Arriving at KMI → Miyazaki Station, city hotels or Aoshima
Miyazaki Airport to Miyazaki Station, Tachibanadori and Aoshima
For Miyazaki Station, take JR; for Tachibanadori, compare the bus from airport stop 1. For Aoshima, take a regular bus from stop 2 or a JR train with a change at Tayoshi. You do not need to go into Miyazaki city first and double back. For a late arrival, check the last service to your destination and your hotel’s check-in deadline together.
Miyazaki Bougainvillea Airport · 宮崎ブーゲンビリア空港 (KMI) serves both city-centre hotels to the north and beach hotels to the south. Choose the direction that matches your stay.

Current fares are JPY 340 to Miyako City and JPY 530 to Miyazaki Station. The operator-linked fare search confirms JPY 610 to Aoshima and JPY 500 to Tachibanadori 2- and 3-chome. For JR regular ticket prices to Aoshima, check the JR official search or airport station with your travel date selected.
From arrivals to trains, buses and taxis
- Follow your actual arrival terminal. After international immigration, baggage collection and customs, enter the 1F arrivals lobby in the same terminal. Domestic passengers also continue from 1F after baggage collection.
- JR: On 1F, follow ‘JR 乗り場’ towards the west side of the building. The official floor plan places JR by the domestic counters and buses by the international counters. Leave towards the station, buy or validate your ticket, then follow platform signs. The bus queue and 2F flight-departure area are separate.
- Bus: Follow ‘バス乗り場’ on 1F to the outdoor stops near the international counters. Stop 1 serves Miyako City, Tachibanadori and Miyazaki Station; stop 2 serves Aoshima on Nichinan/Obi-bound routes. Stop 3 is for highway buses and stop 4 for Seagaia.
- Taxi: Exit to ‘タクシー乗り場’ in front of the terminal on the first floor. The taxi stand is in a separate area from the JR station or bus number ②.
If your arrival location is different or you have large luggage or a wheelchair, ask at the 1F information counter for directions to the JR station and boarding area.
Bus payment and suitcase limits
Regular route buses do not have a seat reservation system. For cash, take a numbered ticket when you board and pay the fare when you get off. Place your transport IC card on the terminal when boarding and getting off. The fare box does not give change. The onboard change machine cannot accept JPY 5,000 or 10,000 notes or new JPY 500 coins. Prepare smaller cash or a topped-up IC card.
Free baggage standards are within 10kg in weight, 0.027㎥ in volume, and 1m in length. Exceeding this may result in a baggage fee equivalent to the child fare, and baggage exceeding 30kg, 0.25㎥, or 2m cannot be brought in. If it is crowded, even luggage within the specified size may be rejected. If your bags would obstruct the aisle, check the operator’s luggage rules and compare taxi vehicle sizes.

Boarding areas, stations, stops and hotel areas use the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan’s geographical base map. Dotted lines distinguish transport connections. These are lines that describe the direction of movement and are not actual road, rail, or pedestrian routes. The airport pick-up area and downtown hotel area are indicated as representative locations, and individual bays and hotel entrances can be checked using the official guide map and walking directions. The shrine pin points to the entrance area on the mainland side of Yayoi Bridge instead of the main shrine in the centre of the island.
JR trains and the limited-express fare exception
To get to Miyazaki Station, purchase a regular ticket from the airport station to Miyazaki or prepare a usable transport IC card, and then take a regular train bound for Miyazaki. Pass through Minamimiyazaki and get off at Miyazaki Station, and check the east and west exits where your accommodation is located.
The revised adult base fare is JPY 400, including the JPY 130 airport supplement. Do not add it again.
For travel wholly within Miyazaki–Tayoshi/Miyazaki Airport, ordinary-class non-reserved seats on limited express trains can be used with a base-fare ticket alone. Reserved seats, Green Car seats, and limited express trains that continue beyond Miyazaki are outside that exception. Check the non-reserved seat markings on the train and use only the seat class covered by your ticket. Aoshima is outside this special section, and the Sightseeing Limited Express Umisachiyamasachi also requires a separate reserved seat ticket.
JR transport IC card and luggage
Starting January 17, 2026, the SUGOCA Miyazaki area has been expanded to include Aoshima Station. You can use it to travel within the areas of Miyazaki, Airport, Tayoshi, and Aoshima. When continuing south of Aoshima or to other IC areas, check the ticket conditions rather than assuming that you can use the same card for the entire route.
JR permits up to two pieces of luggage, each within 250 cm total dimensions, 2 m length and 30 kg. Carry them yourself and keep aisles and doors clear. Regular buses have different limits.
Choose the stop nearest your Miyazaki hotel
Hotels near Miyazaki Station
The order is Arrival Hall → Airport Station → Miyazaki Station → Hotel Entrance. The JR ride takes about 10-15 minutes, but you'll need to add time to wait for the next train. If you first check whether your accommodation in front of the station is on the east or west side, you can avoid having to cross the station again with large luggage.
If it is a bus, use stop 1 and choose a bus bound for Miyazaki Station. Getting off at the station is different from arriving at the hotel lobby.
Hotels around Tachibanadori
For a hotel on Tachibanadori · 橘通り, take bus number ① from the airport → Tachibanadori 1, 2, or 3-chome, which is closest to your accommodation → Go to the hotel entrance. The fare to 2- and 3-chome is JPY 500, and the on-board journey time for express and regular buses is about 17 to 24 minutes. The express Airport Liner calls at the airport, Miyako City, Tachibanadori 1-, 2- and 3-chome, and Miyazaki Station. Regular buses have additional stops in the middle. Confirm the stop nearest your actual hotel address.
Taking JR to Miyazaki Station first adds a walk, city bus or taxi to Tachibanadori. An airport bus stop near your hotel may be easier with bags or in rain. The walking link below is an example; enter your actual hotel address.
West of Miyazaki Station → Tachibanadori 3-chome walking directions ↗Transfer between Miyako City and Minamimiyazaki Station
Miyako City is a bus terminal, and Minamimiyazaki Station is a JR station to the east. Get off the airport bus number ① and walk around the corner of the south building to the east JR station. JR station direction on the official guide map and use the crossings shown. The bus terminal and railway station are separate facilities.
Miyako City → Minamimiyazaki Station Walking Directions ↗Travelling directly to Aoshima, the beach and shrine
Aoshima · 青島 is south of the airport. If you don't plan on stopping downtown, look at options going directly south from the airport rather than going up to Miyazaki Station and back.
Regular bus No. ②: Airport → Get off at Aoshima
Arrival hall → Airport No. ② → Regular bus bound for ‘日南・飫肥’ → Aoshima stop → Accommodation, beach, shrine in this order. Adult one-way fare is 610 yen, the ride is approximately 24 minutes, and no prior seat reservations are required. The ANA Holiday Inn stop is in front of Aoshima, so if you are staying at this hotel, please check the drop-off point according to the hotel's official information.
In the timetable revised on 1 October 2026, daily airport departures are 10:09·11:39·13:59·18:06·19:19, with an additional weekday departure at 15:49. The 15:49 bus does not run on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.
The last bus at 19:19 is based on arrival at Aoshima at 19:43. Some services take different routes farther along the coast; confirm that your selected bus stops at Aoshima.
The JPY 700 summer shuttle operated from 1 July to 30 September. Its timetable is not the October regular-bus timetable. This guide uses the regular Nichinan-bound service.
JR regular trains: check Tayoshi transfer first
At Airport Station, check your destination as Aoshima, purchase a regular ticket or check the conditions for using the IC, and then move in the following order: Airport Station → Tayoshi Station → Aoshima Station. It takes about 2 minutes from the airport to Tayoshi, and about 19 to 23 minutes from Tayoshi to Aoshima. Transfer waiting time is separate.
Regular trains do not run directly from the airport to Aoshima.
After getting off at Tayoshi, instead of continuing on the train toward Miyazaki, transfer to the Aoshima stop train toward Aoshima, Aburatsu, Nango, and Shibushi. The stopping stations and platforms for each train are confirmed through the official detailed table and station information.
It is also possible to change routes at Minamimiyazaki with certain train connections, but the time and fare may vary as you head back north. You should not compare the same time and fare as Airport → Tayoshi → Aoshima.
The official timetable for the Sightseeing Express Umisachi Yamasachi · 海幸山幸 is listed as Airport 10:00 → Aoshima 10:21. This is not a regular transportation service that operates every day. All seats are reserved; book in advance.
Check the travel date operation calendar, airport departure direction, and fee on the reservation screen. No non-reserved seating exceptions apply.
Aoshima Station/Bus Stop → Beach/Shrine Entrance
Aoshima Station and Aoshima Bus Stop are different places. When you leave the station, follow shrine and beach signs east towards the shrine approach. If you get off at the Aoshima stop, use the pedestrian crosswalk to take the same shrine path.
Next, go to the land side entrance of Yayoi Bridge → cross the bridge to the island → Aoshima Shrine · 青島神社 entrance.
Official tourism guidance gives about 800 m or ten minutes from the JR station to the shrine. The map pin is at the mainland bridge entrance, not the island’s main shrine. Beyond the bridge, sandy ground can make luggage or wheelchair access harder.
Vehicles are not allowed on the island. Visiting hours are from 6:00 to sunset, so don't plan on arriving late at night.
For beach hotels, do not go to the shrine, but go to the hotel entrance on the beach. ANA Holiday Inn Resort Miyazaki officially provides separate hotel stops or access to Kodomonokuni Station. Check the check-in, reservation and transfer conditions of your accommodation, and do not think that you have arrived at all hotels just by ‘arriving at Aoshima’.
Last buses and trains, and late-arrival alternatives
These services run from the airport. The source guide compared the bus timetable revised on 1 October 2026 with JR timetables for 5, 10, 11 and 12 October. If Saturday is a public holiday, check the bus holiday conditions.
| Destination/Transportation | Last departure from the airport | Things to check when arriving and connecting |
|---|---|---|
| Bus No. 1 to Miyazaki Station | Weekdays 19:46 Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays 19:55 | Based on arrival at the station at 20:12 on weekdays and at 20:21 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. |
| Miyako City/Tachibana Dori Bus No. 1 | Daily 21:20, bound for Sumiyoshi | Miyako City 21:31, 1-chome 21:37, 2-chome 21:38, 3-chome 21:40. It does not stop at Miyazaki Station. |
| JR to Miyazaki Station | Daily 21:55 Airport Station | Regular 768M, arrives at Miyazaki Station 22:05 |
| Regular bus No. ② to Aoshima | Daily 19:19 | Arrive at Aoshima stop at 19:43; Separate walk to hotel |
| JR transfer to Aoshima | Daily 21:55 Airport Station | Arrival at Tayoshi 21:57 → Departure at 22:42 → Aoshima 23:01. 45-minute wait between trains. |
The 21:55 airport train reaches Aoshima at 23:01, after a 45-minute wait at Tayoshi. Add the final walk. Compare a direct taxi for a late arrival with bags, and contact your hotel about check-in before travelling.
Boarding the last train cannot be guaranteed based on the aircraft landing time alone. After completing immigration and baggage pickup, check the actual arrival time at the boarding point and the day's operation information. No policy promising that regular buses or JR trains wait for delayed flights was confirmed.
After public transport ends, use the official taxi rank
Show your hotel’s Japanese address at the official terminal taxi rank. Airport guidance lists taxi-staff hours of 08:30–21:30; this does not guarantee a vehicle afterwards. Ask airport information or an official taxi company about late availability in advance.
Miyako Taxi's February 2026 rate schedule is 600 yen for the first 1 km for regular vehicles, and 100 yen for every 285 meters thereafter. Low speed and waiting time also affect the rate. No fixed airport-to-city or airport-to-Aoshima total was confirmed. Check with the company about late-night conditions, reservation/call costs, whether toll roads are used, and which vehicle type and payment method is suitable for large luggage. The travel distances for city hotels and beach hotels are different, so the same estimates should not be applied.
There are conditions for reserved taxi transfers from confirmed hotels, such as being for hotel guests only and limiting the number of passengers. Please distinguish it from regular airport pickup, and if your flight is delayed, contact the hotel or pickup operator about changes and cancellation.
Changing flights does not automatically change hotel, train, or rental car reservations. If you have reserved a rental car, please check again on the reservation page for the company's actual pickup location, business office shuttle/final reception, driving qualification, insurance, and delay contact conditions.
If you cannot use the JR ticket you purchased due to a flight delay
An unused ordinary ticket can normally be changed once to the same ticket type within its validity without a change fee; pay or receive the fare difference. Refunding an unused ordinary ticket costs JPY 220. Check the ticket’s applicable conditions.
Changes to reserved seats must be requested before departure from the boarding station, and once the designated train departs, the reserved seat ticket becomes invalid and cannot be refunded. Discounted products and online reservations may be subject to separate seller and product conditions.
Do not confuse flight delays with the JR train's own cancellation/delay refund policy, and contact the station or reservation office before departure.
JR ticket changes, refunds and missed reserved trains ↗Check each operator separately during a typhoon or heavy rain
Weather alone does not confirm cancellations. Check your flight number with the airline/airport, JR service status and Miyazaki Kotsu’s bus notices. Follow local restrictions for the beach and bridge.
Tickets and booking information
The following is the operator’s official usage/purchase guide and is not an affiliate link. Regular JR tickets and route buses are different from sightseeing limited express reserved seats, reserved pickup, and rental car products.
For ordinary tickets, check your destination at the airport station and purchase them, and for buses, follow the cash and transport IC card boarding procedures above. For the sightseeing limited express, check the operation date, direction, seat designation, and change/cancellation conditions before making a reservation. Miyazaki Airport transport FAQ
How do I get from Miyazaki Airport to Miyazaki Station?
Follow JR signs from 1F arrivals to Airport Station and take a Miyazaki-bound train: JPY 400 one way for an adult, about 10–15 minutes on board. Alternatively, use the Miyazaki Station bus from stop 1: JPY 530 and about 25–30 minutes. The 21:20 Sumiyoshi-bound bus does not call at Miyazaki Station.
Is JR or the bus better for a Miyazaki city hotel?
Compare JR first for hotels beside Miyazaki Station. For Tachibanadori 1-, 2- or 3-chome, a bus from stop 1 can avoid walking back from the station. The adult fare to 2- and 3-chome is JPY 500. Check the final walk to your actual hotel entrance.
Can I travel directly from Miyazaki Airport to Aoshima?
A regular Nichinan/Obi-bound bus from stop 2 reaches Aoshima without a change: JPY 610, about 24 minutes on board, with a daily last airport departure at 19:19 in the checked timetable. JR local trains require a change at Tayoshi. The July–September shuttle is not an October service. Umisachi Yamasachi requires a separate operating-date check and reserved seat.
Does a limited express train from the airport cost extra?
For travel wholly within Miyazaki–Tayoshi/Miyazaki Airport, ordinary-class non-reserved limited express seats can be used with a base-fare ticket alone. Reserved seats, Green Car seats and journeys beyond this section have separate charges and conditions. The all-reserved Umisachi Yamasachi service to Aoshima is outside this exception.
Are Miyako City and Minamimiyazaki Station the same place?
No. Miyako City is a bus terminal; Minamimiyazaki is the separate JR station to its east. Follow the official map towards 南宮崎駅, walk around the south-side building and use crossings. Allow time for walking with bags and waiting for the train.
What are my options after a late arrival?
The last Miyazaki Station bus leaves at 19:46 on weekdays or 19:55 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The daily 21:20 Sumiyoshi bus serves Miyako City and Tachibanadori, but not Miyazaki Station. The last airport train is 21:55. For Aoshima, the last regular bus is 19:19; the checked late rail connection is airport 21:55 → Tayoshi 21:57, then Tayoshi 22:42 → Aoshima 23:01. Allow 45 minutes for that transfer wait and extra time for your hotel walk. Services do not guarantee a wait for delayed flights. If you cannot catch them, enquire about an official taxi and contact your hotel or pickup operator.
