Japan Airlines: delayed or canceled U.S.–Japan flights
For a canceled or significantly delayed JAL flight, check Manage booking for a replacement or refund. For proof of the disruption, use JAL’s international certificate search; it excludes flights operated by partner airlines.
Start with the airline’s official flight information
Use JAL’s Flight Status and Help & Contacts menus. If a partner operates the flight, ask that airline for airport handling and documentation.
This page does not submit a refund claim, retrieve a certificate or confirm live flight status. Ask the airline for the documents and case number required for your situation.
Change your JAL flight or get a delay certificate
- For a cancellation or significant delay, open Manage booking from JAL’s disruption guide to review another flight or a refund. Online flight changes must be completed at least two hours before the replacement flight departs. If you have already checked a bag, ask airport staff instead of changing the flight online.
- For a travel-agency ticket, contact the agency about a refund. Some bookings cannot be changed or refunded online; JAL’s guide links to its international-ticket refund form.
- For a JAL-operated international flight, open the certificate guide, search the affected flight and select its flight number to display the certificate. The search window runs from three days before the boarding date to one year after it. Partner-operated codeshares are excluded.

At the counter: replacement flight, bags and documents
Show staff your booking and ask for the replacement flight’s arrival date before accepting it. Confirm whether to collect or transfer checked baggage. For an overnight disruption, ask which hotel, meals and transport are approved before spending money.
If a bag is missing or damaged, report it before leaving the airport, keep the bag tag and obtain a reference number. Ask for the written-claim deadline; this directory has not verified a carrier-specific deadline.
For an insurance claim, request the document your insurer asks for. A screenshot alone is not an airline certificate or a guarantee of reimbursement.
Refund eligibility, supporting documents and baggage guidance →Common questions
Which Japan Airlines flight number should I check?
Use the operating flight number and local departure date shown on your booking. A codeshare ticket can display another airline’s marketing number. The route records below are not a live status feed.
Are check-in counters and deadlines confirmed here?
No. Terminal, assigned counter, counter opening time, check-in deadline and boarding deadline need confirmation from the operating airline and airport for your travel date. A delayed departure does not automatically extend check-in.
