Admission

The individual joint ticket for the Western Precinct, Great Treasure Gallery and Eastern Precinct costs JPY 2,000 for adults, university students and senior high school pupils; JPY 1,700 for junior high school pupils; and JPY 1,000 for primary school children. Payment is cash only. Groups of 30 or more have separate rates. The official fee revision date is 1 March 2025.

Horyuji opens from 08:00 to 17:00 from 22 February to 3 November and from 08:00 to 16:30 from 4 November to 21 February. Admission ends 30 minutes before closing, at 16:30 and 16:00 respectively. Check separate dates and information for special openings.

How to get to Horyuji

Take a JR Yamatoji Line train from Nara to Horyuji Station. From the north exit, walk about 20 minutes to the South Gate. This differs from the bus route from the south exit, so check your exit. If you plan to use the bus, check its times and fare for your date.

Before you visit

You still need time after reaching the South Gate

The South Gate is about 20 minutes on foot from JR Horyuji Station’s north exit. After arrival, allow time to reach the admission desk and explore the Western Precinct, Great Treasure Gallery and Eastern Precinct. Some facilities become inaccessible near closing, so arrive with time to spare.

Pay admission in cash

Bring cash for the joint ticket, which accepts cash only. Admission ends 30 minutes before the seasonal closing time.
