Neighbourhoods take turns offering dances and float performances at Nagasaki Kunchi. The participants change each year, so a particular dragon dance or boat float is not guaranteed in every edition.

Official stages are Suwa Shrine, the Otabisho near Ohato, Yasaka Shrine and Central Park. Niwasaki-mawari visits follow each participating neighborhood's separate route.

Getting there by train or bus

From Hakata, connect limited express and Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen services to Nagasaki. Use the tram towards Suwa-jinja where appropriate, but follow the venue and entrance on your ticket.

Start with the current list of participating neighbourhoods, then select a performance and venue. Street niwasaki-mawari is separate from the four main offering grounds.

History and traditions

Tradition traces the festival to a song offering at Suwa Shrine in 1634. Nagasaki's overseas connections influenced its performances.
