Hanamaki Airport to Morioka and Hanamaki
If you are staying near Morioka Station, use the airport bus. The bus journey takes about 45 minutes, and the one-way fare for adults is 1,500 yen. For central Hanamaki, take the city bus to Hanamaki Station. For the Shinkansen or a confirmed hotel shuttle from Shin-Hanamaki, choose the bus to Shin-Hanamaki Station instead. Hanamaki Airport Station is a separate station located approximately 4km from the terminal.

Where do I buy a ticket and board after leaving arrivals?
- After completing immigration and baggage pickup, exit to the arrival lobby on the 1st floor. Choose your actual destination among Morioka, Hanamaki Station, or Shin-Hanamaki Station.
- For Morioka-bound, inquire about time and payment at the airport bus information centre, then go to platform 2 outside the terminal. Boarding is on a first-come, first-served basis without reservations, and seats are not guaranteed.
- Osako-Hanamaki city buses bound for Hanamaki Station and Shin-Hanamaki Station. Check the location of the airport stop in that direction at the general information centre on the first floor, and compare the vehicle destination and departure time. Check the airport on-site information for bus stop numbers for this route. Be careful not to follow the bus stop numbers for other destinations.
- Taxis go to the official pick-up point outside the terminal, and hire cars go to the hire car counter on the first floor near the arrival lobby. When booking a vehicle, check the meeting location and vehicle information of the company you reserved.

Payment on the Morioka Airport Bus is cash or transport IC card. Tap your IC card when boarding and again when getting off. The airport bus information centre also offers credit card, electronic money, and QR payment, but these should not be considered as on-board card payments. Payment on board city buses is cash, transport IC, and PayPay based on airport information.
Take out valuables, breakable items, and power banks from the luggage in the bus trunk and bring them with you. Please note that the Morioka Airport bus cannot accept skis, snowboards, or folding bicycles.

Hanamaki’s four stations and access to hotels
① Morioka Station · 盛岡駅
The airport bus arrives at drop-off point 6 at the East Exit. If you are staying on the east side of the station, find walking directions by your accommodation name. If you are staying on the west side, follow the signs for the east-west corridor and west exit of the station.
Cross-station time and elevator travel are not included in the 45-minute bus ride. If the suitcase is large, you can also take a taxi to the entrance of the accommodation.
The bus returning to the airport is at bus stop 8 on the east side. Do not confuse with number 6 on arrival. This airport bus does not serve Morioka Bus Centre.
To find the exact route to your accommodation, replace the map destination with the name and address of the accommodation you reserved. This does not indicate which exit is closest to all hotels.
② Hanamaki Station · 花巻駅
If you take the city bus to city centre Hanamaki, get off at number 2 in front of Hanamaki Station in about 17 minutes. This station is a station on the JR Tohoku Main Line and Kamaishi Line, and is not a Shinkansen station.
If you are staying in the city, use this station as your starting point and find a walking or taxi route to your accommodation address. Hot spring transfers departing from the station are separately based on the meeting location of the hotel you have booked.
Find the route to your accommodation on the Hanamaki Station map ↗③ Shin-Hanamaki Station · 新花巻駅
If you take a city bus bound for Shin-Hanamaki from the airport, get off at number 5 in front of Shin-Hanamaki Station in about 13 minutes. There are 4 different stops in the return direction. The Shinkansen and Kamaishi Line are at the same station but have separate platforms, so follow the signs for the train you want to use when you arrive.
If you want to take the Shinkansen to Morioka, you must first search for the trains that actually stop at this station and their departure times. In addition to the ticket, a Shinkansen limited express ticket is required, and the 480 yen price for the airport bus does not include the train fare. Hotel Hanamaki drop-off is at number 3 west, which is separate from city bus stop number 5.
④ Hanamaki Airport Station · 花巻空港駅
It is a separate station about 4km away from the terminal. Take the airport bus for about 7 minutes (340 yen) or take a taxi and transfer to the JR Tohoku Main Line toward Morioka. When the airport bus stops at this station, you can only get off in the Morioka direction and board the bus in the airport direction.
Do not choose to walk from the airport terminal and take the train straight away. Check the bus and train times separately and add transfer waiting times. If you are staying near Morioka Station, it is better to continue taking the bus to the station, so there are fewer transfers.
⑤ Hotel Hanamaki · ホテル花巻: When making a reservation for a shuttle
This guide is based on the actual accommodation ‘Hotel Hanamaki’. Hanamaki Onsen · 花巻温泉 and other hotels in Hanamaki Onsen Village are not all bundled into the same free shuttle.
- Departure from Shin-Hanamaki Station: 15:00, 16:10, 17:15 from West Exit 3, approximately 30 minutes. Exit the station, go west, past the taxi area and look for number 3.
- Departure from Hanamaki Station: 15:15, 16:15 from the East Exit, approximately 20 minutes. Do not assume that city bus number 2 is the pick-up stop, but receive the meeting location when making a reservation.
- Hotel shuttle departures from the station require a reservation: If there is no reservation, the service will not operate. The deadline for bulk reservations is not indicated on the official page, so it is not set as ‘the day before’. After making a reservation, inform the hotel of your arrival station, time, number of people, luggage, and contact information to confirm the transfer.
- Airport departure: Scheduled at 18:00 on Wednesdays and Saturdays, approximately 15 minutes. You will be asked to wait in the arrival lobby. There may be delays depending on flight conditions. Check with the hotel you have booked about who can use this service and how to apply in advance. This is not a common airport shuttle that runs daily.
Reservation/transfer inquiries: 0198-37-2111 (9:00~18:00). If your flight is delayed, please reschedule your booked transfer and check-in time. The hotel does not inform you of unlimited waiting. 0198-37-2111
If you take a taxi directly, the airport's official guide to the Hanamaki Onsen area estimates it to be about 15 minutes and 3,800 yen. Please ask the dispatch company for a confirmed fare to Hotel Hanamaki. You can distinguish it from other lodgings in the hot spring area by providing the address ‘1-125 Yumoto, Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture’ and the hotel name.
Check with each hotel for other hot spring hotels. Starting in September 2026, the tourism association will provide shuttle service for guests staying at some southern hot springs at 100 yen per person for ages 3 and older. Don't assume the entire area is free or even day visitors can ride. - If you become aware of a delay, contact the bus information office and the hotel you have booked. Arrange any hotel pick-up and late check-in directly with your hotel.
- Buses and taxis may be delayed due to snow, icy roads, and traffic congestion. Also check JR for service changes and don't be too tight on connecting trains.
- If public transport has stopped running, check the dispatch and total amount at the official taxi stand or reservation company. We do not guarantee that overnight vehicles will always be available.
- If travel is difficult due to service interruption, etc., please discuss schedule changes with your accommodation. When travelling alone and late, use official information centres and pick-up points and avoid unofficial vehicles offered by strangers.

Hanamaki Airport transfer, frequently asked questions
Can I go directly from Hanamaki Airport to Morioka Station?
The airport bus to Morioka takes about 45 minutes and costs 1,500 yen one way for adults. Take the bus from bus stop 2 at the airport and get off at bus stop 6 on the east side of Morioka Station. It is not a reservation system, but a first-come, first-served basis, and you may not be able to ride if all seats are filled.
Is Hanamaki Airport Station inside the airport terminal?
No. Hanamaki Airport Station is a separate JR station located approximately 4km from the terminal. You need to take the airport bus for about 7 minutes/340 yen or take a taxi. At this station, you can transfer to the JR Tohoku Main Line bound for Morioka; JR fares are separate.
Should I go to Hanamaki Station or Shin-Hanamaki Station?
If you want to use hotels in Hanamaki city and the JR Tohoku Main Line, choose Hanamaki Station, or if you want to take the Shinkansen, choose Shin-Hanamaki Station. There is also a Kamaishi Line at Shinhanamaki Station, but the two stations are different. For hotel transfers, check the departure station and time you reserved.
How much is the bus fare from the airport to Hanamaki Station or Shin-Hanamaki Station?
The Osako-Hanamaki city bus runs from the airport to Hanamaki Station for 410 yen per adult, approximately 17 minutes, and to Shin-Hanamaki Station is 480 yen, approximately 13 minutes. The route and operator are different from the Morioka Airport Bus, and the timetables on weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays are also different.
What time is the last bus after arriving at Hanamaki Airport?
The last scheduled departure of the airport bus to Morioka is at 18:25 from October 1 to 24, 2026, and at 18:20 from October 25 to November 30. The last city bus to Hanamaki Station is at 15:28 on weekdays and 14:28 on weekends and holidays, and the last stop for Shin-Hanamaki Station is at 16:14 every day. Date changes and flight delays must be checked against the official timetable.
If my flight is delayed, will the airport bus wait for me?
The departure of the Morioka Airport bus may be delayed depending on the arrival status of the connecting flight. The bus is coordinated with arriving flights, but this does not mean unlimited waiting or guaranteed seating. The same conditions do not automatically apply to city buses and hotel transfers.
Do all Hanamaki Onsen hotels offer free airport transfers?
No. Free shuttle service from Hanamaki Onsen, where Hotel Hanamaki is located, is scheduled for 18:00 on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Check with the hotel you booked for information on accommodation and boarding methods. Hotel shuttles departing from the station require an advance booking and will not operate without a reservation. You should not assume that other hot spring hotels have the same conditions.
Can I use a credit card or transport IC card on the airport bus?
Cash and transport IC cards can be used on the Morioka Airport Bus. Touch the IC card each time you board and disembark. Distinguish between credit card, electronic money, and QR payments at the airport bus information centre and on-board payments. For city buses, cash, transport IC, and PayPay on-board payment are indicated in the airport information.
How do I get around if it snows or I miss the last departure?
In winter, check first for bus delays and train service changes. The last departure to Morioka from Hanamaki Airport Station in the JR timetable for October 2026 is 22:12, but that doesn't mean there will be a bus from the airport to the station at that time. Check the dispatch/rate of taxis or reserved vehicles and the check-in time at your accommodation, and if it is difficult to travel, adjust your schedule with your accommodation.
