Visit Kintaikyo and Kikko Park from Iwakuni Station, then return to the station.

From Iwakuni stand 1, take a Kintaikyo-bound bus. Routes 11/21 via Muronoki (室の木) cost adults 300 yen one way, 600 return. Walk about one minute from Kintaikyo (錦帯橋) stop to the bridge entrance. Do not apply this fare to other routings.

Use the adult 500-yen bridge return ticket to cross the river, then walk about five minutes to Kikko Park. Official park guidance suggests about 30 minutes; allow a suggested 90–120 minutes for the bridge, park and lunch together. Ropeway and castle admission are extra.

Day 2: Iwakuni → Shin-Yamaguchi → Akiyoshi-do return
Move from Iwakuni to Shin-Yamaguchi and make a return trip to Akiyoshi-do.

Reach Shin-Yamaguchi by JR from Iwakuni, then take an Akiyoshi-do bus from north-side terminal stand 2. Sanyo Main Line local trains and Shinkansen from Shin-Iwakuni have different departure stations and fares. Use official searches to connect JR with cave buses both ways. If viewing and lunch leave too little time, move the cave to the final day and adjust your onward departure too.

From Akiyoshi-do bus stop, walk through the shops to the front entrance. Follow the standard visitor passage, then retrace your route to the same entrance. Official viewing guidance suggests about 90 minutes; allow entrance access and lunch separately.

Day 3: Shin-Yamaguchi → Yamaguchi → Rurikoji → station
Travel from Shin-Yamaguchi via Yamaguchi to Rurikoji, then return to the station.

Take a Yamaguchi-bound local JR Yamaguchi Line train from Shin-Yamaguchi to Yamaguchi Station. City tourism guidance gives a reference ride of about 25 minutes. Check Yamaguchi Station, Ichinosaka River and Kozan Park on the official city map, then walk about 25 minutes to Rurikoji. Choose a return train before setting out, allowing the walk back to the station.

Travel from Shimonoseki Station via Mimosusogawa for a return tunnel walk.

Connect JR arrival at Shin-Yamaguchi with cave buses both ways. Allow about 90 minutes for the return cave walk plus entrance access, lunch and bus waits. For a late arrival, move the cave to the final day and adjust onward departures too. Adult local Iwakuni–Shin-Yamaguchi fare 1,690 yen is included; Bocho return buses are extra.

How should I split market, tunnel and shrine visits from Shimonoseki?
The two-night Shimonoseki course gives market, tunnel and Akama Shrine a day each. If only Day 2 fits the event, swap market/tunnel order. After the final-day Treasure Hall visit, return on a station-bound bus from the shrine-front stop. Check that stop’s actual return time.
