In Atami, explore Kiunkaku’s historic villa and gardens or Kinomiya’s large camphor tree. For paintings, check date-specific exhibitions at Shizuoka City Museum of Art or MOA. Choose Sun Beach for coastal walks, or Sunpu Castle Park for history displays inside restored gates and turrets.

Nihondaira Yume Terrace

Nihondaira Yume Terrace’s viewing walkway overlooks Mt. Fuji, Suruga Bay and Shimizu Port. Walk it for sea views, though clouds may hide Mt. Fuji. The outdoor walkway is free; building exhibitions and observation floors require paid admission.
- AdmissionFrom 1 October 2026: general/high-school admission 100 yen, elementary/junior-high students 50, preschool children free. The outdoor viewing walkway is free.
- HoursThe building opens Sunday–Friday 09:00–17:00 and Saturday 09:00–21:00, last admission 30 minutes before closing. Closed the second Tuesday, or next weekday when that is a public holiday, plus year-end closures. The walkway is available all day.
- Getting thereTake a bus from Shizuoka Station to the Nihondaira Ropeway terminus. The official website gives three minutes on foot from terrace to ropeway. Follow summit terrace signs along the connection and allow meals/waiting separately. Higashi-Shizuoka Station is a different starting point.

Kunozan Toshogu Shrine
久能山東照宮
At Kunozan Toshogu, see vivid colours and carvings on National Treasure shrine buildings dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu. Add shrine architecture to Nihondaira views. Even after the ropeway, about 80 steps lead to the buildings; return by ropeway from Kunozan Station too. Shrine admission and ropeway fares are separate.
- AdmissionHigh-school students and older: shrine 700 yen, museum 600, combined 1,200. Elementary/junior-high students: shrine 300, museum 300, combined 500. Ropeway costs extra.
- Hours09:00–17:00, reception until 16:50, open year-round. Check museum and special-event notices separately. Nihondaira Ropeway plans suspension for equipment works on 1–21 December 2026. Do not use this ropeway route during that period.
- Getting thereDescend from Nihondaira to Kunozan Station by ropeway. The one-way ride takes about five minutes, followed by about 80 steps to the shrine buildings. Return by ropeway too. Basic first departure from Nihondaira is 09:10; last return from Kunozan is 17:00. Check notices for your date.

Kiunkaku
起雲閣
Visit Kiunkaku for historic Atami villa architecture. Explore Japanese-style buildings, Western-style rooms combining Japanese, Chinese and European decoration, and gardens. Plan around Wednesday closure and public-holiday opening exceptions.

- Hours09:00–17:00, last admission 16:30. Closed Wednesdays except public holidays, and 26–30 December.
- Getting thereFacility tourism guidance gives about 20 minutes on foot from Atami Station. By bus, use specified Izuhakone services from stands 1 or 2 to Kiunkaku-mae. Official guidance gives about 10 minutes aboard, with the facility directly by the stop. Not all buses stop here; check destinations and returns. Bus fares are excluded from this walking route’s costs.

Kinomiya Shrine
來宮神社
See the large camphor tree up close and walk Kinomiya Shrine’s grounds. Stories about the tree are shrine traditions, not promises of health or fulfilled wishes. During construction, enter via the approach through the large front torii. Ask on-site staff for guidance if you need to avoid main-hall steps.
- AdmissionOfficial information does not separately list an ordinary-worship admission fee. Check fees for your visiting date. Prayers, amulets, cafes and parking each have separate conditions.
- HoursThe shrine’s official access guide lists worship hours of 09:00–17:00 and prayer reception until 16:30. Recheck events and construction notices for your date.
- Getting thereOfficial shrine guidance gives about 1.6 km or 18 minutes on foot from Atami Station. By bus, check times and fares to the shrine-front stop and back to the station separately. The tourism association’s approximately 15-minute bus ride is a different mode from the 18-minute walk.

Atami Sun Beach

Choose Atami Sun Beach for seaside walking between building visits. This is a sandy-beach and coastal walk, without water-play facilities. For summer swimming, check the relevant year’s season and conditions separately.
- AdmissionThe sandy beach and coast can be used for walks. Water park, rentals, lockers and parking are separate and excluded from this route. Do not apply summer water-play fees to ordinary walks.
- HoursThe 2026 swimming season runs 11 July–30 August, with swimming 09:00–16:00. Night lighting runs sunset–22:00, switched off for fireworks events. The swimming season is separate from coastal walking.

Shizuoka City Museum of Art

See the exhibition for your date near Shizuoka Station. The Renoir special exhibition runs only 22 September–15 November 2026. This is a different facility from the prefectural art museum.

- Getting thereOfficial guidance gives about three minutes via the underground passage from JR Shizuoka Station’s north exit. Head to the third-floor exhibition entrance in Aoi Tower.

Sunpu Castle Park

For Sunpu Castle history, explore displays inside restored Higashigomon Gate and Tatsumi Yagura. Park walks are free; indoor exhibitions require paid admission.

MOA Museum of Art

Enjoy art exhibitions at MOA Museum of Art; performances and other programmes are separate choices with their own reservation conditions. After the bus, escalators still take you up to the main building.
- AdmissionGeneral adult admission is 2,000 yen. Return buses to/from Atami Station cost 200 each, bringing the total to 2,400.

- Getting thereTake a MOA-bound bus from Atami Station stand 8, about seven minutes to the terminus. Choose outward and station-bound return services together in the official timetable for your date. M-marked services do not run on museum closing days. Buy your ticket at the escalator entrance opposite the stop. Eight escalator sections take about 10 minutes to Mua Square, then continue to the main-building entrance. Ticket purchase and queues are additional.

Ropeway suspension: 1–21 December 2026
Nihondaira Ropeway plans suspension for equipment works. During this period, the ropeway route to and from Kunozan Toshogu is unavailable. Even for terrace views alone, check buses and terrace opening separately.

Is Nihondaira Yume Terrace free?
The outdoor viewing walkway is free. From 1 October 2026, building viewpoints cost 100 yen general/high-school admission or 50 for elementary/junior-high students. Checked 8 October 2026.
Does the ropeway avoid the Toshogu stairs?
About 80 steps still lead from Kunozan Station to the shrine buildings. The approximately five-minute one-way ride excludes stairs, ticketing and queues. Return down the steps to Kunozan Station for the ropeway. No walking connection links Nihondaira and Kunozan. If stairs would be difficult, choose terrace views without a shrine return trip. Are MOA exhibition rooms directly at the bus stop?
Buy a ticket at the escalator entrance opposite the terminus, then follow eight escalator sections for about 10 minutes to Mua Square and continue to the main entrance. This is additional to the approximately seven-minute ride from Atami Station stand 8. Allow time to descend from exhibition rooms to the stop and wait for the return bus.
