fares in course costs and ferry guidance below. Port buses, tickets, waits and disembarkation are extra to sailing time. Onboard restaurants may not operate; check same-day guidance if planning to eat aboard.

- Ryotsu ferry terminal → Ryotsu accommodation
Walk from Ryotsu Port to the example accommodation, Guesthouse Zink. Its guidance gives about four minutes from the terminal.
- Guesthouse Zink → Port side of Lake Kamo, then same hotel
Take a light walk along Lake Kamo’s Ryotsu-port side, then return to the same hotel. The tourism guide’s three minutes from port stop to lake does not cover a lap of the lake. Rest around the port today; there is no mine visit.
For a port-area stay, consider Zink, about four minutes on foot from the terminal. For another hotel, check its own route from the port.
Day 3: mine day trip and Ryotsu stay
Walk mine tunnels and see mining exhibits today. Return by bus to your Ryotsu hotel for another night, then take the Niigata ferry the next day.
- Ryotsu Port Sado Kisen stop → Main Line bus to Sado Kinzan-mae
Take a Main Line bus bound for Sado Kinzan-mae from Ryotsu Port’s Sado Kisen stop to its terminus. Not every Main Line service reaches the mine; check the destination. The adult fare for the direct journey is 860 yen one way.

- Sado Kinzan-mae → Mine entrance beside bus stop and admission
Go to the mine entrance beside the stop and follow ticket/admission guidance. The ordinary Sado mine course costs 1,500 yen for junior-high age and above, with a suggested visit of 60–90 minutes. April–October entry starts 08:00, last entry 16:00, closing 17:30; November–March entry starts 08:30, last entry 15:30, closing 17:00. There are stairs; check notices for repair-related or other access changes before visiting.

- Sado Kinzan-mae to Aikawa transfer → Ryotsu Port and same island hotel
Take a bus from the mine to Aikawa, then transfer towards Ryotsu Port. Adult fares are 260 yen and 860 yen, totalling 1,120 yen. Choose both return services before starting your visit. Stay another Ryotsu night and take the ferry the next day.

Day 4: Ryotsu Port to Niigata Station
Return from Ryotsu to Niigata today. Check hotel-to-port access and Niigata port-to-station transport together with your ferry.

On island departure day, keep to port food/rest rather than adding distant sights. Choose the Niigata station-bound bus alongside ferry arrival.
Included: Niigata port-bus return 520 yen + second-class ferry return 7,260 + Ryotsu–mine bus 860 + ordinary mine course 1,500 + mine–Aikawa–Ryotsu return buses 1,120.

Costs assume one ordinary adult. Mine return buses total 1,120 yen over two rides: 260 to Aikawa and 860 to Ryotsu Port. Ferry return totals 7,260 yen from two 3,630-yen second-class fares for 1 October–31 December 2026, including fuel adjustment. Check seasonal mine-bus operation in linked timetables. Ferry luggage with combined three-side dimensions over two metres costs an extra 600 yen per item each way.

Frequently asked questions
Do I take the Niigata ferry immediately after mine day?
With two Ryotsu nights, return to the hotel by bus after visiting the mine, then take the ferry to Niigata the next day. Allow port food/rest time on ferry-return day and choose the Niigata port-to-station bus too.

Are mine and island-bus times the same in winter?
Mine entry is 08:00–16:00, closing 17:30 April–October; 08:30–15:30, closing 17:00 November–March. Island-bus examples use 1 April–30 November 2026 weekdays. For December onwards or weekends/public holidays, check that date’s return timetable too.
