Four nights in Sendai and Miyagi: should you change accommodation?

Stay in Sendai for separate exhibition, temple and aquarium days, or move after two nights for two nights in Naruko Onsen. Naruko is a separate onsen area reached by changing trains at Kogota. For the gorge, check the autumn seasonal bus’s operating period and both journeys.

Can I use the Sendai Area Pass from Sendai to Naruko Onsen?

Official covered JR routes are the designated sections between Sendai, Matsushima, Matsushima-Kaigan, Yamadera and Shiroishi. JR return travel via Kogota to Naruko Onsen and accommodation are separate from this itinerary’s area-pass cost. This is a different product from the wider JR EAST PASS; distinguish names and routes.

Sendai Area Pass: ¥1,420, passport eligibility and covered routes

Does one Sendai Area Pass cover a move to Yamagata accommodation?

The Senzan Line boundary is Yamadera, so one pass does not cover the whole route to Yamagata. Price the full journey with ordinary tickets or check an existing JR EAST PASS’s validity. For three nights in Sendai and one in Yamagata, return to Sendai on the Senzan Line on the final day. Accommodation and extra JR fares are excluded from the existing A/B subtotals.
