Two nights in Niigata: Yahiko or Sado?
Stay two nights in the same Niigata hotel for shrine and aquarium. For ferry, port and lakeside walks, split nights between Niigata and Ryotsu. Transfer trains at Yoshida for Yahiko; board ferries at Niigata Port for Sado. With one Ryotsu night, stay around the port. For the mine too, choose three nights with two in Ryotsu.

Day 1: Bandai Bridge and riverside walk
Walk Bandai Bridge and the riverside at leisure on arrival day, then stay near Niigata Station.

Walk towards Media Ship. The first section in the official city walking course is about 10 minutes. Pass the building towards the river; this is not an indoor building visit.

Walk to Bandai City. The official city course suggests about one minute for this section. Add separate time and costs for food or shopping.
- Bandai City → Bandai Bridge and Yasuragitei
Continue towards Bandai Bridge and Yasuragitei. The official section takes about five minutes. Choose how far to walk on the bridge and riverside around arrival time and weather.
- Bandai Bridge and Yasuragitei → Niigata Station to booked hotel
Retrace your walk towards Bandai City to Niigata Station, then go to your hotel. Official city guidance gives about 15 minutes from riverside to station, excluding food, shopping and crossing waits.

Day 2: Yoshida transfer and Yahiko Shrine
Explore Yahiko Shrine’s grounds beyond torii and stone bridge, then return to your Niigata hotel. Transfer trains at Yoshida, visit the shrine and have lunch before returning to Yahiko Station.
- Same hotel → Niigata Station Echigo Line platform
Go from your booked hotel to Niigata Station; Hotel Mets guests can use the west-side connecting passage. Choose a Yoshida-bound JR Echigo Line train. Yahiko JR return fares are outside the subtotal; check ticket coverage before use.

- Niigata Station Echigo Line platform → Yoshida Station
Take the Echigo Line to Yoshida. Check the travel-date JR guidance for your Yahiko train’s departure platform.
- Yoshida Station → Yahiko-bound platform
Use stairs and connecting passages shown on the station map to reach the Yahiko platform. Station guidance lists no lift or escalator; ask JR about alternatives if stairs are difficult.

- Yoshida Station Yahiko platform → Yahiko Station
Take a Yahiko-bound JR Yahiko Line train and get off at Yahiko. If your previous train is late, check the next connection.
- Yahiko Station → First shrine torii, worship hall and grounds
Official guidance gives about 1 km/15 minutes on foot from Yahiko Station to the shrine. Pass the first torii, stone bridge, second torii and Zuishinmon to worship in front of the hall and explore the grounds. Meals and visiting time are extra to the walk.
- Yahiko Station → Yoshida transfer to Niigata Station
After shrine and village visits, return to Yahiko Station and take a train to Yoshida. Also get off at Yoshida if boarding towards Higashi-Sanjo. Transfer to Niigata-bound Echigo Line. Ropeway, summit and paid Treasure Hall are outside this course.

Yoshida transfers use stairs. Allow station-return time after shrine visits and lunch; check travel-date return services/fares with JR. Ask the shrine about ordinary grounds-worship fees and access hours, planning walks in daylight. Treasure Hall, prayers and ropeway are excluded.
Day 3: Marinepia Nihonkai
Observe marine life in the Sea of Japan tank and penguin displays. Indoor exhibits can be visited on rainy days too.
- Niigata Station stand 9 → C22 to Suizokukan-mae
Take C22 towards Suizokukan-mae from bus terminal stand 9 to its terminus. Adults pay 260 yen one way. If leaving today, choose your return service before setting visiting time.

- Suizokukan-mae stop → Front ticket office to visiting entrance
Enter through the front entrance, buy tickets beside the museum shop and go to the visiting entrance. Ordinary adult admission is 1,500 yen; normal hours are 09:00–17:00, ticket sales until 16:30.
- Aquarium visiting entrance → Exhibits, lunch and rest
Explore the Sea of Japan tank and indoor displays, then have lunch and rest. Continue to penguin/marine-animal areas. Choose shows from same-day guidance; food and extra activities are not included in admission.

- Suizokukan-mae stop → C22 to Niigata Station
Take Niigata-bound C22 from Suizokukan-mae. Add bus waits and the walk to the stop to your visiting time.
- Niigata Station → Onward train gates and platform
Go to your next train’s gates and platform. Allow walking time inside the station between bus arrival and train departure.

If the aquarium closes, use the observation-deck/market course instead. If only shows are cancelled, focus on exhibitions. Check closures and show times through the facility link in attraction guidance.
Included: Marinepia Nihonkai ordinary admission 1,500 yen + C22 Niigata Station–Suizokukan-mae return 520 yen.
Extra costs and conditions: Niigata–Yoshida–Yahiko JR return fares, accommodation, food, offerings, paid activities and long-distance travel.
This ordinary-adult subtotal includes only aquarium-day admission and C22 return buses. Yahiko JR return fares are extra; check travel-date fares through the linked JR search. No sightseeing-loop day-pass discount is applied.

Day 2: Niigata Port to Ryotsu accommodation
Cross to Sado by ferry and stay in Ryotsu. Allow time for port arrival, tickets/boarding and hotel access after disembarking.

Take a Sado Kisen-bound bus via Toki Messe from Niigata terminal stand 17, getting off at Sado Kisen. The adult one-way fare is 260 yen. Choose services in the official timetable below, leaving procedural time after port arrival.

- Sado Kisen stop → Passenger terminal and boarding procedures
Walk to the terminal for tickets and boarding procedures. The bus operator advises finishing procedures at least 30 minutes before sailing. The ferry operator distinguishes port-arrival advice: arrival about 10–20 minutes before sailing for digital tickets, or 30–40 minutes before sailing for counter or ticket-machine purchases. Allow extra time according to your purchase method.
- Niigata Port: second-class car ferry → Ryotsu ferry terminal
Take a second-class Ryotsu car ferry to Sado. Sailing takes about two hours 30 minutes. Check date-specific fares in course costs and ferry guidance below. Port buses, tickets, waits and disembarkation are extra to sailing time. Onboard restaurants may not operate; check same-day guidance if planning to eat aboard.

- Ryotsu ferry terminal → Ryotsu accommodation
Walk from Ryotsu Port to the example accommodation, Guesthouse Zink. Its guidance gives about four minutes from the terminal.
- Guesthouse Zink → Port side of Lake Kamo, then same hotel
Take a light walk along Lake Kamo’s Ryotsu-port side, then return to the same hotel. The tourism guide’s three minutes from port stop to lake does not cover a lap of the lake. Rest around the port today; there is no mine visit.
For a port-area stay, consider Zink, about four minutes on foot from the terminal. For another hotel, check its own route from the port.
Day 3: Ryotsu Port to Niigata
Go from your hotel to Ryotsu Port today. For the mine too, see three nights B with two Ryotsu nights.

Go from your Ryotsu hotel to the terminal. The example Zink gives about four minutes on foot. Allow procedural time according to official boarding guidance.
- Ryotsu Port → Port shops, food and boarding procedures
Eat and rest at port shops, then finish boarding procedures. Digital tickets and counter/machine purchases have different arrival advice; follow the official guidance below.

Return on a Niigata-bound second-class car ferry. Allow disembarkation and port-bus waits beyond the two-hour-30-minute sailing, leaving time for your departure after Niigata Station.
- After Niigata disembarkation → Sado Kisen station-bound stop
Walk to the regular Niigata-bound Sado Kisen stop. Distinguish Prefectural Office-bound services and temporary event boarding points.
- Sado Kisen station-bound stop → Bus to Niigata Station
Take a Niigata-bound bus from Sado Kisen for 260 yen per adult. If ferry delays or disembarkation cause you to miss it, choose the next service in the travel-date timetable.

On island departure day, keep to port food/rest rather than adding distant sights. Choose the Niigata station-bound bus alongside ferry arrival.
Included: Niigata Station–Sado Kisen bus return 520 yen + Niigata–Ryotsu second-class ferry return 7,260 yen.
Extra costs and conditions: Two nights’ accommodation, food, long-distance travel, oversized luggage, vehicles, higher cabins and jetfoil.
Costs assume one ordinary adult travelling without a car. Port buses are 260 yen each way; second-class ferry is calculated at 3,630 yen each way for 1 October–31 December 2026, including fuel adjustment. This course excludes mine admission and island buses because it does not visit the mine. Luggage with combined three-side dimensions over two metres costs 600 yen per item each way; check travel-date operation and ticket conditions.

Is Yahiko direct from Niigata?
Transfer to the JR Yahiko Line at Yoshida using station stairs/passages. Ask JR about alternatives if stairs are difficult. Check travel-date returns/platforms with JR; the shrine is about 1 km/15 minutes from Yahiko Station.

Does the two-night Sado course include the mine?
One night each in Niigata and Ryotsu excludes mine and island buses. The 7,780-yen subtotal covers only second-class ferry return 7,260 plus Niigata port-bus return 520. For the mine, compare the three-night course with two Ryotsu nights.
