How to get to Tottori Sand Dunes

Take route 39 from bay 0 at Tottori Station’s north bus terminal. Get off at the final stop, Sakyu Kaikan (砂丘会館(鳥取砂丘)), and walk a few minutes to the dunes. Adult fare is JPY 380 one way. Allow extra time to walk the sand hills. If adding The Sand Museum, take the Tottori Station-bound return from Suna no Bijutsukan-mae.

Midday heat and strong winds

This outdoor site has little shade. Bring water and shorten the walk if heat or wind makes walking difficult. Follow on-site guidance after dark or in strong winds.

Adding The Sand Museum

After the dune walk, see the Sand Museum’s sculptures too. It charges admission and closes for exhibition changeovers. Allow separate time to walk between the sites and see the museum, then check the Tottori Station-bound return from Suna no Bijutsukan-mae.
