India–Japan flight delays and cancellations: status, certificates and airport counters
Find your operating flight number, check the official status for your departure date, then contact the airline about your next flight or refund. Keep the disruption notice and ask for the document your insurer needs.
Guidance reviewed on . The search below shows published flight numbers, counter guidance and links to the official airport websites. An unavailable search result does not mean a cancellation.
Find your flight, airport counter and certificate
Choose the departure date and direction, then select a flight or search the operating number on your ticket.

If your ticket shows a partner flight number, find “operated by” on the booking. A marketing codeshare number does not add another operating service.
What to do at the airport
- Check the flight number, local departure date and airport code on your ticket. India uses IST (UTC+5:30); Japan uses JST (UTC+9). Japan is 3 hours 30 minutes ahead.
- Open the official airport status search: Haneda international flights or Narita flights. Confirm the status with your airline if the display is missing or inconsistent.
- Ask the operating airline about rebooking, rerouting or a disruption refund before cancelling the booking yourself. Ask who will handle any onward flights and bags.
- If photography is allowed, capture the board’s flight number, status and displayed changed time, the counter sign, and the airline’s app or message notice. Avoid other travellers’ faces and personal details. If photography is prohibited, note the time and wording. These records do not replace an airline certificate. Keep the new itinerary, written notice, case number and itemised receipts. Ask which expenses are authorised before paying for an alternative flight or hotel.
Flight delay compensation, passenger rights and insurance
For an India departure, check the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s Passenger Charter and your airline’s conditions. Assistance and compensation depend on the reason, notice given, waiting time and applicable rules. Start a complaint with the airline and keep the case reference; AirSewa is the government grievance portal.
For a Japan departure, ask the operating airline which conditions apply to your ticket and disruption. A certificate records the event; it does not itself establish a right to a payment.
For travel insurance, ask your insurer about the covered cause, minimum delay, written claim deadline and approved expenses. Save the ticket, boarding pass, airline certificate, PIR if bags are missing, and receipts. No policy has been selected for this guide.
Quick answers
Where can I get a flight delay or cancellation certificate?
Use the operating airline’s official certificate service. ANA and JAL have international certificate searches; Air India calls its document a Flight Disruption Statement. Start with your flight number and local departure date.
Where is my airline’s airport check-in counter?
Select your route and airline for the terminal and floor. Confirm the day’s counter row on the airport display or official flight search. A check-in location is not a confirmed certificate-issuing desk.
Can I get a refund if the airline cancels my India–Japan flight?
Ask the operating airline about disruption refund or rebooking options before selecting voluntary cancellation. If a travel agency issued the ticket, contact it about the refund or reissue. Eligibility depends on the airline’s conditions and applicable passenger rules.
Does a delay certificate guarantee compensation or insurance payment?
No. It records the disruption. Airline compensation and insurance claims have separate eligibility rules, deadlines and required documents. Check the applicable passenger rules and your insurance policy.
Does “no result” mean my flight is cancelled?
No. It may be outside the search window or the feed may be unavailable. Check the date and operating number, then contact the airline.
Can I use a Haneda ticket at Narita?
Check with the airline. HND and NRT are different airports; a replacement must explicitly state the departure airport, transfer arrangements and check-in deadline.
How can I prove my flight was delayed for an insurance claim?
Request the operating airline’s official delay or cancellation document and keep your ticket, boarding pass, disruption notice and itemised receipts. Ask your insurer which documents and delay threshold apply. A photo of the departure board is supporting evidence and does not replace the airline document.
