Qantas: counters, disruption documents and flight status

For a delay or cancellation, check your operating flight first, then find the departure counter and document request below. Use the airline’s insurance-document request path when you need written evidence. Keep your booking reference and baggage tag ready.

1. Search the operating flight first

Enter the flight number and local travel date in the airline’s official service. The airline page, airport board and booking record are the day-of references; a planned timetable cannot confirm that today’s service is running.

Find your flight, counter and document guide

Search an operating number in either direction. The guide shows the route and check-in location; open the airline’s official search for your travel date’s times and status.

Choose airports or an airline without entering a number to browse checked services in either direction. Spaces and leading zeros are accepted. The date is a reminder for the official lookup, not a timetable filter: a guide match does not confirm operation on that date. This is not a live status feed.

Choose your departure airport, then the operating airline. The terminal or floor below is a starting point, not a permanent desk assignment. Use the departure display for your flight number to find today's check-in row; the boarding gate is a different location.

Terminal 3 international departures

Haneda states that the terminal depends on the airline and that counters can change on the day. Confirm the international flight and airline list for the operating flight rather than using a saved counter location.

Delay or cancellation evidence: request it through the operating airline, not an airport-wide certificate desk.

International Terminal

International check-in is normally on Level 4. During terminal redevelopment, some airlines temporarily use Level 2; Brisbane Airport tells passengers to check the flight-information displays for their assigned location. Do not assume every Japan flight uses the same floor or a permanent row.

Delay or cancellation evidence: request it through the operating airline, not an airport-wide certificate desk.

International Terminal Building, 3rd-floor departure lobby

The international check-in lobby has counter areas A–D. Look up the Sydney flight on the departure screen for the area assigned to Qantas that day; the domestic terminal’s second-floor counters are not the starting point for this flight.

Delay or cancellation evidence: request it through the operating airline, not an airport-wide certificate desk.

Insurance or disruption evidence ↗

A check-in counter can help you with the immediate disruption, but it may not issue the document your insurer needs. ANA and JAL have international certificate services; Qantas and Jetstar have their own document-request paths. Keep the operating number, local departure date, booking reference and airline messages together.

2. Find today’s counter at the airport

At either airport, use the live departure board for the QF flight to find the counter. For an imminent disruption, Qantas directs travellers to the local office or airport staff; a third-party booking can also require contact with the ticket seller. At an Australian airport, begin in the international terminal listed on the route page. At your Japanese departure airport, check the airport’s current departure information for the flight before walking to a counter.

Before joining the queue

  • Show the operating flight number, booking reference and passport.
  • Ask whether the airline or ticket seller handles the change or refund.
  • Ask how checked baggage is being handled before leaving the airport.

Do not rely on a saved counter number

Airlines and airports can move check-in positions by flight, date and disruption. This page uses a terminal or official day-of lookup only where it has a source, not an old desk assignment.

3. Insurance or disruption evidence

Qantas’s Australian help centre offers “Request insurance letter” and delay/cancellation support. Its public help page does not describe a universal self-serve delay certificate for every flight, so use the official request path or ask Qantas staff for the document your insurer or employer requires.

4. Delayed, missing or damaged baggage

Report baggage damage, loss or delay to the operating airline as soon as possible, ideally before leaving the airport. Keep the baggage tag, boarding pass, report or case number, and any airline instruction.

Check-in and baggage-drop deadlines

For Qantas-operated international flights QF1–QF399, complete airport check-in at least 60 minutes before scheduled departure. International online and app check-in run from 24 hours until 90 minutes before departure. These are different deadlines. For other codeshare operators, use the operating carrier’s rules; confirm the airport’s counter opening time separately.

Questions travellers ask

Where do I find the Qantas counter?

At either airport, use the live departure board for the QF flight to find the counter. For an imminent disruption, Qantas directs travellers to the local office or airport staff; a third-party booking can also require contact with the ticket seller.

How do I get a document after a Qantas delay or cancellation?

Qantas’s Australian help centre offers “Request insurance letter” and delay/cancellation support. Its public help page does not describe a universal self-serve delay certificate for every flight, so use the official request path or ask Qantas staff for the document your insurer or employer requires.
