Frequently asked questions

Can I reach Tomioka Silk Mill without a hire car?

Take Joshin Railway from Takasaki to Joshu-Tomioka, then walk about 15 minutes. The official rail reference is about 40 minutes; train schedules and mill visiting time are separate.

Silk mill access

Can I still use the outdoor bath on the final morning in winter?

Sainokawara opens at 07:00 April–November or 09:00 December–March. Winter can leave little time to return to the hotel and prepare to leave, so bathing the previous day may work better. Match your booked hotel’s check-out and return bus.
