Admission
Basic-exhibition admission is ¥700 for adults living outside Matsue; junior high school students and younger enter free, effective July 1, 2026. Adult groups of 20 or more pay ¥560; Matsue residents pay ¥350. Special-exhibition prices vary. The adult castle keep/history museum basic-exhibition combined ticket costs ¥1,520, valid for 10 days from first use. Separate tickets cost ¥1,200 and ¥700, totalling ¥1,900. The combined ticket excludes history museum special exhibitions.

Castle-town history through exhibits
The basic exhibition introduces Matsue's history. A castle town is a settlement formed around a castle; allow about 60–90 minutes to read the exhibits.
How to get to Matsue History Museum
Take the Lakeline from JR Matsue Station bay 7. Get off at Otemae Horikawa Yūransen Noriba/Rekishikan-mae (大手前堀川遊覧船乗場・歴史館前), then walk about three minutes to the history museum. Return from the same stop on the loop bus to Matsue Station.
