From Miyazaki Airport arrival hall to JR, bus, and taxi stop

  1. Please move based on the actual arrival flight listed on your ticket. For international flights, after completing immigration, customs, and baggage pickup, you will exit to the arrival lobby on the first floor of the same terminal. For domestic flights, please proceed from the 1st floor after receiving your baggage.
  2. JR: On the 1st floor, follow the ‘JR 乗り場’ sign to the west side of the building. On the airport's official first floor layout, JR is shown at the domestic counter, and Bus is at the international counter. Take the exit toward the station and follow the ticket/ticket instructions at the airport station to get to the platform. Please do not stand in the front bus line or go up to the second floor flight departure area.
  3. Bus: Follow the ‘バス乗り場’ sign on the 1st floor to the outside bus area near the international flight counter. Number ① is for Miyako City, Tachibanadori, and Miyazaki Station, and number ② is for Nichinan/Obi via Aoshima. Please distinguish between express bus number ③ or number ④ bound for Seagaia.
  4. Taxi: Exit to ‘タクシー乗り場’ in front of the terminal on the 1st floor. The taxi stand is in a separate area from the JR station or bus number ②.

If your arrival location is different or you have large luggage or a wheelchair, check the general information on the 1st floor for directions to the JR station and boarding area.

Bus payment and large suitcase

Regular route buses do not have a seat reservation system. For cash, take a numbered ticket when you board and pay the fare when you get off. Place your transport IC card on the terminal when boarding and getting off. There is no change, and 5,000 yen, 10,000 yen bills and new 500 yen coins cannot be used in the in-car currency exchange machine, so it is convenient to prepare small bills or coins or a recharged card.

Free baggage standards are within 10kg in weight, 0.027㎥ in volume, and 1m in length. Exceeding this may result in a baggage fee equivalent to the child fare, and baggage exceeding 30kg, 0.25㎥, or 2m cannot be brought in. If it is crowded, even luggage within the specified size may be rejected. If there are too many suitcases blocking the bus aisle, check the operator's baggage regulations and compare taxi models. How to ride Miyazaki Airport JR and exceptions to limited express surcharges

To get to Miyazaki Station, purchase a regular ticket from the airport station to Miyazaki or prepare a usable transport IC card, and then take a regular train bound for Miyazaki. Pass through Minami-Miyazaki and get off at Miyazaki Station, and check the east and west exits where your accommodation is located.

The regular ticket in the official fare revision data is 400 yen and the airport line additional fare is already included. The 130 yen will not be added again.

Non-reserved seats on limited express ordinary cars used only within the Miyazaki - Tayoshi/Miyazaki Airport section can be ridden with a regular ticket. Reserved seats, green seats, and limited express trains that continue beyond Miyazaki cannot be viewed under the same conditions. Check the non-reserved seat markings on the train and do not sit in the reserved seat arbitrarily. Aoshima is outside this special section, and the Sightseeing Limited Express Umisachiyamasachi also requires a separate reserved seat ticket.

JR transport IC card and luggage

Starting January 17, 2026, the SUGOCA Miyazaki area has been expanded to include Aoshima Station. You can use it to travel within the areas of Miyazaki, Airport, Tayoshi, and Aoshima. When continuing south of Aoshima or to other IC areas, check the ticket conditions rather than assuming that you can use the same card for the entire route.

JR’s carry-on baggage standards are a maximum of 2 pieces, with a total of three sides of less than 250cm, length of 2m, and 30kg. You must move your luggage yourself and clear the aisles and doors. This standard should not be applied to regular buses as well.

City hotels: Miyazaki Station or Tachibanadori?

Accommodation in front of Miyazaki Station

The order is Arrival Hall → Airport Station → Miyazaki Station → Hotel Entrance. JR on-board journey time is about 10 to 15 minutes, but you need to add time to wait for the next train. If you first check whether your accommodation in front of the station is on the east or west side, you can avoid having to cross the station again with large luggage.

If you are taking a bus, take number ① bound for Miyazaki Station. Getting off at the station is different from arriving at the hotel lobby.

Accommodation in the centre of Tachibanadori

If you are staying at a hotel near Tachibanadori, take bus number ① from the airport → Tachibanadori 1, 2, or 3-chome, which is closest to your accommodation → Go to the hotel entrance. It costs 500 yen to 2 and 3-chome, and the on-board journey time for Airport Liner and regular bus services is about 17 to 24 minutes. The Airport Liner stops at Airport, Miyako City, Tachibanadori 1, 2, 3-chome, and Miyazaki Station, and regular buses have additional stops along the way. Don't get off at any stop just because it says about the same hotel.

If you go to Miyazaki Station by JR first, you must add walking, city bus, or taxi to the hotel in the city. If you have a lot of luggage or it is raining, it is a good idea to check if you can use the airport bus at a stop close to your accommodation. The directions below are examples of the bus stop area. Please change the destination to your actual accommodation address to check.

Transfer between Miyako City and Minami-Miyazaki Station

Miyako City is a bus terminal, and Minami-Miyazaki Station is a JR station to the east. Get off the airport bus number ① and walk around the corner of the south building to the east JR station. Check the official guide map for JR station directions and crosswalks. This is not a facility that automatically transfers to the same stop name. JR station direction on the official guide map

To go directly from Miyazaki Airport to Aoshima, the beach, and the shrine

Aoshima · 青島 is south of the airport. If you don't plan on stopping city centre, look at options going directly south from the airport rather than going up to Miyazaki Station and back.

Regular bus No. ②: Airport → Get off at Aoshima

Arrival hall → Airport No. ② → Regular bus bound for ‘日南・飫肥’ → Aoshima stop → Accommodation, beach, shrine in this order. Adult one-way fare is 610 yen, the ride is approximately 24 minutes, and no prior seat reservations are required. The ANA Holiday Inn stop is in front of Aoshima, so if you are staying at this hotel, check the drop-off point according to the hotel's official information.

In the revised table on October 1, 2026, airport departures are at 10:09, 11:39, 13:59, 18:06, and 19:19 every day, and at 15:49 on weekdays. The 15:49 bus does not run on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

The last departure at 19:19 is based on arrival at Aoshima at 19:43. Regardless of some of the detours taking you further to the south coast, check with your destination to see if you'll be getting off at Aoshima.

The timetable for the 700 yen summer-only shuttle that ran from July 1 to September 30 should not be applied to regular buses in October. Currently, the information is for regular buses to Nichinan.

JR local trains: check Tayoshi transfer first

At Airport Station, check the destination as Aoshima, purchase a regular ticket or check the conditions for using the IC, and then move in the following order: Airport Station → Tayoshi Station → Aoshima Station. The ride from the airport to Tayoshi takes about 2 minutes, and from Tayoshi to Aoshima takes about 19 to 23 minutes, but transfer waiting time is separate.

Regular trains do not run directly from the airport to Aoshima.

After getting off at Tayoshi, instead of continuing to take the train toward Miyazaki, transfer to the Aoshima stop train toward Aoshima, Aburatsu, Nango, and Shibushi. The stopping stations and platforms for each train are confirmed through the official detailed table and station information.

It is also possible to change routes at Minamimiyazaki by selecting a specific train connection, but the time and fare may vary as you head back north. You should not compare the same time and fare as Airport → Tayoshi → Aoshima.

The official timetable for the Sightseeing Express Umisachi Yamasachi · Seaside Yamasachi is listed as Airport 10:00 → Aoshima 10:21. This is not a regular transportation service that operates every day, and all seats are reserved and advance seat reservation is required.

Check the travel date operation calendar, airport departure direction, and fee on the reservation screen. No non-reserved seating exceptions apply.

Aoshima Station/Bus Stop → Beach/Shrine Entrance

Aoshima Station and Aoshima Bus Stop are different places. When you leave the station, follow the signs for the shrine and beach to the eastern shrine. If you get off at the Aoshima stop, use the pedestrian crosswalk to take the same shrine path.

Next, go to the land side entrance of Yayoi Bridge → cross the bridge to the island → Aoshima Shrine entrance.

Tourist organizations provide information about the distance from JR Station to the shrine, which is about 800 meters, about a 10-minute walk. Don't confuse the map pin on the shrine's main shrine with the mainland bridge entrance. After crossing the bridge, there is a sandy section to the entrance of the shrine grounds, so suitcase and wheelchair transportation must be considered separately.

Vehicles are not allowed on the island. Visiting hours are from 6:00 to sunset, so don't plan on arriving late at night.

For beach hotels, do not go to the shrine, but go to the hotel entrance on the beach. ANA Holiday Inn Resort Miyazaki officially provides separate hotel stops or access to Kodomonokuni Station. Check the check-in, reservation and transfer conditions of your accommodation, and do not think that you have arrived at all hotels just by ‘arriving at Aoshima’.

Last buses and JR trains from Miyazaki Airport

Below are the departure directions from the airport. We compared the revised bus ticket on October 1, 2026 with the JR October 5th, 10th, 11th, and 12th timetable. If Saturday is a public holiday, check the bus holiday conditions.

Taking the airport 21:55 train does not mean you will arrive at Aoshima around 22:00. You also have to wait for Tayoshi and walk after getting off. If you arrive late or have a lot of luggage, compare taking a taxi directly to your accommodation instead of waiting for a long transfer, and prepare a night walking route and a way to contact your accommodation first.

Boarding the last bus cannot be guaranteed based on the aircraft landing time alone. After completing immigration and baggage pickup, check the actual arrival time at the boarding point and the day's operation information. If your flight is delayed, you will not be notified that a regular bus or JR will be waiting.

If public transportation is over, take a taxi in front of the airport

Please show your accommodation’s Japanese address and reservation screen at the official taxi stand in front of the terminal. The airport informs taxi staff that their hours are from 8:30 to 21:30, but this does not guarantee dispatch after that time. If you plan to arrive late, please contact airport information or the official taxi company in advance for available taxi times.

Miyako Taxi's February 2026 rate list is 600 yen for the first 1km for regular vehicles, and 100 yen for every 285m thereafter. Low speed and waiting time also affect the rate. A fixed total amount to the city and Aoshima was not provided. Check with the company about late-night conditions, reservation/call costs, whether toll roads are used, and which vehicle type and payment method is suitable for large luggage. The travel distances for city hotels and beach hotels are different, so the same estimates should not be applied.

There are conditions for reserved taxi transfers from confirmed hotels, such as being for hotel guests only and limiting the number of passengers. Please distinguish it from regular airport pickup, and in case of flight delay, please contact the company directly to check time change/cancellation conditions.

Changing flights does not automatically change hotel, train, or hire car reservations. If you have reserved a hire car, check again on the reservation page for the company's actual pickup location, business office shuttle/final reception, driving qualification, insurance, and delay contact conditions.

If you cannot use the JR ticket you purchased due to a flight delay

There is no change fee for regular tickets when changing to the same type once before use or within the validity period, and the fare difference is calculated. A 220 yen fee applies for refunds of unused regular tickets.

Changes to reserved seats must be requested before departure from the boarding station, and once the designated train departs, the reserved seat ticket becomes invalid and cannot be refunded. Discounted products and online reservations may be subject to separate seller and product conditions.

Do not confuse flight delays with the JR train's own cancellation/delay refund policy, and contact the station or reservation office before departure.

Changes/refunds/missing the designated train before JR official use ↗

If there is a typhoon or heavy rain, check each operation information separately.

The suspension of flights, JR trains, and buses cannot be determined based on weather alone. Check the actual flight number, JR operation information, and Miyazaki Transportation notices of the airline and airport. Beach and bridge access is subject to local controls and facility guidance.

Tickets and reservations

The following is the operator’s official usage/purchase guide and is not an affiliate link. Regular JR tickets and route buses are different from tourist express reserved seats, reserved pickup, and hire car products.

For general tickets, check your destination at the airport station and purchase them, and for buses, follow the cash and transport IC card boarding procedures above. For the tourist express, check the operation date, direction, seat designation, and change/cancellation conditions before making a reservation. Are Miyako City and Minamimiyazaki Station the same place?

Miyako City is a bus terminal, and Minami-Miyazaki Station is a JR railway station, so they are different facilities. You need to get off the bus and walk around the corner of the south building to the JR station on the east. Please look at the ‘南宮崎駅’ direction on the official bus terminal guide map and use the crosswalk. You also need to set aside time for waiting for transfers and moving luggage.

What if I arrive late at night or miss the last departure?

The last bus to Miyazaki Station is at 19:46 on weekdays, 19:55 on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, and the last train departing Miyazaki Airport Station is at 21:55. A bus to Sumiyoshi also stops at Tachibanadori and Miyako City every day at 21:20. The regular bus to Aoshima lasts at 19:19 every day, and JR confirmed the timetable connecting the 21:55 airport train with a 22:42 departure from Tayoshi, arriving at Aoshima at 23:01. After entering the country and picking up your baggage, check whether you can take it separately, and if you miss it, request a shuttle to be dispatched to your accommodation address at the taxi stand in front of the airport. You will also need to contact the company directly to make changes to your accommodation check-in and scheduled pickup.
