Admission
A ticket for Hikone Castle and Genkyuen costs ¥1,000 for general visitors and ¥300 for elementary and junior high school students. Individual museum tickets cost ¥700 and ¥350, respectively. Same-day combined tickets for the castle, Genkyuen, and museum cost ¥1,500 and ¥550, respectively. For general visitors, separate-day castle/garden and museum visits total ¥1,700. Genkyuen-only tickets cost ¥400 for general visitors and ¥150 for elementary and junior high school students. Prices are effective October 1, 2024.
Opening hours
The castle is open 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.; last castle and Genkyuen admission is 4:30 p.m. Major buildings inside the castle close at 4:45 p.m. The castle is open year-round; the Kaikoku Memorial Hall closes December 25–31. The museum has separate seasonal hours, listed in the visiting tips.

How to get to Hikone Castle · 彦根城
Leave JR Hikone Station through the west exit and walk toward the castle, about 15 minutes away. On arrival, use the on-site map to find your entrance and ticket office. Allow extra time for ticket lines and the climb to the keep.

Stairs to the keep
The approach includes steps and slopes, and the stairs inside the keep are steep. Allow time for ticket lines and the climb as well as the walk from the station.
The museum opens later than the castle
From October 2026, Hikone Castle Museum is open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. from March through November, with last admission at 4:30 p.m. From December through February, it is open 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with last admission at 4 p.m. Closures and exhibition changes can affect visiting and combined-ticket availability.
