Plan your route

Izumo Taisha and sunset at Lake Shinji are in different cities, so allow for the journey between them. Adding Adachi Museum or Iwami Ginzan makes for a much fuller trip; give the place you most want to see its own time.

When to visit

For sunset on Lake Shinji, check sunset time and your viewing spot. A single camera frame cannot promise clear skies over the whole lake.

Local food to try

Look for soba in Izumo and soup made with Lake Shinji’s small shijimi clams around Matsue.
