Isono Shrine is one of the main festival centers. The Kawairi rite takes place at the Kamo River, separate from the shrine grounds; other shrine festivals have their own routes.

The directions below use one representative location, not every venue entrance or the complete procession route. Use the official venue map for your ticket or programme.

Getting there by train or bus

Take a Yosan Line limited express from Matsuyama or Takamatsu to Iyo-Saijo. Consult the official float map for your shrine or river viewing approach.

Planning your visit

Choose a particular shrine celebration first. Do not assume one day at Isono Shrine covers every float and river event.

This is an editorial travel suggestion, not a claim of a personal visit or a guarantee of the programme. When travelling from Canada, use your Japan arrival date to select the festival day.

History and traditions

Floats appear in 18th-century shrine records. Neighborhoods continue the tradition of offering danjiri and mikoshi.
