Arrivals → ticket → domestic-terminal bus stop 8
- Complete arrival procedures on 1F. Both terminal arrival lobbies are on 1F. After immigration, baggage collection and customs, international passengers follow the connection towards the domestic terminal. City-bound stop 8 is outside the domestic terminal. The floor plan places bus information near domestic entrance 3.
- Buy a JPY 1,500 city ticket. Card-enabled machines list Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express and Diners; some machines accept cash only. Cash payment on boarding is also possible. Carry JPY 1,000 notes and coins: JPY 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 notes cannot be changed on board.
- At stop 8, check ‘鹿児島市内’ and the final destination. Nangoku Kotsu · 南国交通 and Kagoshima Kotsu · 鹿児島交通 jointly operate the airport shuttle. Direct services run Chuo → Tenmonkan → City Hall or the high-speed boat terminal. Yoshino services reach Tenmonkan before Chuo. Show the driver your arrival stop before loading luggage.
- Board through the front door and pay. Put a ticket or cash in the fare box, or use an accepted local IC card. Nangoku's supported bank-card tap payment requires one tap on boarding, with no tap on alighting. Check the card brands and reader on the actual jointly operated vehicle.
- Alight at your chosen stop and collect hold luggage. Use the hotel's address for the final walk. For the Shinkansen, continue to Kagoshima-Chuo's JR gates.
Regular seats are first come, first served without a reservation; if full, use the next bus. For a wheelchair space, contact 0995-58-2341 by the previous day to confirm the service and vehicle. Not every vehicle has identical access or luggage space.
The local cards listed are Rapica and Iwasaki IC, which differ from Suica and ICOCA. Carry a ticket or cash as a backup. Keep valuables and fragile items with you. A common guaranteed size/quantity allowance for every airport-bus vehicle has not been confirmed; ask ahead about large bags, pushchairs or groups.

Kagoshima-Chuo hotels and Shinkansen: bus terminal → JR station
Kagoshima Chuo Terminal Building · 鹿児島中央ターミナルビル is a separate building across the road east of JR. Airport arrivals use bay 4 on 1F. The airport-bound bay 1 and station-east stop 21 are different boarding locations.
- Collect your bags at bay 4 and follow signs towards JR's east/Sakurajima entrance, 桜島口 / 鹿児島中央駅.
- Use the underground passage or a marked pedestrian crossing to reach the station's east plaza. The terminal quotes about two minutes to the station; allow extra time for luggage and the ticket gates.
- Follow JR / 新幹線 signs to the gates for your booked train. The Kagoshima-Chuo-ekimae tram stop is separately located in the plaza.
- For a hotel west of JR, cross through the public station passage towards 西口. Check the hotel entrance before setting off with luggage.

Tenmonkan hotels: direct and Yoshino buses stop in different places
The bus-stop name is ‘天文館’. Direct buses reach Tenmonkan in about 46 minutes via Chuo; Yoshino buses reach it first in about 50 minutes. The operator's map distinguishes their arrival stops.
- At airport stop 8, confirm that your bus calls at Tenmonkan and whether it is direct or via Yoshino. The adult fare is JPY 1,500.
- Direct arrivals use map point 4; Yoshino arrivals use map point 5. They are close but require different road crossings. Follow the actual stop sign and driver instructions.
- Use your hotel address to find the arcade, CenTerrace or southern hotel area. Cross only at marked crossings. Check the return boarding stop separately.
The current Yoshino departures are 12:35→Tenmonkan 13:25→Chuo 13:30 and 16:20→Tenmonkan 17:10→Chuo 17:15, via Kami-Kedana, Yoshino, Inari-cho and Kinsei-cho. These differ from the direct services continuing towards City Hall or the high-speed boat terminal.

Kagoshima Station hotels: change to tram Line 2
Kagoshima Station is a separate JR station north-east of Kagoshima-Chuo. For the Shinkansen, use Kagoshima-Chuo. A city-bound airport bus does not mean a direct bus to Kagoshima Station.
- Alight at Chuo Terminal and cross to the station's east plaza.
- At Kagoshima-Chuo-ekimae · 鹿児島中央駅前, board Line 2 towards Kagoshima-ekimae · 鹿児島駅前, rather than the opposite direction towards Korimoto · 郡元.
- Alight at the final Kagoshima-ekimae stop and walk to JR or your hotel. Ferry passengers can instead alight two stops earlier at Suizokukan-guchi.
Tram payment
Board through the middle door, alight at the front, and pay cash on exit. Press the stop button and put the JPY 200 adult fare in the fare box (effective 1 August 2026). Prepare exact fare or change money before paying. Rapica and supported bank-card payment require taps on both boarding and alighting. Nationwide IC cards such as Suica and SUGOCA are not accepted on these trams/city-operated buses; JR accepts different cards.
From Tenmonkan-dori · 天文館通, Lines 1 and 2 both run towards Kagoshima-ekimae. Carry your bags and keep doors clear. Tram waits and the final walk are additional to the airport-bus journey.

Sakurajima Ferry: choose the correct port terminal
Your destination is Kagoshima Port Sakurajima Ferry Terminal · 鹿児島港桜島フェリーターミナル, at 本港新町4-1. The airport bus's High-speed Boat Terminal · 高速船ターミナル is a different facility farther south.
City Hall bus arrival → walk
At airport stop 8, choose a service calling at City Hall · 市役所前: about 48 minutes, JPY 1,500. Official guidance then gives about a 15-minute walk to the ferry terminal. The high-speed-terminal and Yoshino services have different stopping patterns.
City Hall → ferry terminal walking route ↗Chuo → tram Line 2 → Suizokukan-guchi
Take Line 2 towards Kagoshima-ekimae and alight at Suizokukan-guchi · 水族館口. The tram costs JPY 200 extra, followed by about 600 m walking. From JR Kagoshima Station, official guidance gives about seven minutes walking to the terminal.
Suizokukan-guchi → ferry terminal walking route ↗Walk to the terminal and board on 2F
Cross towards the aquarium using marked crossings. With luggage, follow the official lift-access route via the car-park approach/ramp, enter the terminal and take the lift to 2F pedestrian boarding. The footbridge entrance differs from the lift entrance.
Regular ferries to Sakurajima Port · 桜島港 take about 15 minutes, or around 20 depending on sea conditions, plus two or three minutes to disembark. Adult one-way fare is JPY 250 (child 130). Both directions are paid at Sakurajima Port: after arriving from Kagoshima, and before boarding back to Kagoshima. Prepare JPY 250 cash or consult the operator for other payment methods; follow on-site pedestrian boarding instructions.

Sengan-en: JR station or City View after the airport bus
Sengan-en · 仙巌園 can be reached through Sengan-en Station · 仙巌園駅, which opened in March 2025. First take the airport bus to Chuo; there is no direct airport train.
JR: about 10 minutes, JPY 240 extra
- At Chuo, buy a Sengan-en ticket from the JR machine or use an IC card accepted on this JR section.
- Choose a Nippo Main Line local train calling at Sengan-en, via Kagoshima Station. From Kagoshima Station it is one stop. Check the platform and destinations such as Kokubu or Hayato on that day's JR display.
- At Sengan-en, walk to the designated crossing over National Route 10, then to the entrance. The official map asks you to detour to the crossing, rather than crossing the road directly outside the station.
The official tourism guide quotes JPY 240 and about ten minutes from Chuo, additional to the airport bus. JR accepts cards including SUGOCA, Suica and PASMO on this section. Sengan-en has ticket machines rather than a staffed ticket-sales counter.
City View: about 49 minutes, JPY 230 extra
- Board Kagoshima City View · カゴシマシティビュー at East stop 4 (東4) in Chuo's east plaza. This differs from airport-arrival bay 4 inside the terminal.
- Alight at Sengan-en (Iso Garden) · 仙巌園(磯庭園)前: about 49 minutes and JPY 230 per adult in the published table.
- Follow the official access map's walking arrows to the entrance, using designated crossings.
Board in the middle, alight at the front and pay cash on exit. Check the city operator's instructions for Rapica and supported card payment. Carry your luggage yourself.
Sengan-en opens 09:00–17:00, last admission 16:30. Choose your visit time before selecting transport. The City View timetable still linked by the city operator is labelled 1 April 2020: Chuo departures 08:30–17:30 every 30 minutes; the last Sengan-en call is 18:19. Check current service notices before travelling.

Last buses, onward connections and flight delays
Airport departures: timetable effective 1 April 2026 until further notice
- Chuo/Tenmonkan/City Hall: last scheduled bus 21:30→Chuo 22:08→Tenmonkan 22:16→City Hall 22:18. The current table does not separate weekdays and weekends.
- Via Yoshino: last 16:20→Tenmonkan 17:10→Chuo 17:15.
- High-speed boat terminal: last 16:00→Chuo 16:38→Tenmonkan 16:46→terminal 16:52. This is a different terminal from the Sakurajima Ferry.
Starred buses from 20:45 may depart later to accommodate flight arrivals. The operator states a limit of flights arriving by 22:10; this is neither a fixed 22:10 bus departure nor unlimited waiting for international immigration. Ask at stop 8 after landing and allow time for baggage and arrival formalities.
Trams, JR and ferries have separate last departures
- Tram Line 2 towards Kagoshima-ekimae: the current weekday/Saturday/Sunday-holiday tables all show Chuo-ekimae 22:12. Tenmonkan-dori is 22:20 weekdays, 22:19 Saturdays and 22:20 Sundays/holidays. Four minutes from bus arrival at Chuo 22:08 is too short to guarantee luggage collection, crossing and boarding. The Tenmonkan connection is also not guaranteed.
- Sakurajima Ferry: since 1 October 2025, Kagoshima departures are 04:30–23:30 and Sakurajima return departures 04:00–23:00 on weekdays, weekends and holidays. It is not a 24-hour service. A late outward sailing may reach the island after the last return has left.
- Island sightseeing: Sakurajima Island View buses depart 09:30–16:30 every 30 minutes. A night ferry does not mean arrival-day sightseeing and return are possible.
- JR Sengan-en: the checked October 2026 daily timetable shows the last Chuo departure 23:41→Kagoshima 23:45→Sengan-en 23:48, and the last return Sengan-en 00:00→Chuo 00:07 the next day. Garden admission ends at 16:30; these are not sightseeing arrival trains. Recheck your date and temporary notices.
- Shinkansen: last trains depend on destination and date. Include luggage collection, the terminal-to-station walk and ticket-gate time when comparing a booked train with bus arrival.

If the bus has finished
Use the domestic 1F taxi rank 5 or international 1F rank 2, or contact an airport-listed company if no car is available. Tell your hotel about late check-in and prepare its Japanese address/entrance. If trams have finished after reaching the city, compare the final walk with a short taxi journey, particularly with large bags. For a booked vehicle, send the operator your flight number and revised arrival time and confirm waiting/cancellation terms.
For disruption updates, check the airport, Nangoku Kotsu, Kagoshima Kotsu, city transport, JR Kyushu and ferry separately. Weather or volcanic activity does not by itself establish that every route is suspended. Flight delays and cancellations → · Incheon–Kagoshima route guide (Korean) →

Taxis, booked vehicles and rental cars
- Go to domestic 1F rank 5 or international 1F rank 2. For a booked vehicle, follow the company's agreed meeting point.
- Show the hotel's Japanese address and passenger/suitcase counts. Confirm payment, estimated total, night surcharge, tolls and booked waiting.
- The airport lists about 40 minutes and 42 km to Chuo, but does not publish a verified current fare range. Request a quote rather than treating an invented amount as a guaranteed fare.
Airport-listed contacts: Asahi Kotsu 0995-45-1111, Arimura Taxi 0995-42-1101, Daiichi Kotsu 0995-66-1000 and Nakamura Taxi 0995-43-3333. Provide the flight, arrival date/time and hotel address; confirm vehicle type and delay/cancellation terms. A reserved-car meeting point may differ from the ordinary rank.
Rental-car collection uses an off-airport office
Request your booked company's shuttle using its instructions or the airport's 1F general information desk. The desk also advises on walk-up reservations. The airport map marks domestic stop 4 as the rental-car/car-park shuttle area.
Take the company shuttle to its office and present the booking, required payment method and driving documents valid for Japan. Confirm insurance, excess, fuel, return location/hours and flight-delay terms before collecting the car. Rental, hotel parking and tolls are separate costs.

Are Kagoshima-Chuo and Kagoshima Station the same?
No. Kagoshima-Chuo is the Shinkansen station. Kagoshima Station is a separate JR station closer to the ferry. From the airport bus at Chuo, change to tram Line 2 towards Kagoshima-ekimae (鹿児島駅前); the tram costs JPY 200 extra.
Where should I alight for a Tenmonkan hotel?
Choose Tenmonkan. Direct buses arrive after Chuo in about 46 minutes; Yoshino services reach Tenmonkan first in about 50 minutes. Their arrival stops are separate points on the operator map. Use your hotel address for the final walk, and check return boarding separately.
Do I need to reserve the airport bus?
Regular seats are first come, first served without a reservation. If full, use the next bus. For a wheelchair space, call Nangoku Kotsu on 0995-58-2341 by the previous day to confirm the service and vehicle.
How do I pay for the airport bus?

Can I bring a large suitcase?
The operator provides hold/on-board luggage space, but a common guaranteed allowance for every airport vehicle has not been confirmed. Ask ahead about large bags, pushchairs or groups. Keep valuables and fragile items with you.
How do I reach the Sakurajima Ferry?
Take a City Hall-bound airport bus and walk about 15 minutes from City Hall to the terminal at 本港新町4-1. Alternatively, change at Chuo to tram Line 2 towards Kagoshima-ekimae, alight at Suizokukan-guchi and walk about 600 m. Pedestrians board on 2F. The high-speed boat terminal is a different facility.

What happens if my flight is delayed?
The current last scheduled bus is airport 21:30→Chuo 22:08→Tenmonkan 22:16→City Hall 22:18. Starred departures may shift for flights; the operator states a limit of flights arriving by 22:10, not unlimited waiting for immigration. Confirm at stop 8. If buses have finished, use domestic taxi rank 5, international rank 2 or an airport-listed company.
Where can I check service disruptions?
Check the airport, the two airport-bus operators, city transport, JR Kyushu and Sakurajima Ferry separately. Weather or volcanic activity does not establish that every route is suspended. Ferry service can continue after island sightseeing buses and attractions close.
