UNITED STATES ↔ JAPAN

U.S.–Japan routes, airlines and flight numbers

Find your airport pair and flight number, then open the operating airline’s official status page. If your flight is delayed or canceled, check replacement flights, refunds and baggage handling before changing your plans. Both travel directions are listed separately.

Find your U.S. airport and Japan route

Choose the airport code on your ticket. Each route lists flights in both directions, operating airlines and official lookup links. Scheduled flight numbers do not mean the flight is operating today.

This directory is being expanded. ANA and JAL published summer routes are included; other carriers, seasonal services and airport-level cross-checks are not yet complete.

18 U.S. airports · 33 airport pairs in the reviewed records. Guam and Saipan are listed separately as U.S. territories. An airport without a listed route has not been declared to have no service.

Airline-specific routes and disruption help

Choose the operating airline shown on your ticket, rather than a codeshare marketing number.

Coverage still under verification

Delta recurring timetable; American recurring timetable; Alaska / Hawaiian integration and remaining routes; Singapore Airlines recurring timetable; ZIPAIR seasonal San Jose service; United continental U.S. recurring timetable and Kansai service. The absence of a carrier or flight number from this directory is not evidence that it does not operate.

At the airport: four things to ask

  1. Who is operating this flight? Look for “operated by” on the booking. The airline selling the ticket may not be the airline handling the aircraft.
  2. Where should I check in now? Use the departure board and airline staff to confirm the terminal and counter. A gate is not a check-in counter. Do not assume a delay extends your check-in deadline.
  3. What replacement flight is available, and what happens to my bags? Ask whether you need to collect checked bags before leaving the airport.
  4. What has been approved for tonight? Before paying for a hotel or transport, ask what the airline will cover and how to submit receipts.

Photograph the departure board with your flight number, status and revised time visible, and save airline messages. Keep other travelers’ personal information out of the picture. If photography is restricted, write down the time and announcement instead.

Choose between continuing your trip and a refund

A refund returns the ticket price; it is not extra compensation for the disruption. U.S. refund rules cover flights to, from and within the United States. Your passport or the language of this guide does not determine eligibility.

If you still want to travel

Ask for the next available option and its arrival date. Check your hotel and onward train plans before accepting. Taking a replacement flight does not also entitle you to a full-ticket refund under DOT’s disruption rules.

If you no longer want to travel

For an airline cancellation, DOT says a refund is due regardless of the cause if you decline travel and the offered alternatives. Significant itinerary changes can also qualify; for international trips, these include arrival at least six hours later than originally scheduled.

If a travel agency sold your ticket, check who charged your card. The merchant of record is responsible for the airfare refund when due. Keep the cancellation notice and your response to the offer.

Meals, hotels and extra compensation are a separate question

Ask why the flight was disrupted. DOT’s dashboard compares U.S. airlines’ commitments for problems within their control, such as crew or maintenance issues. Those commitments are not a blanket promise for weather delays, and the dashboard does not cover every Japanese airline.

A green check means the airline has made the listed commitment. A red cross means no commitment is shown, not that staff can never offer help. Ask what applies to your flight before spending money.

If your bag is missing or damaged

Delayed bag

Report it to the airline before leaving the airport and get a reference number. Keep your bag tag and a delivery address you can actually use in Japan. Save receipts for necessary purchases; DOT describes reimbursement for reasonable, verifiable incidental expenses, subject to applicable limits.

Damaged or lost bag

Photograph damage and retain the baggage tag. Ask the airline to create a report and explain its written-claim deadline. A bag that has not arrived is not automatically declared lost; follow the airline’s tracing and claim process.

Reporting a problem at the airport and submitting a written claim are separate steps. Do not apply a domestic U.S. compensation limit to an international journey.

Need proof of a delay for travel insurance?

Ask your insurer which documents it requires, what event starts the delay period and whether expenses need approval. Save the booking, boarding pass, airline notice and receipts. A photo of the departure board is useful supporting evidence, not an airline certificate or a promise that insurance will pay.

U.S.–Japan flight disruption questions

Can I get a refund if my flight to Japan is canceled?

For flights to or from the United States, DOT says you are entitled to a refund when the airline cancels and you decline travel, a replacement flight, and other offered alternatives. This applies regardless of the cancellation reason. If you accept and take a replacement flight, the same full-ticket refund does not apply.

Is an international flight delay of six hours enough for a refund?

DOT includes arrival at least six hours later than originally scheduled among significant changes for international itineraries. Other changes can also qualify. Refund eligibility depends on declining the changed flight and other offered alternatives, not simply spending six hours at the airport.

Can I use my ANA flight number to request a certificate for a partner-operated flight?

ANA’s certificate service covers ANA-operated flights, not international codeshares operated by a partner. Check the operating airline on your booking and contact that airline for documentation.
