Melbourne Airport ↔ Tokyo Narita Airport: counter, flight number and disruption steps

For a JAL Melbourne–Narita disruption, go to Terminal 2 International and confirm the counter from the live airport display. The summer timetable has different operating days by direction, so do not treat a route listing as a daily service.

Search the flight number before leaving for the airport

The numbers below identify the planned service in the airline’s checked schedule. They are not a live result. Search the operating flight number and local departure date through Japan Airlines (JAL), then check the airport board for the current counter.

Find your flight, counter and document guide

Search an operating number in either direction. The guide shows the route and check-in location; open the airline’s official search for your travel date’s times and status.

Choose airports or an airline without entering a number to browse checked services in either direction. Spaces and leading zeros are accepted. The date is a reminder for the official lookup, not a timetable filter: a guide match does not confirm operation on that date. This is not a live status feed.

Planned service reference

Australia to Japan

JL774: Melbourne → Narita

For 29 March–24 October 2026, JAL lists JL774 on Mon/Wed/Sat and JL773 on Tue/Fri/Sun. Check the current schedule for another period.

JL773: Narita → Melbourne

For the return journey, look up the same operating airline at the Japanese airport on your departure day.

Where to find the counter

Melbourne Airport → Japan

Terminal 2 International. Qantas identifies Terminal 2 as the international terminal at Melbourne. Check the departure board or airline before travelling for the counter used on your date.

Use the departure board for the operating flight to identify today’s desk and opening time.

Tokyo Narita Airport → Australia

Terminal 2, 3rd floor. Go to the international check-in floor shown here, then find your operating flight number on the departure board for today’s counter. A boarding gate is not a check-in counter.

Delay or cancellation document

JAL says an online certificate can be issued for eligible JAL international flights. Search the delay/cancellation/diversion information, then select the flight number. JAL excludes codeshares operated by another airline and states its searchable window is from three days before boarding to one year after.

Check-in, baggage drop and local dates

Complete international check-in at least 60 minutes before scheduled departure and reach the gate about 30 minutes before departure. JAL says passengers arriving less than 10 minutes before departure cannot board. Check the airport-specific guide for counter opening times.

MEL uses Australia/Melbourne; NRT uses Asia/Tokyo. Overnight flights can arrive on a different calendar day. Use the scheduled local departure date for status and document searches; Australia’s daylight-saving changes do not apply to every departure city.

If this flight changes on the day

  1. Confirm that the flight number and operating airline match your booking; codeshares can be handled elsewhere.
  2. Ask the counter for the revised departure time, rebooking or refund path, and checked-baggage plan.
  3. Save the airline message, flight status and any case number. If you need evidence, use the official document path above rather than treating a screenshot as a certificate.
  4. Report damaged, missing or delayed baggage to the operating airline before leaving the airport.

If the flight is changed, save the revised time and speak with JAL before rearranging an onward booking. For baggage damage or delay, report it to the operating airline before you leave the airport and retain the report number.
