Separate return trips to Uchiko and Ozu

Spend three nights in Okaido to visit both towns without changing accommodation. Make separate day trips to Uchiko’s old streets and Ozu Castle, using return trains from JR Matsuyama on both days.

Day 1: visit Matsuyama Castle from Okaido

Spend three nights in Matsuyama, with a separate day trip to each of Uchiko and Ozu. Use return trains from JR Matsuyama on both days.

  1. Matsuyama Airport or JR Matsuyama Station → Okaido stop

From JR Matsuyama-Ekimae, take city tram 5 towards Dogo Onsen and alight at Okaido. From the airport, check that a limousine you can catch after arrival stops at Okaido. Not every airport bus reaches this stop. Initial arrival transport is excluded from the sightseeing subtotal.

  2. Okaido stop → Shinonomeguchi ropeway lower station

Walk from Okaido tram stop to Shinonomeguchi ropeway’s lower station. The official walk is about 5 minutes.

    Access to the lower station

  3. Shinonomeguchi ropeway lower station → Upper station and keep ticket office

Buy an adult JPY 520 return ticket at the lower station and take the ropeway. From the upper station, walk through Honmaru to the keep ticket office. The operator’s approximately 30-minute route from the lower station’s first floor to that office excludes touring the keep interior.

  4. Keep ticket office → Matsuyama Castle keep

Adult keep admission is JPY 520, separate from the return ropeway ticket. Usual hours are 09:00–17:00, with entry ending 30 minutes before closing. August and December–January hours differ; check your date’s deadline before entering.

    Castle fees and hours

  5. Matsuyama Castle keep → Ropeway lower station and Okaido shopping street

After visiting, return to the upper boarding point and take the ropeway down. Walk from the lower station towards Okaido for food or a rest.

    Access to the lower station

Keep admission and a return ropeway ride have separate fees. Walking only around Honmaru does not require keep admission. Moving this visit to day 2 requires rescheduling its existing visits, transport and admission deadlines.

Day 2: walk Uchiko’s old streets and return to Matsuyama

After breakfast at your accommodation, take city tram 5 from Okaido towards JR Matsuyama-Ekimae.

  1. Okaido accommodation → JR Uchiko Station

Take tram 5 from Okaido towards JR Matsuyama-Ekimae, walk into JR and change to a train stopping at Uchiko. Matsuyama-shi is not a JR station. Check arrival and return services for your date. The accommodation walk, tram transfer, JR ticket purchase and platform access are outside the train time. Choosing a limited express adds a non-reserved supplement to the basic ticket.

  2. JR Uchiko Station → Uchiko’s old streets

Tourism-association guidance gives about 1 km/15 minutes from Uchiko Station to the old streets’ southern entrance. Explore buildings and lanes, then have lunch. It suggests 1–2 hours for streets and Uchiko-za surroundings, or about 3 with food/a café. Uchiko-za’s main interior is closed for works and excluded. Check opening days, fees and your return train before adding a preserved-house visit.

Check the train’s Matsuyama arrival on the same date. Alight at JR Matsuyama and walk to the tram stop. Take tram 5 towards Dogo Onsen, alight at Okaido and return to your accommodation. 2. JR Iyo-Ozu Station → Ozu Castle

The official walk from Iyo-Ozu to Ozu Castle is about 30 minutes. Follow the operator’s old Ozu Kaido route through Tokiwamachi shopping street and across the Hijikawa.
