Yamaguchi in five days: travel east to west or the other way?

For Kintaikyo, Karato Market and the Kanmon tunnel, move west with one night in Iwakuni, two in Shin-Yamaguchi and one in Shimonoseki. For Kaikyokan, Akama-jingu's Treasure Hall, the cave and footbath, start with two nights in Shimonoseki, then two in Shin-Yamaguchi. The itinerary starting in Shimonoseki omits the market sushi event, so it does not need to match event days. The Iwakuni-start option finishes at Shimonoseki Station; the Shimonoseki-start option finishes at Shin-Yamaguchi Station. Choose the ending station that suits your onward city.
