American Airlines: delayed or canceled U.S.–Japan flights
Open the American app or Your trips to review your replacement flight. Choose another available option if it does not work for you, then check in again for a new boarding pass.
Start with the airline’s official flight information
Use the airline’s Flight Status and Contact American menus. Match the operating airline on your ticket; a JAL marketing number does not establish that JAL operates the aircraft.
This page does not submit a refund claim, retrieve a certificate or confirm live flight status. Ask the airline for the documents and case number required for your situation.
Find your replacement American flight
- If American cancels your flight or a delay makes you miss a connection, it says it will rebook you on the next flight with available seats. Open the American app or Your trips on aa.com to review that itinerary or choose a different flight.
- In the app, open the trip-change banner, select the flight you want and check in again for a new boarding pass. At an airport kiosk, scan your boarding pass or enter the confirmation code to see and change the replacement trip.
- American says it reroutes checked bags when you check in for the new flights. If you are changing airports or taking another airline, ask staff where your bag will go before leaving. For a decision not to travel, use the U.S. refund guidance below rather than treating rebooking as your only option.

Schedule period and official checks →At the counter: replacement flight, bags and documents
Show staff your booking and ask for the replacement flight’s arrival date before accepting it. Confirm whether to collect or transfer checked baggage. For an overnight disruption, ask which hotel, meals and transport are approved before spending money.
If a bag is missing or damaged, report it before leaving the airport, keep the bag tag and obtain a reference number. Ask for the written-claim deadline; this directory has not verified a carrier-specific deadline.
For an insurance claim, request the document your insurer asks for. A screenshot alone is not an airline certificate or a guarantee of reimbursement.

Which American Airlines flight number should I check?
Use the operating flight number and local departure date shown on your booking. A codeshare ticket can display another airline’s marketing number. The route records below are not a live status feed.
Are check-in counters and deadlines confirmed here?
No. Terminal, assigned counter, counter opening time, check-in deadline and boarding deadline need confirmation from the operating airline and airport for your travel date. A delayed departure does not automatically extend check-in.
