Australia to Japan flights: counters, flight numbers and disruption steps
Choose your departure airport or operating airline to find the right starting point. Each guide keeps three things separate: the planned flight number, the day-of counter, and the official delay or cancellation document. That matters when a codeshare or a last-minute change appears on your booking.
Direct passenger routes checked on 2 October 2026: ANA, JAL and Qantas (full-service carriers), plus Jetstar Airways (low-cost carrier). Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Cairns connect to Haneda, Narita, Kansai and seasonal Sapporo New Chitose: 9 airport pairs and 13 airline–route guides. Planned numbers have been checked for the non-seasonal routes; Sapporo’s seasonal number requires a booking-date check.
Find your flight, counter and document guide
Search an operating number in either direction. The guide shows the route and check-in location; open the airline’s official search for your travel date’s times and status.
Choose airports or an airline without entering a number to browse checked services in either direction. Spaces and leading zeros are accepted. The date is a reminder for the official lookup, not a timetable filter: a guide match does not confirm operation on that date. This is not a live status feed.
Airport counter directory: Australia and Japan
Choose your departure airport, then the operating airline. The terminal or floor below is a starting point, not a permanent desk assignment. Use the departure display for your flight number to find today's check-in row; the boarding gate is a different location.

Insurance or disruption evidence ↗A check-in counter can help you with the immediate disruption, but it may not issue the document your insurer needs. ANA and JAL have international certificate services; Qantas and Jetstar have their own document-request paths. Keep the operating number, local departure date, booking reference and airline messages together.
If your flight is delayed or cancelled, use this order
- Match the operating airline and flight number on your booking. A partner or travel-agent code may not be the airline handling you at the airport.
- Open the airline’s official flight-status search, then use the airport departure board to find today’s terminal and counter.
- Ask what is confirmed: revised time, rebooking or refund path, and the plan for checked baggage. Keep any reference number.
- Use the airline’s official certificate or insurance-letter path if you need evidence for an employer or insurer. For delayed, missing or damaged baggage, report it to the operating airline before leaving the airport.

Choose the Australian and Japanese airport
Choose the operating airline as well as the airport pair: airlines on the same route can use different terminals in Japan. Sapporo is a winter seasonal service, not a year-round route. Connecting itineraries, cargo and discontinued services are not listed as current direct passenger routes.

Counters, flight number & disruption steps →If your Japan-to-Australia return flight changes
Keep your passport, booking screen and baggage tag ready. Find the operating flight number on the Japanese airport board, then go to the airline counter shown for that flight. Before changing a hotel, train or separate onward ticket, ask for the revised departure time, rebooking or refund channel, checked-baggage plan, and the certificate or support route that applies to your carrier.
What to ask at the counter
- Which counter is handling this flight now?
- What is the confirmed revised time or alternative flight?
- Who handles a change or refund for this booking?
- Where do I obtain the relevant disruption document?
Useful Japanese to show staff
欠航・遅延の証明書を発行できますか。
Can I obtain a cancellation or delay certificate?
振替便または払い戻しについて教えてください。
Please tell me about an alternative flight or refund.
受託手荷物はどうなりますか。
What will happen to my checked baggage?
A document, rebooking, refund or expense outcome depends on the airline, operating carrier, ticket and reason for the disruption. This guide gives the official path; it does not make a promise about eligibility.
Network sources and travel-date checks
The direct-route list is cross-checked against Tourism Australia, the Australian Government’s international timetable and airline announcements. Connecting itineraries and cargo are outside this passenger guide. A codeshare sold by another carrier is not a separate operating flight. Sapporo is seasonal; the Qantas guide explains the travel-period checks. The airline’s live status and airport board determine your travel-day instructions.
- Tourism Australia: direct Japan–Australia flights ↗ — Direct passenger airport pairs and operating airlines, including Sapporo seasonal service.
- Australian Government: Northern Summer 2026 international timetable ↗ — Japan section: operating carriers distinguished from codeshare marketing carriers.
- Qantas: 2026/27 Sapporo seasonal service ↗ — Sydney–Sapporo seasonal route for December 2026–March 2027.
Questions travellers ask
Where do I find my check-in counter for an Australia to Japan flight?
Start at the international terminal listed for your departure airport, then use the live departure board for your operating flight number. Counter numbers can change by date and flight, so this guide does not publish an unverified permanent desk number.
How do I get a delay or cancellation document for an Australia to Japan flight?
Choose the operating airline first. ANA and JAL publish online international certificate paths for eligible flights. Qantas publishes an insurance-letter and disruption-support request path, while Jetstar publishes an insurance-document request path; ask for the document required for your specific claim. Codeshares can require the operating carrier.
Can a planned flight number tell me whether my flight is running today?
No. The flight number identifies the planned service. Open the airline’s official flight-status search or the airport’s live board on your travel date.
Which Narita terminal do ANA, JAL, Qantas and Jetstar use for Australia flights?
The checked guides list ANA in Terminal 1 South Wing, 4F; JAL and Qantas in Terminal 2, 3F; and Jetstar Airways in Terminal 3, 2F. Confirm your operating carrier and current departure information before travelling. A terminal and floor do not identify the counter row assigned to your flight that day.
Can I search a Japan-to-Australia return flight here?
Yes. Select a Japanese departure airport and an Australian arrival airport, or enter the operating return-flight number, such as JQ10, JL051 or QF60. Results identify the checked route and counter starting point, not live operation or booking availability. Use the departure airport’s local date in the official status search.
