The individual combined ticket for the western precinct, Daihozoin and eastern precinct is JPY 2,000 for adults, university and senior secondary students, JPY 1,700 for junior secondary students and JPY 1,000 for primary-school students. Payment is cash-only; groups of 30 or more have separate rates. Official fee revision: 1 March 2025.
Opening hours
Horyuji opens from 8 am to 5 pm from 22 February to 3 November and from 8 am to 4:30 pm from 4 November to 21 February. Admission ends 30 minutes earlier, at 4:30 pm or 4 pm respectively. Check separate dates and guidance for special openings.

How to get to Horyuji Temple
Take the Yamatoji Line from JR Nara to Horyuji. Leave through the north exit and walk about 20 minutes to the temple's south gate. Check the exit: this differs from the south-exit bus route. For a bus, check your date's operating times and fares separately.

Before you visit
Allow more time beyond the south gate
The walk from JR Horyuji's north exit to the south gate is about 20 minutes. After arrival, allow time to reach admission and explore the western precinct, Daihozoin and eastern precinct. Arrive with time to spare, as some facilities may be inaccessible near closing.
