Matsubara Hachiman Shrine and Otabiyama
松原八幡神社・御旅山
Matsubara Hachiman Shrine is at 399 Shirahama-cho Ko, Himeji. On the 15th, major events continue at Otabiyama; the shrine and hillside viewing areas are separate.
The directions below use one representative location, not every venue entrance or the complete procession route. Use the official venue map for your ticket or programme.
Getting there by train or bus
From Osaka or Kobe, use Sanyo Railway to Shirahama-no-miya and walk to Matsubara Hachiman Shrine.
Planning your visit
Base your journey on the coastal shrine, not the castle. Follow designated viewing instructions around the mikoshi and allow for the programme moving to Otabiyama.
This is an editorial travel suggestion, not a claim of a personal visit or a guarantee of the programme. When travelling from Canada, use your Japan arrival date to select the festival day.
